Sam Cam, Jools Oliver etc - how do they fit exercise and beauty stuff in

Do they get lots of help? Wondering if they do their running and work outs at 5am as they seem quite hands on mums.

I think it's the little things that add up in terms of making you feel too knackered to exercise/commit to looking great. I used to work nights and that in itself was exhausting and mucked up my body clock but add in dragging myself out of bed at 1pm to have a bite of "breakfast" and then drive across town in lunchtime traffic to collect a grizzly toddler who then spent the afternoon clinging to my leg because he'd not seen me in 16+ hours. The very last thing I could do on my days off was "fit in" my personal trainer/massage/blow dry/stylist/swim/spa weekend. Funny, that.

Sam Cam certainly, will have an army of "behind the scenes" people who allow the smooth running of her day. They will do the stressful, time consuming, mind numbing ordinary stuff (groceries, cleaning, ironing, school run) so that Sam cam doesn't have to. Or only when she wants to, at least.

If I were Jools Oliver, I'd enjoy my privileged lifestyle, too!

CardiCorgi · 02/06/2015 09:03

Well I reckon that in both their cases the thought of a camera being shoved in their faces / trained on their thighs every time they step out of the house helps swing the "do I have another biscuit or go for a run" dilemma.

Bonsoir · 02/06/2015 09:04

CardiCorgi - I'm sure you are quite right about that!

Swimminguphill · 02/06/2015 09:09

Do you ever just think they are probably real 'A' types? I mean, I think you really have to be to cope with a partner with that kind of schedule and a family and keeping your own work on track etc. Some people thrive on discipline, routine and self-control (not me, unfortunately). So it's not so very hard for them, what would worry them is the black hole of no routine, nothing to do. I am excellent at staring at a blank patch of wall for 3-4 hours at a time, so I would probably totally beat both of them at that.

TheWordFactory · 02/06/2015 09:17

Probably swimming.

Cameron has always been very quick to credit his wife for her tireless support and positivity. He seems to adore her and recognises her role in his success.

Jamie has been less gushing about his wife.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 02/06/2015 09:20

I think wondering why you don't look like multi-millionaire Sam Cam and Jools is being a bit harsh on yourselves...

Health inequalities are huge in the UK. In wealthy parts of the country, the life expectancy is an incredible ten years higher than in poorer parts. It would be great for us to all reach our full potential and look great etc, etc, and of course, that is done on an individual basis and requires discipline and knowledge, blah di blah, but let's not pretend that we all have the advantages that they have.

(I don't mean that negatively against them, btw, they both seem very nice women...)

Bonsoir · 02/06/2015 09:24

Wealth, education and privilege are, however, no guarantee of health and beauty!

TheWordFactory · 02/06/2015 09:25

I think that's all some of us were trying to say john.

Don't compare yourself unfavourably to people who have many more advantages than you do. In fact, try not to compare.

Set your own targets and be pleased to reach them.

pinkfrocks · 02/06/2015 09:27

Only Sam Cam controls what she puts into her gob.

You can have an army of helpers but if you can't control what you eat then you are never going to be slim.

Again, I'd ask you to think about the previous wifely inhabitants of No 10- 2 PMs previously.

TheWordFactory · 02/06/2015 09:28

Of course not bonsoir but we shouldn't dismiss them as unimportant.

TheWordFactory · 02/06/2015 09:29

pink why are you obssessed with weight?

How good someone looks and feels is about far more than what the scales say.

Bonsoir · 02/06/2015 09:31

I'm not dismissing them as unimportant at all. However, just thinking back to the party I went to last weekend where 120 wealthy, educated and privileged people were gathered, there were plenty of obese/ugly/terminally ill with cancer etc people alongside the perfect-at-50-in-Alaias.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 02/06/2015 09:36

You should try going to a party of 120 poor, uneducated and unprivileged people then, Bonsoir ;)

DrankSangriaInThePark · 02/06/2015 09:37

Maybe the previous PM's wives weren't obsessed with their looks? As you clearly are pink. Hmm

(not a criticism of Samantha Cameron, just the general attitude that she is some kind of icon whilst other PM's wives are not. Maybe they were more focussed on their careers? Careers which, unlike Samantha's, don't involve frocks?)

ssd · 02/06/2015 09:40

its amazing how much freedom and time to yourself money can buy you

I worked for a footballers wife once upon a time

the amount of freedom she had was just amazing

someone to do all the washing, ironing and putting away

someone to clean your house from top to bottom

someone to fill your fridge and cupboards with food

can you imagine the time you'd have if you walked through your house and it was all done for you?

and on top of this,a full time nanny there most of the time to pick up the kids, get up early so you could lie in/go to gym, feed them and listen to the incessant moaning, etc etc

unless you've actually seen first hand the lifestyles these women, including jools and samcam have, its hard to imagine what money buys

Bonsoir · 02/06/2015 09:40

Samantha Cameron sensibly keeps her mouth shut in public. She is very wise.

ssd · 02/06/2015 09:41

also lets face it, samcam and jools are naturally long, lean and attractive women

TheWordFactory · 02/06/2015 09:43

That's true bonsoir.

She doesn't try to pass as just an ordinary Joe punter or a Wonder Woman.

Sootgremlin · 02/06/2015 09:46

No one is saying they aren't disciplined. Just that it is easier to be disciplined if you have help in the areas of your life that encroach on your free time, a large enough home and money for equipment, the ability to pay for a trainer to visit at your convenience.

Also, I think it's clear looking at both Samantha & Jools that their body shape and fitness is achieved largely by exercise. The 70-30 thing only applies to losing weight, maintaining fitness and weight is the reverse. They look like they eat really well and work out to maintain their shape. They have tall lean shapes to begin with and use the resources at their disposal to keep them that way.

Nannies and cleaners help with this, otherwise people wouldn't employ them!

pinkfrocks · 02/06/2015 09:48

Drank This is a style and beauty forum. I thought the general idea was to discuss looks? I actually didn't start the thread, so maybe you ought to aim your ridiculous comments at the OP-or toddle off if you don't want to discuss style and beauty?

Commenting that someone manages to stay slim is hardly being obsessed with looks- what a totally daft comment.

Quiero · 02/06/2015 09:49

Agree with many others that motivation is the key (leaving aside the obvious money/time and genetic factors)

It's got to be easier to find the motivation if you are in the public eye. If I thought for a second I'd be photographed in a bikini and plastered all over the media I'm sure I could find the motivation to get up before 6am!

That Fail cover with Sam Cam was oneof the most mysoginistic covers I've ever seen Sad

6Musiclover · 02/06/2015 09:49

Cherie Blair has a hugely sucessful career in her own right. Samantha Camerom does what exactly?
Pink, you seem obsessed with weight. Not a very healthy attitude

pinkfrocks · 02/06/2015 09:49

are you overweight word- you seem rather touchy about comments that have anything to do with being fit and a sensible weight.

Not at all pink

And I am extremely well groomed.

But hell will freeze over before I get my kicks telling other women that they should be able to do what I do!

Iirc you are around sixty? Have no DC at home? So I'm wondering what possible pleasure you get from chasing young mothers around the internet pointing out their failures.
