Generally are trainers cheaper in NYC?

Because I need some decent footwear but I'm conscious of how much trainers are these days. I don't go to the gym but I walk a lot and in NYC I am planning on walking everywhere but I still need to look alright to go into a bar after all that walking. Should I wait until I get there or should I potentially pay more money but buy them now and start breaking them in?

Go on lifebooker. It's amazing. If I didn't have kids I would be getting so much more done through that but I end up not having time at weekends. My client right now is not in Manhattan.

Well I've bought New Balance trainers I've just got to get my head around wearing them with tights!

E&E, I wear them with black trainer socks too - I don't like the feeling of tights in trainers!

Sooooooo excited!

EachandEveryone · 13/10/2015 23:13

When do you go??

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 14/10/2015 06:36

Going right now. Will report back! Grin

bigTillyMint · 14/10/2015 07:38

Oooh spub, so excited for you! Can you do us updates if you get wifi while you're there?

spub · 14/10/2015 09:16

My cousin is there now and it's boiling in the day but freezing in a night. What on earth to pack. I go a week Monday!

I need you to go to Inglot Cosmetics for me next to Hershey's and tell me if it's as fab as my cousin says. She's a make up artist do knows her stuff.

ChipsandGuac · 14/10/2015 11:43

I wouldn't say it's boiling! It's in the 60's during the day here at the mo and cooling off week by week. I'm happily wearing jeans again after the heat of the summer.

bigTillyMint · 14/10/2015 12:02

spub, no, just everything! Well top tips/buys/places to go would be great if you canSmile

E&E, that's a useful bit of info re the temps. Must make sure I have some thermals with me/buy a puffa as soon as I arrive there!

Want2bSupermum · 14/10/2015 13:41

I guess compared to the UK it's warm?!? We are reaching 'feels like' highs of 72f according to Mike Woods on fox 5 (super awesome weatherman here in the Ny area). It is actually mid to upper 60s but there has been some humidity.

bigTillyMint · 14/10/2015 14:10

It was late teens/20 here in London at the weekend, but feels freezing today at 12 - no idea what that is in old money!

EachandEveryone · 14/10/2015 15:39

Oh it's bloody freezing in London. I haven't got dressed yet! I am on nights

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 14/10/2015 18:56

E&E, on nights? You have my greatest admiration. After suffering terrible jetlag on/back from our NZ trip, I have no idea how anyone copes with working nights!

spub · 14/10/2015 22:27

Each, I am layering for Great Britain! Will do my best to fulfil my mission :)
Just arrived. Its's sunny and warm but will be colder later. I love New York Smile
Off for dinner and cocktails shortly ( waves)

EachandEveryone · 14/10/2015 23:21

Oh two weeks today I'll be in The Boathouse!

spub, cocktailsEnvy

EachandEveryone · 15/10/2015 10:08

My cousin spent over a grand yesterday and said it wasn't really any cheaper than the UK! I wouldn't bother myself.

Went to DBGB kitchen at 299 Bowery for dinner. Prix fixee menu for $38. For 2 plus drinks about $120. Then went to PDT for cocktails. U have to reserve seats from 3pm on the day of your visit and you enter through the back of a phone box.
I needed my long merino wrap/cardie but it's not cold at nite per se. Given this is more about NYC than style HmmI'll probably post from now on the thread I started in long haul travel. Seems more sensible! Hope this helps

EachandEveryone · 15/10/2015 14:17

Well it's abit of both as it started out about trainers and bargains and I received my trainers today. New Balance they really pull on my legs when I'm walking like Fit Flops do. I think that's a good sign!

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 15/10/2015 16:20

spub, entering through the back of a phone box sounds cool!
I will search out the other thread.

E&E, I know it's a bit disappointing that it's not really cheaper. Just different choices I guess. DD and I will still be shopping for stuff.

Want2bSupermum · 15/10/2015 18:49

Oh is that the hotdog place with a bar through the phone box? Drinks are alright there if that's the place.

LeopardIsTheNewBlack · 15/10/2015 21:45

Regarding the Macy's coupons- if you go on their own website they almost always have printable coupons. Some of the stores here (Old Navy springs to mind) have survey invitations printed on the bottom of their receipts. If you complete the survey online or on the phone you get a discount code for future purchases. So I go and buy a $1 item, do the survey then go back another day with my discount code and get my shopping done.
I also like Lifebooker but find you have to be really careful, it can be a bit hit or miss.
