Generally are trainers cheaper in NYC?

EachandEveryone · 28/09/2015 21:41

Because I need some decent footwear but I'm conscious of how much trainers are these days. I don't go to the gym but I walk a lot and in NYC I am planning on walking everywhere but I still need to look alright to go into a bar after all that walking. Should I wait until I get there or should I potentially pay more money but buy them now and start breaking them in?

chipsandguac sorry, have just seen your reply about the coat and potential snowy halloweeen.

The kids are besides themselves with excitement at the prospect of snow. DH thinks its never going to happen and I am having a style confidence crisis (I am neither stylish nor confident) and have no fucking idea what to pack for us all without taking 57 cases.

but thanks for taking the time to reply! Grin

Want2b,
Yes. It is that place. Its's fun. We had one of the hot dogs with our drinks. 3 cocktails each. Lovely stuff! Blush

3 cocktails each. Bloody hell that's expensive. We only go there when we can expense it!

So that. There are loads of bars around NYU that are much much cheaper with excellent drinks.

Any tips? We do love a good cocktail but I agree NYC is expensive tho £10 a drink is not too different to some bars in the UK

Yes, where are the cheap bars and can a 16yo go in one and drink a soda?

Is that Please Don't Tell? I was just reading this thread and thought that sounded cool. And then looked at the website and realised I'd already been. I just don't have the clearest memory of that night! Blush

It's tough with a 16 year old as they are not allowed at the bar. If you are sat at a table you can get away with it as its NyC and people are reasonable. Small independent bars are likely not to risk it though so be prepared.

I always seem to find cheaper spots for a drink because I'm normally drinking in and around Hell's Kitchen or Murray hill. Down by NYU is also a good spot. The Irish bars often don't have good cocktails. Best cheapest are Mexican places.

I do think brunch is awesome. Cowgirl is one of my favs for the drinks.

Second Hell's Kitchen. We eat and drink there a lot as it's got a huge selection of really good bars and restaurants and they tend to be more affordable and low key than some of the smarter parts of town. Plus, it has a more real NYC feel about them. In my head anyway!

Just looked at Cowgirl - so I could get a drink whilst we eat in there?

We are staying in Hells Kitchen! Can you recommend any bars/restaurants that I could take my 16yo DD?

Yes you can drink at cowgirl with your 16 year old sitting next to you!

There are so many places in Hell's Kitchen. Trying to think of some and my mind goes blank!

Thanks!

Just been googling and see there's Justin Timberlake's bbq restaurant - Southern Hospitality. Feel like I've gained 10lbs just reading the menuGrin

So I'm off on Thursday. Taking 2 year old DD so no drinking for me though!

I've found what looks like an awesome bag from a brand called Dagne Dover. They don't ship internationally but one shop in NY carries their bags. So I'm going to have a look in there.

Just in case anyone else is looking for a tote style bag!

Not sure what the price point is but its worth checking out Suarez for bags. They are not cheap but they are excellent value for money. I've had mine for over 10 years and it looks amazing. I compared it to my mothers Hermes bag and the quality is very similiar. A nice tote there is about $600. Location is 5 west 56th St.

$600 is a bit above my budget! The Dagne Dover ones are about $300.

Kate spade is often cheaper in century 21. Go downtown to their store by the WTC or the TJ Maxx on Wall Street.

Is it the original stuff or made for the outlets?

Oh no. Does the 2 year old need to be seen? There is a really good clinic near my office plus our paediatrician group are open basically 24/7. We are we TriBeCa paediatrics which is a good place to start. The clinic near my office is one medical group. My kids love the peadialyte sachets. Are you on your own or can you step out to pick some up. No joke those thing cure 99% of tummy bugs so quickly.
