BD, have you got the Yplan app? It's a listing app that gives you last minute reduced prices /free for London events and entrance fees.( family fun too) I can recommend some of the free walking tours . I know not relevant for ds , but I did a Soho in the 50s tour for nothing , and it was brilliant. They do a whole range of tours I think.
There's an African drumming workshop on it atm for a tenner at SOAS Grin

herbaceous · 18/08/2015 09:35

Ah, Rudy. In that kind of lunch scenario I would advocate leaving the actual shopping centre and going into the 'street' - there's a Wahaca, Real Greek, Jamies, etc etc. And a Shake Shack (the launch I attended with DS) which does delicious burgers and the like.

BD - other ideas, depending on what he's into -

Wellcome Collection (medical stuff),

John Soane museum (curiosities),

Geffrey Museum (homes and interiors) ,

Ragged Museum (poor people in days of yore),

Trinity Wharf (parkour training) followed by Emirates cable car to the O2 Arena,

Museum of London (generally interesting history),

Museum of London in Docklands (general history but including boats, and with added bonus of a trip 'driving' the DLR )

Etc!

cremolafoam · 18/08/2015 09:44

Oh Herbs I want to do all of those things.GrinGrin
Is not the Soane museum where the Hogarths are in the wall cupboards? ( distant memory of uni research trip)

Rosebag · 18/08/2015 09:45

That App sounds brilliant crem !

I am meeting friends for breakfast this morning. DH is on work calls Angry so might not make it. I said DC can't come....DD is annoyed. What do you do to shake them off? Whenever we've got to get somewhere together they don't want to go. Now that they're not invited....what a fuss.

Anyway...I don't care. Off to Chichester later to see Mack and Mable. I gather its first class.

Hope other Crepeys who are away are enjoying themselves. Xx

Blackduck · 18/08/2015 10:04

Thanks - done a fair number of those but a good reminder. Soane museum is fab - grave to poor Fanny Grin

Pitt (I think?!) Museum at UCL is good too - Egyptology....

Liking the sound of the drumming workshop!

bigTillyMint · 18/08/2015 10:20

Why have I never heard of that app? I love the sound of the Soho in the 50s walk.

Herbs's suggestions are good too.

magimedi · 18/08/2015 10:34

Can I put in a heads up for the National Portrait Gallery, just behind the National Gallery.

Amazing to see what all those people you've read/read about, listened to etc actually look like.

wordassociationfootball · 18/08/2015 10:47

Yes, Soho in the 50s sounds brill. YY to the Wellcome and Museum of London. Also Hunterian - the museum of the Royal College of Surgeons. Gory but excellent. Much of interest on WW1 plastic surgery innovations.
The Yplan sounds superb, Crem. Drumming, as Stropps knows is an interest.

I really chuckled about what your DM said following the MU Rudy and I think it's brilliant that you shared it. It's the fact that we share things like that that really shows the trust between us.

I don't think I tend to post my worst experiences or behaviour but the fact that I don't worry that I'd become 'unacceptable' to you all if you knew, is incredibly helpful in terms of keeping on an even keel.

By the way hello Monty and Magimedi, we've never 'talked' directly but it's good getting to know you. How are the lashes Monty?

STYLE AND BEAUTY QUOTA MAKEWEIGHT KLAXON!!!

TK Maxx success:
A gorgeous pair of Ralph Lauren jeans, don't you know.
An Ossie Clark dress, it's not on the site or I'd link. Love, love, love it. Will wear it at writing festival dinner thing I'm going to in York in a couple of weeks.
A t-shirt.

65 quid.

motherinferior · 18/08/2015 10:48

I must get that app too!

Rudy, at least Westfield won't be full of DD1 and her mates.Grin

I am busy -doing bog-all catching up on reading the cheap offers I've been downloading. I did get up early and write while the sun rose, though.

motherinferior · 18/08/2015 10:49

V impressed by writing festival. I'm such a lightweight. Metaphorically speaking.

I would love that Rudy, thank you. I know I have you and Beachy and Herbs and BTM.

wordassociationfootball · 18/08/2015 12:24

You aren't a lightweight MI, it's just tiiiiiiiiime. This time last year I would not have been ready to pitch myself/wares. This year, I am. Simples.

wordassociationfootball · 18/08/2015 12:28

Having said which, wtf am I doing on here? I am meant to be polishing/revising chapters 4 to 42 for The Agent Who Is Interested. I am on chapter 17 and have been all morning. Please dust off Herbs' essay cattle prod and give me a sharp one unless I'm back saying anything other than 'Just finished C19!'.... or even 17 would be acceptable.

QueenQueenie · 18/08/2015 12:30

WAF, before you go... I think you've found me on FB - a little black pug puppy...

OP posts:
lalsy · 18/08/2015 13:06

Thirding SJ Soane (tho check opening) and Hunterian (if you like gruesome, dd loved it recently), and they are separated by park with rather nice cafe. Wellcome is bloody amazing, and they have now opened a Reading Room with sofas, games, and exciting Stuff; it and the library are inspirational places to go and work, btw, for any WAH fed-up crepeys. You look up and see the most amazing art and portraits of public health giants. All free, nice loos and lockers and cafe, and very, erm, welcoming.

I completely agree about trust, WAF. I cannot post some of my family issues or my worst behaviour as it would identify me and perhaps cause hurt, but I so value the honesty and trust on here. And the humour.

MollyAir · 18/08/2015 13:21

I'm very keen on a Crepey Worst Behaved Dog League. I think we should hold a RL competition. Possibly with heats.

For Friday MU, Waterloo is good for me, around 6pm if possible.

I wonder what a Crepey League of our own worst behaviours (if honest) would look like. Grin

CointreauVersial · 18/08/2015 13:23

Have not been to Soane, but loved the Wellcome. Some of it was a bit "rude", though....seem to remember there was some exhibition on vaginas (artistic interpretations of) when I was there last. And a fine collection of dildos through the ages.

Can I add to the suggestions - climbing The Monument?

And there is a cute little museum near St Thomas's, The Old Operating Theatre.

Second the suggestion of Olympic Park followed by Emirates cable car.

Anyway, never mind all this highbrow, edifying tourism. I am clearly a Pleb of Low Intellect, because I am going to The London Dungeons on Thursday. I cannot imagine anywhere I would less like to go, but DD2 (whose birthday it is) would not be swayed. It's hideously expensive too, even with the National Rail 2 for 1 deal (worth checking that out, BD). We did entertain a vague plan to dump the DDs (and two friends) at the Dungeon, then take ourselves off somewhere to drink wine, but children must be accompanied, unfortunately. Kill me now.

Well done at TKMaxx, WAF. I love/hate that place in equal measures.

Blackduck · 18/08/2015 14:46

WAF - I am the orange dog in sunglasses (but of course you are BD :) )

Thanks for all the suggestions - will ask ds when I see him later.

Still wading through job app - which must be in tomorrow as I won't have time Thursday....

Blackduck · 18/08/2015 14:47

My DHound would be high on the dog list - although Dylan in his hay day might have won out right hey Beachy! :)

herbaceous · 18/08/2015 15:04

Fail on the parenting front. Rocked up at the sky garden at the right time, but the wrong date! Had booked it for 31 August! What a divvy.

However, lovely DS just said 'I dont mind mummy', and we wandered around looking at skyscrapers. We tried to go in Heron Tower to a) look at the amaIng aquarium and b) go up the lift for the view, but Faceless Capitalism wouldn't let us.

So we went to the bank of England museum. Which was surprisingly entertaining. You get to lift up a real gold bar!

wordassociationfootball · 18/08/2015 15:33

Yes yes to bank of England museum and it's free entry!!!

Sorry about Sky Garden Herbs. And thanks for linking to it. I'm going to take my mum on the bus some time after term starts again.

bigTillyMint · 18/08/2015 15:40

Herbs Grin Oh to have an easy - going tot. I think I'd be pretty near the top if there was a grumpy/screechy/parent-hating teen girl section!

I am having a pedi, feeling completely wasted despite a semi-decent sleep last night. Hopefully I will be on better form tomorrow, though DS seems to have invited a mate or 2 for a sleepover.

herbaceous · 18/08/2015 16:44

He is exceptionally easy going. Though had a right paddy the other day when I tried to wipe an encrustations off his t-shirt with a baby wipe.

I have no mad dog, but do have the most MENTAL cat. He's 17, deaf as a post, and his only want in life is to be as close to me as possible. However, this clashes with his refusal to leave the kitchen or garden. So whenever I go in the kitchen, he runs up to me, miaowing continually, until I stroke him. As soon as I stop, he starts again. If I stand near any sort of surface, he jumps on to it, purring, tapping my arm and looking imploring. He is now lying across my shoulders, purring. This is easier than have him lean over my iPad, drooling.

If I leave the kitchen, he won't follow. It's as if there's an invisible force field at the threshold.

He drives me batty.

QueenQueenie · 18/08/2015 17:25

Tell him next time it'll be spit on a hanky if he carries on like that Herbs!

Love the idea of Crepey worst behaved dog competition... but have to tell you all now that ddog would walk it... although Stropps has told me some pretty good stories about her terriers more shaming moments!
