Do they get lots of help? Wondering if they do their running and work outs at 5am as they seem quite hands on mums.

Pink...sounds great!! please find me a Term time only job that fits in with DC school and Dhs job (works away) I've been looking for 2 years with no luck. Been to 2 interviews recently which turned out to be for zero hours contracts.
That would be super if you could do that!

Sorted! How about teacher training? Paid on the job under several training schemes. Or TA if you don't want to actually teach.

And no, I didn't say I didn't value volunteering. I do. Please don't misinterpret- but if you want to be able to afford stuff for you and your family then work that pays sometimes comes before giving your time for free.

pinkfrocks · 01/06/2015 20:11

that was for Baddz BTW!

pinkfrocks · 01/06/2015 20:13

I don't think I will regret all the times I didn't work out /do yoga/go swimming at the end of my life tbh.But I might regret the times not spent just smelling the roses, you know?

you need to work out or exercise in some way to stay alive long enough to be able to smell the roses. Exercise is more about being healthy than looking like a super model.

Baddz · 01/06/2015 20:15

Pink...I don't have a degree. And ta jobs are like hens teeth!!
I started an ou degree actually but then the he fees went up (400% in my case) and I had to quit. Can't afford more debt Hmm
Anyway, sorry am hijacking the thread a bit.
Back to samcam!.....

Baddz · 01/06/2015 20:19

I do exercise a bit Grin
I went walking yesterday and today
But I don't do it regularly
Lots of reasons why.

Shenanagins · 01/06/2015 20:20

baddz sorry to hear that and I hope I don't sound as though I'm picking on you.

I have genuinely found that the half hour run has been hugely beneficial not only physically but mentally too -it gives me peace and quiet to think and clear my mind.

I know I sound like I'm banging on but for most people exercise can be easily incorporated into their life but they need to be motivated to do so.

Baddz · 01/06/2015 20:22

Pure...yes!
Exactly
That's where I am atm
"Day to day drudge"
I am trying to see this as a period in my life that won't last rather than
"This is it" iyswim?

Ubik1 · 01/06/2015 20:27

I find yoga is great for my mental health as well as my bingo wings.

It is probably the only two hours I get to myself each week and I find I sleep so much better, am more productive at work and have more energy at the weekends.

Exercise that you like can really bring mental health benefits and I hope yoga is one if the things I look back on as valuable at the end if my life.

Baddz · 01/06/2015 20:29

I did try yoga
I disgraced myself Confused Grin

pinkfrocks · 01/06/2015 20:31

baddz sorry to hear about the degree issues.

Bur exercise is really not about being an 8-10 it's about being healthy. heart disease is still the no 1 killer in the UK for men and women. My main reason for exercising is not to stay slim but to lower my risk of cancer- breast cancer- and heart disease.

6Musiclover · 01/06/2015 20:32

I Absoloutly hated yoga. Did nothing for me at all. I love being out in the fresh air though. Nothing like a really long walk and then a lovely pub meal at the end of itSmile

GeorginaWorsley · 01/06/2015 20:34

The thing is I actually enjoy and look forward to exercising.
I used to be so unfit and whilst not really fat I was slightly overweight and getting worse each year post 40.
Exercise makes me look and more importantly feel better, which is a huge positive in my life.

Baddz · 01/06/2015 20:36

Yes I like walking Smile
Is yoga supposed to be sooo boring!?
I like swimming too
Living in a village doesn't help matters...it costs so much to do classes, go to the pool in the next town etc

6Musiclover · 01/06/2015 20:37

I'm laughing at the advice to take up teaching. Just like that eh? I have two teacher friends Working as TA's because they can't find any teaching jobs. One has 10 years experience, the other seven.!
Some people really don't have a fucking clue!

DinosaursRoar · 01/06/2015 20:44

oh and to give the otherside, in a previous life I worked for a high level head hunter, board level people in and out of the office daily. Amongst the top flight woman we saw, some would be like SamCam and JO, but a lot, even though they were on 7 figure packages and could afford all help possible, weren't size 8s. I don't think I ever met any who were significantly overweight/obese, but not being thin and toned is perfectly normal for board level woman with DCs who are juggling high pressured careers and family life.

Many do fit in gym sessions first thing/lunch hour/end of day, some just don't. However, well cut expensive clothes and neat hair was a must, and both can make an otherwise not very fabulous body look far better than it would do otherwise.

It's not laughable. Really. I don't know why your friends can't get a job, but I was posting about teacher training. Many local schools in my area are currently advertising training vacancies under the Schools Direct training programme. Yes, you need a degree or an equivalent level of education as a mature entrant.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 01/06/2015 21:06

Oh Baddz. What a hard time you have had. Thanks

Baddz · 01/06/2015 21:15

Ah, I'm ok.
But thank you x

MumSnotBU · 01/06/2015 21:27

I didn't discover exercise beyond walking dog/housework/running around after kids/gardening until my youngest was at school and I had a little more time. When they're little (I have 4 close together in age) it's like you're only just managing to get through the day. I thought people who exercised should do something useful with all that energy like help someone like me drowning in childcare, washing and nappies Smile

Now I've discovered running I'm a total convert. I do it because I enjoy it, not to make me look better, not to reduce risk of disease or to live longer. Just because I love the simplicity of it. Like tonight I was out in the rain, wind and mud in a forest just enjoying being alive. I suppose it's my way of smelling the roses...

I hate the idea that people might look at me being slim and toned and think I'm some sort of hyper driven narcissistic bitch with a housekeeper, nanny and cook.

Emiliasmumtobe · 01/06/2015 21:29

Baddz - were you not able to do the OU degree under transitional fee arrangements? I started in March 2012 with an Opening course and because I'd started just before the fees went up,I was able to continue with my OU degree under transitional arrangements of £750 per 60 credit module. I still have two years to go. how many credits have you got already? Transitional fee arrangements end Dec 2017 so it might be worth you calling the OU to see if you can continue for the next two years under the cheaper rate.

puremuscle · 01/06/2015 21:40

I don't think anyone thinks that mumsnbu. They probably think you have a lot more free time than when the children were younger.

Personally, I find it important to be fairly slim and active but that doesn't involve masses of cardio vascular workouts at the moment. I do some but other things often take priority a lot of the time. As the children get older, I will exercise more on a more regular basis.

JasperDamerel · 01/06/2015 21:46

Teaching really isn't a family-friendly job. Ok, you get the summer holidays off, but you work incredibly long hours during term time, so can't take time off for a sick child, or to see your child get an award, or support them with weekend or after school activities.

Baddz · 02/06/2015 07:33

Emilia...I will check that out, thank you
