New thread!

OP posts:
DrankSangriaInThePark · 04/07/2015 09:55

Thanks, Big. The Retin just broke me out, maybe will have to order some more and give it another bash!

Back2Two- Hylamide eye stuff seems to be getting the thumbs up. I can tell you which ones are crapola....

N7 Protect and Perfect
Elemis Pro-Collagen Very Expensive Watery Shite.
Superdrug green tube with organic rosehip and something else organic and lovely sounding (this was OK as a round eye moisturiser, certainly no worse for £1.99 than the almost £30 Elemis shite, but still, we are not talking Holy Grail)
Dr Organics Coconut Oil
Garnier red tube

I may have been slightly obsessed with eye products.....

ilovetosleep · 04/07/2015 09:55

bigbuttons I am guessing you mean sulwhasoo - I have my eye on that or the ginseng eye cream, but I have very sensitive eye area and eye cream often stings. Would you say it is gentle? I'm looking at either tha or hylamide eyes

bigbuttons · 04/07/2015 10:03

Yes drank retin broke me out at first, that's normal. I just kept going with it, the purging stopped quite quickly.

Auto correct is driving me crazy at the moment. I have typed sulwhasoo in so many times and it keeps correcting it even though it tell it not to!!!!
ilove I have the ginseng face cream and love it. I should think the eye cream is fab too. I have a different one (for old gimmmers)

OP posts:
bigbuttons · 04/07/2015 10:05

I don't know about gentle. It doesn't sting or break me out or cause puffiness etc etc. Does that mean it's gentle? You only use the tiniest amount, really just a smidgen, so you haven't got a huge heavy layer on your face, but the think layer thats there is really moisturising.

Banging ... The LRP redermic R is a good start :) I used it for a few weeks before starting retin A 0.05 and I think it helped my skin accept the stronger retin a

Hi BigButtons, sorry for the delay in replying – I’m on holiday on an island in the North Sea. Here are the ingredients for my niacinamide serum. I’m still tinkering with it so any suggestions or criticisms would be very welcome:

Niacinamide 5%
Glucosamine 2%
De-ionised water 32%
Gotu Kola non-alcoholic tincture 3%
Bearberry non-alcoholic tincture 6%
Licorice non-alcoholic tincture 6%
Horse chestnut non-alcoholic tincture 3%
Marshmallow non-alcoholic tincture 6%
SKB 30%
Dermagen 7%

I just dissolve the niacinamide and glucosamine in the water, mix the tinctures in with the skb and dermagen, then combine the two and keep in a dropper bottle. I make tiny amounts weekly and keep it in the fridge as it has no preservative in it.

I might change the water for a hydrosol like rosewater to make it smell nice. At the moment it smells pretty neutral.

I chose these ingredients to help with my issues: mild rosacea, visible capillaries, general aging/crepeing/sagging (I’m 47), sun spots, yellowing of face compared with rest of body.

The non-alcoholic tinctures I bought from Mountain Fresh. They are 1:2 extracts into glycerine so I use 3 times the recommended percentage in the formula – I hope this is correct. The other ingredients I bought from Active Formulas.
The Bulk Actives website has really good information on the different actives and their synergies. I also use Skin Actives, EDS, Skin Care Talk etc for information.

I layer 2% Vitamin K1 in Rosehip Oil over this serum.

Hello everyone! Not been around a while and am taking notes.

My current regime is:

La Roche Posay Physiological Cleanisng Gel - love this even more than Cetaphil but will prob try a different French pharmacy gel next time
Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion - it's OK but not as good as Paula's Choice by a long shot. Thinking of trying Bravura when it runs out
Hylamide - really like, just seems to add a bit of freshness

Then in the mornings finish with Ultrasun SPF 50 Face - don't like this at all. Only bought because I'd run out of SPF and needed something ASAP. It works but feels greasy and has a massive white cast. Am being won over by the arguments for physical sunscreens though so contemplating my next purchase. I miss the niacinamide of Sunsense but found Sunsense rolled a bit.

Pm - Retin A followed by Cerave. Starting to run out of 0.025% and will step up to 0.05% in the next couple of weeks - need to as current regime not totally keeping the acne at bay.

Once a week - 20% Salicylic/Mandelic peel from SR Skincare. Fantastic.

In an emergency - Vichy Hyaluspot for spots, brilliant and also stops a lot of the flaky peeling when the spots disappears. Avene Cicalfate - amazing barrier and gets rid of redness really fast if skin sore.

Things I've used up:

SK SKincare Haloxyl eye serum. I think this really made a difference to my dark circles although didn't like the consistency of the product or the cheap packaging. Thinking of going for a more expensive product next time like GloTherapeutics eye serum

Avon Clinical e-Defence SPF. Bottle was shit. Product OK though.

Clean and Clear 4-hour gel - used on holiday on whole face instead of packing an acid toner. Brilliant. Will do this again Smile

Things I haven't used up because I don't like them:

Clearasil pads. Found these v abrasive, didn't like the alcohol content. Bought as convenient for travel and they spent most of the time unpacked as I didn't like them.

Clinique Smart serum. Got the sample with a magazine. Smart claims obvs garbage, felt nice but v siliconey. Am sure people will love it as it makes your skin feel really smooth but that's not a lot for an expensive product.

mowglik · 06/07/2015 13:46

kundry are physical sunscreens not more prone to a white cast finish? I have the ultrasun anti-pigmentation spf50 and its not too bad, but I still find it a little greasy. Its fine under makeup though.

Kundry · 06/07/2015 13:56

Yes - but can't I have everything? Wink

I'm v pale so it's not a huge issue but I also don't wear makeup so I'm not covering it up. Thre must be a holy grail sunscreen out there Smile

mowglik · 06/07/2015 14:43

Yes, my holy grail sunscreen would be:
physical sunscreen
non greasy
non sticky
doesn't ball up under other face products
once a day application or another product that goes on easily over makeup

At the moment the other sunscreen I am using is the asian sunscreen Biore spf50 PA+++ and its really good, comparable to a lightweight moisturiser, no white cast. However I still have the issue of reapplying on top of makeup later so am still looking for the HG sunscreen or a great pre makeup and post makeup combo

Itsalldramarama · 07/07/2015 20:00

I bought the no 7 intense protect and perfect spf , quite impressed ! Moisturising , sinks in well , no white cast , no rolling , don't know what's it's like under make up as I don't use it now but seems good so far :)

I bought LRP SPF 50 facial sunblock yesterday, it seems fine so far.

I only wear tinted moisturiser and powder so not much to worry about re make up not going on.

Did look a bit greasy by the end of today but it's very hot at work and my new tinted moisturiser might be causing that. Will use my old one again tomorrow and see.

sonata1 · 08/07/2015 09:35

If I use my Liquid Gold glycolic acid over night and wash it off with cleanser in the morning can I then use my 2% Bravura salicylic acid for 2 minutes half an hour later as my acid toner? I am only asking as it says on the Bravura instructions that if you use other glycolic / salicylic products do not use within 5 hours of using this Bravura 2%.I have been using the Nip and Fab in the morning anyway and that is glycolic.

Kundry · 08/07/2015 10:40

You can but it's prob overkill. There is a limit to how much you can acid exfoliate before it stops looking like glow and starts looking like a beetroot Grin

The instructions are always v cautious (they don't want to be sued) but there is a reasonable argument that if you are already using salicylic/glycolic twice a day, you don't need Liquid Gold as well.

patterkiller · 08/07/2015 10:49

Well, I didn't know you were all here. I've stepped up my skin refine this year and have been using retin A 0.05%. My question, I'm going on holiday next month to sunny climes and obviously use a very high sunblock here and abroad but do I stop using the Retin for the duration of my holiday? Or longer or keep using.
Then I'm going back to read the whole thread.

Kundry · 08/07/2015 10:55

I worried bout this before eventually coming to the conclusion that women still used Retin A in hot countries Smile

I used mine in 40 degree heat and sun for a fortnight in Italy. Was fine with SPF 50 and prob better as my skin had continuity.

Cloggal · 09/07/2015 20:52

Did anyone do a haul after Sali's 50 best under £20 list last week? I did, baa baa

Winners for me so far - the neutrogena oily skin moisturiser, origins spot gel. (I already used revlon lip butters and top shop liner and will vouch for them too).
