I want to spend with you but your offerings are so sore. You can still do your trendy flash in the pan shit, but you would make lots of money if you did:
Cotton round neck cardies in all the colours.
Cotton thick leggings in all the colours
Cotton jersey dresses in different styles in all the colours
Comfortable leather ballet pumps in all the colours
Matching vest and knicker sets in funky patterns
Big boob support nighties and pyjama vest tops.
Go back to having good quality opaque, cotton mix and wool mix tights, I have tights from you that are 5 years old, but this years only lasted 3 washes
I'm your core market, I have money and could be shopping with you for fifty more years.

I always bought my work T-shirts from M&S. Cotton, short sleeves in V or round neck. The quality of this year's is so poor they're almost transparent.
I now buy them at Matalan. They're half the price, are good quality, and wash really well without going out of shape.
I only buy knickers in M&S now as the have really nice ones which give no VPL.

LadyB49 · 15/05/2015 17:27

I love it when they get it right but you have to look for it.
Love the ankle grazers, high waisted jeans, and big knickers.
Also the knitted tunic jumper dresses.

Apart from that ......Yes to what everyone has said.

Longer tops.
Cut the frills, bows, ruffles and the god awful beaded necklines.
Give us really good fitting quality basics and I'll use my own accessories.

OneHandFlapping · 15/05/2015 17:41

Skirts in different lengths. They always used to offer three lengths, now it's only one.

Plus what everyone else said.

buggerthebotox · 15/05/2015 17:46

I'm probably your target market but-at 55-I don't want to look 85!

So, can we drop the hideous polyester tops please? Let's have some nice quality basics in great colours without the plastic bells and whistles? And some good sensible-but-stylish shoes, not 5 inch heels in plastic.

Last year I bought some fab legging-jeans from Indigo. Best thing I've bought for ages. Where the jeff are they this season?

Today I bought a promising-looking cotton jumper in your sale. Another trick missed: too thick, and another one of those hideous round necks that don't do anything for anyone. It's going back.

And finally-please make your stuff in Britain again. People will pay if it's good quality-honest.

EuphemiaCoxton · 15/05/2015 17:48

Childrens clothes that aren't garish, over printed, over frilly and impractical.
I want lovely plain tasteful little girl clothes. I've just bought an adorable little sailor dress from H&M for 2 year old dd and lovely muslin type smock top.

I want classic cashmere cardigans and v neck jumpers. In nude, beige, burgundy, dark forest Green, mulberry.
I want blouses that are elegant, unfussy and good quality. I do not want crazy printed polyester with too many ruffles.
I want pyjamas with shoulders. I hate sleeping with bare shoulders.

Think Audrey Hepburn. If Audrey Hepburn wouldn't wear it, I don't want it.

hollyisalovelyname · 15/05/2015 17:49

5 pack Midi knickers in nude that are cotton and not that awful microfibre s*e.
You can do them in white and black. It can't be that hard to do them in nude.

Autograph Silky Soft Opaques in navy ( for winter)

Rituals Tao range in the Beauty section.

Less plastic in your shoes please.

Good leather copies of the latest 'It' bags / recurringly popular bags - whatever the brand.

Getabloominmoveon · 15/05/2015 18:02

Seconding better nightwear fabrics, with support please! And better quality, sharper cuts all round. Kidnap a J.Crew or Agnes B designer and lock up your sparkle fairies for a while. Keep it simple, and bring back good tights!

Getabloominmoveon · 15/05/2015 18:05

M&S a are you listening? Send us a a sign

ChippyMinton · 15/05/2015 18:15

Machine-washable merino round-neck cardigans all year round please.

Non-see through cotton/lycra scoop neck t-shirts.

And sleeves that fit - I don't have fat arms by any stretch of the imagination but find armholes and shirt sleeves far too tight. and uncomfortable.

goodasitgets · 15/05/2015 18:16

So basically we all seem to want
Underwear in a range of sizes with proper measuring
Longer tops
Comfy, leather shoes
Beautifully cut things with no frills/embellishment/random wank
Plain basics in different colours
Reasonable prices
Range of lengths so maybe petite and tall ranges again?

It's not that hard, surely

clippityclop · 15/05/2015 18:22

Good natural fibres for me, no nasty plastic belts and frilly bits. Bring back 'between size jeans' I am still a 9. And now Next have stopped selling kids clothes bigger than age 12 in their shops can you do decenot lder girls stuff? They do not appreciate scratchy polyester and studs, luminous colours etc either. Cotton please, and not stuff you can spit through, decent colours and generous sizing (Landsend and Boden know how to do it).

Bombinate · 15/05/2015 18:23

And reasonably priced doesn't mean cheap - it means good value for money.

I want to ^not6 have to search round all the different areas to find things. Yes there are however many 'brands' but if I want a blue top, why not have all the tops in one area.

I bought some really good Limited Collection black work trousers.

The Indigo cord leggings are gorgeous, but I'd like more colours in these too.

YY the 5 pocket jeggings Smile

And no scoop neck tops down to the naval (I'm not Louis Spence)

i was really pleased when they started selling more cosmetic brands too.

MadisonMontgomery · 15/05/2015 18:50

Yes to whoever said made in Britain! What happened to the M&S thing they did with mumsnet - did we ever hear anything back?

FFS M&S just sort yourselves out. I don't get how they get it so right with the food - it's basically the same principle! I buy food from them because I know it's always nice quality and the price reflects it. Just do the same for clothes!

ItsRainingInBaltimore · 15/05/2015 18:57

We can't have M&S stuff all made in Britain any more unless you want to pay at least twice as much for it, which until they get new designers on board would be business suicide.

Bunbaker · 15/05/2015 19:02

More cotton knickers. Not artificial sweat inducing material with a cotton gusset. I used to buy the seam free high leg briefs, but you no longer stock them.

Ditto what most posters have already said, especially more clothes made from natural fibres.

Also, skirts that fit women with waists. All their fitted skirts gape at the waist on me. We aren't all apple shaped.

Tops with sensible necklines. Most have ridiculously low necklines. I don't want to look like a porn star at work and, sadly, don't have a cleavage to show off.

Stop trying too hard to be trendy. Trendy people don't shop there. Your target market - people like me (age 56) should be your target market. I want classic styles that don't date and don't look frumpy. There is too much embellishment on the clothing ranges, especially Per Una.

Many years ago I used to buy Per Una because the clothes were attractive and very wearable. Perhaps you should look back at what actually worked.

BestIsWest · 15/05/2015 19:07

I would like Los heeled bi put not frumpy shoes, a plain navy dress for work, women's merino sweaters AFTER January. It's still cold in February you know. Not to be confronted with their entire bikini range the moment Christmas is over.

ADachshundNamedColin · 15/05/2015 19:08

Ive said it before, but I find all the different sections within women's clothing in M&S baffling. I don't really know the difference between Autograph, Classic, Limited Edition etc. It's overly complicated.

BestIsWest · 15/05/2015 19:09

Less embellishment. Better still, no embellishment.

BestIsWest · 15/05/2015 19:11

As for Made In Britain, a big yes. My mum sewed the pockets in all their clothes for years and she says they were so exacting on quality - eight stitches to the inch, no more, no less.

ADachshundNamedColin · 15/05/2015 19:13

Also your non flagship shops are dire and under stocked. Esp bra sizes. All I get told is 'order it online'. Well ok, but what's the point of the shop then? Hmm

BestIsWest · 15/05/2015 19:15

And while I'm at it, get your act together with your offers in the food dept. twice in the last week or so I've picked up items on offer only for them to go through the till at full price , then had to queue for a refund. On my lunch break too. It'll be trading standards next time.

Everythingsgonegreen · 15/05/2015 19:33

I want gorgeous non padded bras-I don't want to look any bigger -I just want bras without bloody padding-especially T shirt bras-

Oh and while we are on bras- more size 32DDs in store please.

Better quality knickers- current ones don't last 5 minutes.

Ditto tights the luxury opaque ones are ok but more colours please not just navy brown and black.

T-shirts in loads of colours scoop necks and lycra instead of this shapeless cotton rubbish. Longer in body please too.Ditto long sleeved base layers in winter.

Gorgeous knit wear- would pay a bit more if you got the colours rights and they were a little edgier - nice jumpers and cardigans ruined by twee buttons-

Dark tint jeans and absolutely no'funky' embellishment sparkles or stitching nonsense.

Great shift dresses for work that wash well and take minimum ironing- look at the colours offered by Boden and you will get the idea-less bloody red grey and black.

Real leather boots -your boots even the ones which are leather look synthetic.

Big slouchy leather bags -you have the quality in bags but no designs that I would touch.

Secret support vests with the shelf bit to support- assistant tells me they exist -not in bloody Manchester they don't.

Nice cotton shorts to wear with secret support vests in bed in summer
time

Ditch the plastic overpriced jewellery - no idea who buys it and do better belts, berets, scarves and bags.

The instore beauty selections/hair care is the direction you should be going in with clothes-higher end good quality .

Outwith · 15/05/2015 19:33

Children's jeans in nice soft / thin denim. Normal thickness denim on a child seems really inflexible.
