Ahhhhh, the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness...if for you that means the joy of cosy jumpers, retrieving your favourite coats and jackets from the back of the wardrobe and an excuse to buy new boots then this is the place for you Smile. Come chat about clothes, make up and accessories, budgets from Primark to Prada. Lurkers, newbies and old hands all welcome.

She was in her shop however, so should have grabbed some clothes.

LinusLovesBretons · 27/09/2015 21:47

Very similar to the VB shoes for shop

Larastheme · 27/09/2015 21:47

Shock, I missed the wee thing! But wasn't it at her shop? Couldn't she change into something? And sorry that jacket is just awful, shoes are nice,

I admire people wearing fitted blazers,, but I look tragic in them,

Drywhitethanks · 27/09/2015 21:47

Actually really like that sequinned jacket. Wonder if we can find a cheaper version?
Surely she didn't wee herself?Shock
"What's the point?" Marsha that's classicGrin
Love stacking bracelets shop and an interest in fashion and makeup is fun, just a way of making the most of what you've got. Such a shame you couldn't share that with your mother. Love talking make up and clothes with DD

LinusLovesBretons · 27/09/2015 21:48

Night night

KittyHello · 27/09/2015 21:50

shame it's maternity

I'm not sure about VB, her image is so controlled I can't imagine she'd leave a party looking like she'd weed herself. Although for a drink to spill in that area.........

Drywhitethanks · 27/09/2015 21:51

Might copy VB tomorrow with my silver pointy flats then red loopy to go to meeting with rugby coach, flirt Wink

Drywhitethanks · 27/09/2015 21:51

"Lippy"!!!!Grin

FedupNagging · 27/09/2015 21:53

Marsha that's what made me think that - she had access to clothes or could have snuck out the back or am I being too naive?!

shopafrolic · 27/09/2015 21:56

Night Linus
Love the monkey bars - wish iPhone emoticons worked here. Good monkey on there.
Chlobo

shopafrolic · 27/09/2015 21:58

Love those shoes Linus

VivaVegas · 27/09/2015 22:18

The jeans are straight so might take them along to the shop to see what they say.
Need some black heels for going out, to wear with either black skinnier or LBD, two options currently on the table:
Temperley

Larastheme · 27/09/2015 22:19

Bad ,bad shop Grin, I can't do these either, just watch and one bracelet,

I like biker jackets, wore one today, with Bruno shirt, and frame black jeans, and marant trainers, I really love these trainers,

shop I never shared fashion topics with my mum either, we have very different styles, and her whole approach to clothes and shopping is very old world bourgeoise,I used to accompany her shopping, as a child but I never enjoyed it, but i preferred it that way too , made me do my own thing didn't have any influences, incidentally I got my love for interior design from my father,he used to buy loads of interior mags and books and we used to sit together and just talk about everything related to architecture house design, he was really good at it, he pushed me to study it,

VivaVegas · 27/09/2015 22:20

Or these Mint Velvet
With LBD is for next month so thinking with opaques but not sure if the Mint Velvet ones would look OK.
Any opinions?

shopafrolic · 27/09/2015 22:22

There's a navy coatigan type thing on the Outnet by Iris & Ink. Can't link on phone.

shopafrolic · 27/09/2015 22:27

Interesting Lara. My mother tells stories of sitting in church with my grandmother and looking at how well (or not) ladies had seen their zips into their dresses in the pews in front. Back when more people made their own clothes. She has a very critical eye. Remember her slating me at my wedding dress fitting? It was always about cut, how things fitted across the shoulders etc. All valid but didn't leave much room for experimentation. In fact the criticism I mentioned up thread came about while I was ripping up t-shirts to make halter neck tops and distressing my jeans Smile Funny to think what if.... Back then I clearly liked playing around with shapes and clothes. I vividly remember the day I decided to cut all my hair off, sitting in front of the mirror folding my hair up to see how it would look. I used to play with make up a lot more too. The Sali Hughes book has reminded me of that.

AmberNectarine · 27/09/2015 22:28

In fairness to VB, I recently managed to spill a drink in that area and looked exactly like I'd pissed myself. Luckily I was at the cinema so I got away with it!

maradesbois · 27/09/2015 23:13

Evening,

Wow, thread is busy, love it. Haven't been following, justback from gorgeous weekend on the coast with friends; beautiful scenery, lots of walking, pub lunches, no phone signal, perfect. My first thought is what is VB doing at the UN, sorting out the Syrian conflict? Nice outfit (very Dry) but it takes more than a pair of flats to be a diplomat.

Shop know what you mean about following your head instead of heart. My course am doing now is the pathway I probably should have followed years ago after my first degree but better late than never. Think about your options.

Looks I'd like to do but can't: messy hair. Just look a proper mess instead of French girl artfully mussed and need a bit of shiny bouncy Middletonness to look normal. Also makeup, no good at it so hardly bother but probably should.

Off to bed, tired from all the fresh air. Bought a dress on Friday from little local boutique, will link tomorrow. Night all x

LinusLovesBretons · 28/09/2015 06:55

Morning!

I had such weird dreams last night. One was of me telling Silvester Stallone off for letting his huge dog growl and snap at me. He was very upset with me but kept on making pasta shapes whilst I was talking to him Hmm

And another I can remember was me smoking a cigarette and then discovering my new A.P.C. Jumper was full of burnholes. Shock

There were many more dreams but these are the ones I remember.

shop my DM's taste is very different than mine (over the years she has mellowed a bit and I have become less conservative) so shopping with her was not a pleasurable experience. The arguments we used to have in the shops! And she held the purse strings so I had to go along with it.

I was never really into fashion until I was a lot older, maybe as a rebellion towards my DM. I was quite bookish and she wanted me to be more girly and frivolous.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 28/09/2015 07:43

I really struggle to do 'grown up' style. Usually I look like a bag lady, all clashing prints, colours and textures. My hair misbehaves as well, it's never sleek and shiny, it's always a bit fuzzy and out of control. My sister despairs of what I wear, she's very different to me, she's all about things matching, she does very little in terms of prints and her colour choices are limited, well much more limited than mine. she likes all her colours to match or at least tone whereas i'll just throw things together and go with whatever sticks. I suppose it's very dramatic in it's own way, just not the glamorous side of dramatic

shopafrolic · 28/09/2015 07:57

Morning all. Love those dreams Linus- can't remember mine today Smile You saying how your mum held the purse strings made me smile. We did a big shop twice a year for AW and SS. Anything else I wanted I had to earn the money for (this is from age 15 onwards).
Mara YY to Middletoness! Perfect description - your hair is always fabulous. Love that you have the opportunity to study what you love now.
Sun is shining and my head is feeing clearer at least so hopefully with DS at school this week again I'll be improving even more.

QueenCardi · 28/09/2015 08:17

Great chat last night ladies. I purposely stayed away as I wanted an early night. Will catch up properly after school run/circuits

libertydoddle · 28/09/2015 08:46

Morning all. Was at rugby yesterday so missed the chat. Atmosphere at Wembley was amazing. Was like an Irish home game with about 20000 more people.

Back to work today. Nice to have the sun out.

shop in the book 'raising girls' Steve B (?) Talks about age 11 to 14 or so being a key point where girls find their passion in life and the importance of parents helping to nurture that. But you can nurture it in yourself now. It's never too late.

Quick dash to Peter Jones for a better case. My colleague is travelling with two small bags!

BerniceBobsHerHairAgain · 28/09/2015 09:51

Lots of chat last night, good to catch up with this morning. Mara I like your observation "it takes more than a pair of flats to be a diplomat" Smile

How was your holiday Lib?

It's interesting to hear about relationships with shopping and mums. My mum was not that into shopping and clothes when I was a teen, I did like it but I have always preferred to be a solitary shopper.

kitty whispers I think Boden may have done a sparkly blazer last year. Not sure if it is still available.

Glad you are enjoying your IM trainers Lara - I am quite tempted by these stan smith which I think are a bit similar to yours.

I bought the Sunday Times yesterday (well got it free with my waitrose shop - spot the middle class cliche Grin) and it was the men's style Hmm I hate it when that happens.

I love Margaret Howell style stuff but it doesn't suit me to be as pared back as that, I think it makes me look quite dowdy. Also 'artfully undone' tends to look like 'scruffbag' on me.

Viva I really like the Somerset AT shoes - not sure they would work with opaques though as the detail would be lost. They are gorgeous though and get my vote.
