Anyone discovered any great fashion blogs recently?

There seem to be so many fashion blogs now but I haven't found any recently that make me thing wow, great blog I can get inspiration from.

Love Pinterest but like blogs for links/instant info on where items are from. Gone off WIT now constantly pushing her wardrobe icons site and J Crew, school gate/run etc not my thing at all, Find DMBL40 patronising. A few I used to like stopped posting often and I lost interest.

Am 34, 2 DC and still like to make an effort, like to mix high street and odd higher end items.

Any ideas? Smile

StillFrankie that's interesting feedback, Lou here btw Smile

I've always thought I dressed in a fairly age appropriate manner (I turned 33 on Saturday FWIW) - might have to reassess!

MeAndTheMajor · 01/09/2015 14:37

Yes - Fashion Me Now's travel posts are amazing. Alas, I also have no call for her beach wardrobe...

The thing about style blogs is that it's all so subjective. I'm the same age as you princessdave and although I've only just had a quick look at your blog and I think we have quite different styles, I disagree with the poster above - I definitely wouldn't say that the clothes were for a younger age group than us.

Annarose2014 · 01/09/2015 14:59

Buynowbloglater for the win, as the young uns would say. She's not sponsored and she gets genuinely excited about stuff. She lives in Dubai so all the photos are sunny which is a nice change.

Her style is a bit boring/corporate but she has a "proper" job so I don't mind. She wears shitloads of Zara.

At least she looks normal. I just can't be dealing with people who claim to wear terrifyingly matte scarlet lipstick, £250 shades and a boiler suit going to the supermarket. NO YOU DON'T!

Annarose2014 · 01/09/2015 15:03

I still look at DMBL40 most days. Yes, its only lists, yes her twisted pose makes my back hurt, yes I don't understand how her life is endless cinema trips and glam dinner dates with a vast circle of friends.....but sometimes you come across something you like that you'd have overlooked.

Also I strongly suspect from reading between the lines that her Asperger son is a LOT more challenging than she lets on. The other day she mentioned how they were trying to tackle his anger issues. So maybe her life ain't as rosy as it looks from the outside.

GeorginaWorsley · 01/09/2015 15:41

I suspected that myself Anna
I think DMBL 40 seems lovely but I hate ripped jeans and oversized sunglasses.
That plus slogan sweatshirts is so not my style at all.
She probably dresses a bit too young for my liking, but then I would probably seem a dowdy old granny to her so each yo their own Grin

MrsCampbellBlack · 01/09/2015 15:47

I like Kat but think she needs to be careful about how much she discloses about her son and relationship with her mother on twitter. Some of the stuff - well not sure she'd want her mum to see what she's saying about her.

GeorginaWorsley · 01/09/2015 15:51

I agree Mrs cb
She is very open and exposes her life .

AimlesslyPurposeful · 01/09/2015 16:05

I rather enjoy DMBL40.

She and I have very different figures (Size 12 hourglass here so the sack dresses are out) but I like scrolling through the photos of alternative items she lists and we have a similar taste in coats - Not that awful check one from Zara though. But mostly I appreciate her posting daily, or very nearly.

Love My Midlife Fashion. Her looks are quite corporate so not terribly relevant to me (SAHP with five dogs leaving me covered in drool and fur) but her posts are very readable. It's almost like reading a newsy email from an old friend. Like the photos of her home and of village life too.

Suzy So So is great! Wish she'd post a little more though.

If you like Make Up then the American blogger Maskara might be worth a look. Her make overs on 40+ women are lovely.

GeorginaWorsley · 01/09/2015 16:07

I like the frequency of DMBL40 s posts too.

AimlesslyPurposeful · 01/09/2015 16:39

Oh, I'm a wally.

I meant My Midlife Chic and not My Midlife Fashion!

I do look at My Midlife Fashion too but she has such a lovely figure that generally her posts make me feel like a squat little frump.

princessdave Hi Lou, I'm slightly older than you and whilst I do love the clothes, I feel they are more twenties tbh.

I do think you need to use better lighting too and the images are a bit blurred/squinty/strange angles so maybe that's affecting my judgement.

My husbands a photographer - he's got me viewing everything in terms of lighting and positioning Grin

BlahBlahUsername · 01/09/2015 17:52

I'm over bloggers now, and vloggers.

A) It seems like they are catering to an ever younger audience. (I used to follow a woman in her twenties on YT who acted like a woman in her twenties. She has now turned into a hyper kids tv presenter and starts every vlog trilling 'HIIIIII GUUUUUYS!!!' while doing a manic double hand wave...)

And B) There is so much sponsorship it's hard to know what is genuinely liked, and what they've been paid to pretend to like. Everyone can work up a look of love for something they got for free. I used to love blogs and fashion YouTubers because they were the antithesis to fashion magazines. Now they are even worse.

princessdave · 01/09/2015 18:27

Thanks Frankie! It's just a hobby around the kids, office job & running so I know the pictures aren't great but have no time to rectify it.

The twenties thing is a surprise though because 99% off my clothes are Boden! They of the frump & mumsy.... Wink

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/09/2015 19:58

Susie So So seems lovely, but she does only ever seem to wear two things - jeans and a sweatshirt or jeans and a white boho blouse.

Blah - Yes exactly re sponsorship. WIT bangs on about M&S a lot, but clearly doesn't actually shop there.

Tough - totally agree. Am not interested in people's lives, kids etc. I just want to see some nice pictures of outfits!

Looking at more of these links, I think the ones that have outfits pictured out and about, not in a bedroom, generally work a bit better in terms of what the blog looks like and how it comes across, regardless of the clothes.

squeakybumtime · 02/09/2015 12:04

Mission;Style UK is a good blog if you're looking for workwear inspiration. She's recently returned to work after a sabbatical, and is posting a lot of her outfits on Instagram.

I dislike the advertorial type blogs, I don't mind the odd sponsored post once in a while, after all if you're putting in the effort to write a blog I don't see why you shouldn't get some benefit from it, but every other day just becomes tedious. My Fashionable Forties is a good one for casual style who doesn't seem to take on the sponsored stuff. She's also recently gone on a bit of a drive to make more of what she actually owns and buy less new stuff.

Best Friend Style is an over 50 blogger. She doesn't post that often but is very active on Instagram, and I Won't Wear Sludge Brown is more of a classic style if you don't like the ripped jeans stuff.

I should probably spend less time reading blogs Grin, but I like them for inspiration. I don't mind the chatty family/outside life stuff either. I like my bloggers to have a bit personality!

StillFrankie · 02/09/2015 13:02

Ah...I don't shop at Boden, too expensive :(

Hopefully · 02/09/2015 18:30

Another fan of Unfancy. She needs to come back to blogging!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/09/2015 18:41

Ooh I like lots on, 'My Fashionable Forties'. :)

verenti · 02/09/2015 18:49

I think every blogger going has been given one of those raffia bags from The Jacksons!

FiftyShadesOfSporn · 03/09/2015 08:58

I think WIT is pregnant

verenti · 03/09/2015 09:07

^^I agree!

Annarose2014 · 03/09/2015 11:19

Oh yes those raffia bags that order you to "SMILE" ! Grin

The more I see them the less I like them. "No I don't feel like smiling right now thanks, so you can fuck off, Stupid Raffia Bag!"

princessdave just had a look at your blog whatlouwore365.blogspot.co.uk/ and I think that you dress age appropriate (if there is any such thing really these days) and enjoyed having a browse. It takes guts to put pictures of yourself up online so please don't take too much notice of any inappropriate comments or those you just don't agree with. Enjoy your blog!
