Are you getting ready for no spend 2016?

Following on from the previous thread (sorry I can't find it) I'm wondering if those who signed up are ready and raring to go?

No spend 2016 is coming soon!

I think I might hide Style & Beauty from 1st January, sure what's the point?! I plan to read lots of books and declutter toys and clothes instead of lurking on ASOS, House of Fraser, Mint Velvet et al.

Are you still up for it?

I'm thinking about joining this. I'm going to sell lots too - the time is right for me to reduce/declutter.

I don't have a huge amount of clothes to begin with (I've been doing "fewer but better" for a while now), but I can't bring myself to think that I need more.

Feels like a big step to say I will do a whole year as no-spend, so I may do it a season at a time.

Oh god. I should try this. Has anyone here done it before? How hard would it be? What tips are there such as hiding S&B?

I'm not able to do a no-spend year but I admire anyone who will. Will join the decluttering, and am going to limit my online browsing time and increase my book reading time. I am also continuing to use up my cosmetics stash - I might run out of hair products sometime in 2016, makeup will take at least five years...

From past experience, blocking blogs and online shops from the browser and unsubscribing all emails that come with links and codes does help.

I think I posted on another thread my efforts to declutter and reduce spending to date.
I won't be no spend but will be very low spend in 2016.
2016 goals for me are experiences over possessions.

Hm. I have a good handle on decluttering. All my things of all seasons fit into a wardrobe and half of a dresser. I mastered this a couple of years ago and won't turn back. But I know that anything I buy right now is frivolous and not a wardrobe necessity. .. Hm, is that a rule? That I'd only buy necessities? S**t. I wouldn't even need basics I don't think. This could be really hard but I and my bank account would really benefit.

I did a few 'no spend months' and the difference meant I cleared my credit card bill and felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders!

I won't deny myself the basics (knickers when necessary, socks replaced when current ones have holes in them, a bra if the underwire comes through) but I hope to knock an awful habit I've developed on the head. My DH works away a lot so I surf online at night when alone and make impulse purchases without really thinking things through. I have more than enough to keep me going for 2016.

OrlaKiely you sound as if you could easily do it too!

I'd like to give this a go. Bit concerned though that as I'm pg now I won't be able to fit back into my old stuff... I'd also need to buy some nursing clothes potentially when the time comes.

Yes I'm in, I have so many clothes and shoes, I need to declutter and make the most of the lovely clothes I already have instead of keep buying more!

I'm actually half scared and half looking forward to it, I shop online a lot, not huge amounts of money but regular feel good shopping. Will be interesting to see how I cope.
Hand in hand with this I also plan to give up drinking, I'm sure that will help curb the impulsive online purchases!

I am in absolute awe of anyone planning to do this. Just thinking about it makes me feel very scared which is a sure sign that I would benefit from doing it .

Yes, I'm doing the no spend 2016. In fact I am going to aim for my own "Project 50". No personal spends until I am 50. Three and a half years. This is to counteract years of spending far too much, and to put me in a good place financially.
I have a carefully considered list of things I can buy when utterly needed e.g tights, socks, exercise clothes, work suits, black and navy shoes and boots, make up and skincare . But these are only as replacements to things that are done and are essential to ensure that I don't look like a tramp at work.
So no unnecessary clothes, books, skin care, toiletries, perfume, jewellery and other accessories. I have a kindle with loads of unread books in a queue, then I'll use the library after that.
Feel excited and upbeat about the challenge. Plan to enjoy the nice things I do have and get my money's worth out of them.

I should be with you!!! My wardrobe's are bursting. And is my make-up drawer. I want to do six months as by then I'd like to be slimmer and then !my 14/16 summer kit will be too big. !y plan is no haircut until February 12th as well, that will be 4 months. Can I join??

I'm on maternity leave and money is tight, so I have a good motivator.
Just worried about what will happen if my favourite boots give up, or if the shops get some fab autumn colours that I'll want to stock up on...

I've convinced a real life friend to do it with me so yes I am in.

I think I should! My statutory maternity pay runs out at the end of January, so really need to cut back. Have done a proper wardrobe clear out so just left with things I can actually wear. Whether I can avoid the January sales is a challenge, most shopping done online - it's too easy and I seem particularly vulnerable to a quick fix when I'm tired/doing night waking.

ive got to grip on my spending on clothes so deleted all clothes apps on my phone & deleted my "favourites" websites off my work computer! any other tips greatly appreciated!! x

I'd like to join in but can't start until after my birthday in January... (where I traditionally chose something in the sales for it)

I'm going to go through what I have and get what I need essential wise ie cleanser and shampoo, in the sales and then give it a go!

It's very encouraging seeing people on here wanting to do this. Magicalrealism, I'm in awe and will be thrilled to see how you get on. I also like some of the planning that's already gone into this here. I had only been thinking about clothes and shoes and think I'll stick to that for now as I don't go silly buying products (anymore). Maybe you're right, I have managed the occasional no spend month Martin. Maybe this is doable!

I'm going to have a go ...it won't be a total no spend as being very tall, if I find trousers that fit, I'll buy them!
And my summer wardrobe I culled totally in September.
I am not keeping clothes for best...Pointless. I've thrown out any scruffy " house" clothes...decided I can be comfy without being a shapeless mess.

I'm going to do this - I shop online a lot, an awful lot. I know many of the staff in the local shopping centre from returning online purchases (which I'm very embarrassed about as I return 50% of what I buy which can be a big bother). I can't afford to carry on this way and thirdly I need to lose weight and I don't want to buy clothes to fit my current shape (less) body. I have three good reasons to stop buying and I am scared of doing this but determined to do it.
