This is a TAAT, in case you were wondering! I saw the 'Phase 8 - frumpy or not?' thread and realised that I like quite a lot of stuff in there Blush

I'm 33, 5'5 and a size 18 (hoping to drop a bit soon though). Big mum tum and bum, arms and legs on the larger side. I do have curves though.

Please steer me right Mumsnetters!

Hurray! I hope you have a wonderful time, and treat yourself. And please hear your internalised MN voice telling your internalised DM voice to pipe the hell down.

I'm glad this thread has turned supportive and helpful :)

Tips for not looking frumpy:
believe that it's OK to want to look nice
believe that you deserve to look and feel nice
believe that you can look nice

That's so great, LaContessa! I hope you have a lovely time.

And - please don't hate your body. It's done everything it can for you, and it'll be with you forever. I try to look on mine, at least the bits I can't "like", as a reliable and devoted beast of burden who carries me around :) That way I can be genuinely fond of my body even if I don't always "love" the way it looks.

Yeah for you! I agree ignore sizes - try up and down to get the best fit. I've got 8s to 14s in my wardrobe depending on brand and even cut. Go outside your comfort zone but be very clear on your lifestyle and what works for you.
And please please post an update.

Come back and update after Grin

LaContessaDiPlump · 19/09/2015 18:10

Right. My appointment was at 2pm today and DH says that I was obviously quite nervous as I left. I got there and we went around the clothing sections, ruling out some and taking note of others. I then tried on various things while she went back and forth finding other items I might like.

It was really weird at first and I didn't like it. I was on the verge of tears quite a few times because of the overriding feeling that I was hopeless and a failure at this sort of thing. But then I tried on a few things which I thought suited me, and she agreed so I felt happy with that assessment Grin and things improved from there. I left smiling with 3 new dresses and a pair of shoes. And a poncho Blush I've never owned a poncho in my life but have been seduced by this one!

So overall, a positive experience. I got some useful guidance for future purchases and a confidence boost. Thank you all for giving me a push Flowers

Oh that sounds fab! I have been reduced to tears in many changing rooms Wink
I guess it's given you some confidence for future? As in you know now what you might prefer and what suits you
