I want to spend with you but your offerings are so sore. You can still do your trendy flash in the pan shit, but you would make lots of money if you did:
Cotton round neck cardies in all the colours.
Cotton thick leggings in all the colours
Cotton jersey dresses in different styles in all the colours
Comfortable leather ballet pumps in all the colours
Matching vest and knicker sets in funky patterns
Big boob support nighties and pyjama vest tops.
Go back to having good quality opaque, cotton mix and wool mix tights, I have tights from you that are 5 years old, but this years only lasted 3 washes
I'm your core market, I have money and could be shopping with you for fifty more years.

There's too many garish colours, it's almost painful walking through now. A bit of subtlety would be good.

No garnishes - daft buttons, random ribbons, built in tops/cardigans.

Some consistency in sizing.

Longer tops with necklines for larger of bust - v neck and slash neck.

More natural fibres....!

Good:

Love the people manning their twitter account.

I lufffff MandS and make a point of popping in if I see one abroad (or anywhere else really)

Moans:

MandS needs to regain confidence in their products and stop what feels like a panicked scattergun approach to appeal to anyone and everyone.

Tights that last = velvet touch, live in it during the winter. Need similar dependable in summer.

Sort out your online shopping experience especially during the sales.

Less ranges with more consistency in everything

I shouldn't be four different bra sizes depending on which style I pick up.

Custard tarts and Eccles cakes (bakery) not universally available

Per Una and limited used to be amazing

The MandS in Prague had disgusting toilets and surly staff

Yyyy to lining clothes and less of the random embellishments or dangly bits for me to take off at home.

Good:

I love the food hall and last house move actively included consideration of getting hold of Welsh cakes and other necessities.

Dine in for a tenner
Mulled wine
My sizing frame of reference is based on MandS- I'm a size X in MandS

I would like the designers to design for actual middle aged women of 2015 not to design for what they think middle aged women of 1965 wore.

I half expect when I pass through their underwear department to see pairs of nylon knickers with legs that go down to the knees and bras that have a corset bit that goes down to the waist.

LL0015 · 15/05/2015 10:49

Ban polyester

Use proper bra sizes which means 28 back and H cups. Cups for all back sizes. I'm a 30F. Sort it. Oh and that includes night wear and all tops. Where do you expect me to put my boobs in your clothes?

Keep your boys trousers skinny waisted. Fat kids can go elsewhere. (please) but increase the variety.

Make all your tops longer in the body. All tops, all ranges all sizes. Or do two lengths.

Tights... your tights became shit about 5 years ago. But I have skinny legs. Yours seem to be short and wide. In fact, boys trousers aside, all your clothes are short and wide.

Plain. Plain. Plain. No monkeys, clashing colours, buttons, contrasting fabrics. Plain. Breton, heavy weight cotton, lightweight cotton. Plain.

But I love your higher waist jeans. And your knickers, but do not bring their quality any cheaper else I will stop buying them.

Frostycake · 15/05/2015 10:58

I agree with a lot of this. More natural fibers and better styles needed.

I went into my local Huge out of town M&S the other day to see the new collections and was appalled. It looked like my local Debenhams.

Lots of 'mother of the bride' type outfits, straight out of a 1980s J D Williams catalogue, plus the usual awful Per Una monstrosities which look like they've been designed by children let loose in a craft warehouse. The rest was a boring mass of frumpy cardigans, T-shirts and trousers in frankly shit colours. Everything was made of viscose or polyester.

Even the Indigo collection was poor and uninspired. Nothing exciting in Autograph either. I'm so disappointed with this years' clothes across the whole range of womens' wear retailers.

SevTSnape · 15/05/2015 11:03

Some smart, tailored trousers with big pockets made with something that's not polyester or viscose.

Pockets on trousers are big USP for me. When I worked in retail management, it was effin' difficult to find trousers with pockets big enough to fit my store keys into.
Although, not such a big problem now, I still think it's something women could do with.

Longer t shirts.
A lot longer, several inches.

I'm 5' 6" so very average, and they're too short on me.

Viviennemary · 15/05/2015 11:14

To make sure they have all sizes in stock for most of their clothes would be a start. I'm totally sick of M & S. They're always running out of sizes. Other shops manage to stock average sizes why can't they. This has been going on for years and it never gets any better. The website is dire. I think they deserve every bit of criticism they get. And get rid of the lurid crass colours

OOAOML · 15/05/2015 11:27

Exactly re sizes. I'm a short Scottish woman. There are lots of us. It would be good to go into the shop and not be confronted with racks and racks of long length trousers. Track what sells in each store and order more of that size? Is that kind of logistical planning too difficult?

chevronstripes · 15/05/2015 11:30

yes to return to quality tights plus a few funky colors
yes to plain cotton kids PJs
please improve the boys clothes - quality, colours, styles
more cotton in bras not stuff that sags after one wash
longer tops - I'm not tall but don't want to flash my stomach
return to Autograph/ autograph weekend as it was
banish crap fabrics and embellishments
plain socks that don't wear out in a month
high leg knickers like they used to be - highish in the leg and high in the waist
Please sort out online it is awful and what I really want is an online shop with standard sizes that I can buy the basics a few times each year and maybe tempted into buy some extras too. Would spend a decent amount - promise!

polyhymnia · 15/05/2015 11:33

I would love to see the return of Autograph Weekend with its simple but stylish designs and nice quality materials.

polyhymnia · 15/05/2015 11:35

Also some longer tops and sweaters for those of us who are tall and don't want to display camel toe!

MissBattleaxe · 15/05/2015 11:35

YY to calf length dresses with sleeves. I see way too much bodycon and maxi.

wifeandmotherandlotsofother · 15/05/2015 11:37

YY to Autograph weekend, consistent bra sizing & calf length dresses with sleeves.
More plain cashmere pieces in colours that don't give me a headache and have ZERO embellishment.

Orangeanddemons · 15/05/2015 11:49

They could improve the girls range too. Looks like Primark. If I want stuff from Primark for dd I go to Primark not to that thinks it is Primark but 5x the price. Johnny B have got it right for older girls, M and S haven't.

Actually, I thinki would just like Uniqlo to replace my M and SGrin they've got the basics completely right. Also would like bits of Cos in there too

niminypiminy · 15/05/2015 11:50

I still don't get many of these complaints.

M&S always has loads of plain cashmere. I think their cashmere is great and very good value.

I thought Autograph Weekend was a bit dull actually, always preferred Autograph. And I like this season's line a lot, but that's taste for you. There have been some year's where I've hated the whole of fashion.

I don't mind polyester for some things. I've just bought a lovely pair of lined polyester ivory wide-legged trousers with a satin stripe down the sides and they are great quality considering they were only £35. Lined polyester trousers are brilliant -- wash fantastically, hang brilliantly, no ironing, don't make you go all sweaty, in fact I find very cool in summer.

I do agree about the boy's clothes though, they are really awful. Mind you I've always thought M&S kids' clothes were dire.

Momagain1 · 15/05/2015 11:52

M&S needs to focus on fashionable basics in a wide range of sizes. Not fashion itself, just the go withs, in current and classic colors. Not cheap, unnatural fiber, highly embellished 'fashion'. I can find that anywhere, even at my size.

What I want are quality jeans, trousers, skirts, leggings, stockings, tights, bras, knickers, t-shirts and camis, jumpers and jackets to wear with the 'fashionable' cheap dress or top i bought elsewhere, probably for a specific reason and I dont expect to wear this time next year anyway.

Fashion is randomness, a wardrobe is a collection and thats what I always go to m&s for, to maintain the collection. If i have items geared to go with black trousers, and cant find a replacement for months, thats months of my wardrobe being limited. It doesnt have to be an exact replica, but still, black trousers that arent polyester doesnt seem like a hard thing to provide.

ShelaghTurner · 15/05/2015 11:54

Dear M&S.

I know it's not a popular opinion but your total support bras have kept my bosom where it should be for many years now. But please do them in more colours. A lovely purple and a blue would be very nice. And could you please remove the piece of plastic from under each armpit that saws me in half every time I wear them? You never used to put that in and I have to perform surgery on each bra to remove it. And my bosom survives without it, therefore it isn't necessary and is probably cruel to wombats or something.

Thank you.

Spydra · 15/05/2015 11:55

Can they get rid of all the names for ranges altogether please? I want to look for eg: Casual t shirts. I don't want to be looking in 6 arbritrary categories - Per Una, Autograph, Limited etc. I can't tell the difference anyway!

Justusemyname · 15/05/2015 11:57

I want their children's sizes looked at. I have tall and skinny children. Pants fit the waist but barely cover the bum. Pyjamas are 15-16 yet are shorts on my 14 year old. They fit him once, washed and dried and now just below his knee.

I don't want my eleven year old girl in boy shorts. I want her in proper briefs.

Why do you mainly stop at 12 years? You're losing so much business and I am angry at having to pay vat on clothes for a 11 and 14 year old.

Justusemyname · 15/05/2015 11:57

Please don't ever stop putting sizes in the socks. Only shop to do it, best thing you do.

Khalinda · 15/05/2015 12:00

I remember a time (eons ago) when everytime I went in to M & S I would see something I could/would buy. I gave up shopping there years ago but I do have a little mosey about when I'm picking up food (which I still rate highly).

Seems I can't even buy decent 100% cotton knickers there anymore, they're all mixed with some other material.

bryte · 15/05/2015 12:04

SevTSnape I absolutely agree women's clothes need pockets but there's a flattering way to include pockets on trousers that don't stick out from the hip when they are being worn.

slalomsuki · 15/05/2015 12:17

I would like

Plain bras and matching knickers that last and don't grey/fade in the wash

T shirts with sleeves and a v neck that's not too low and longer in the body. If I wanted a crop top I would have bought one.

Less sparkles and embellishments.

Better quality cashmere. The range when you first brought it in has lasted, the more recent ranges are thinner and don't wash as well.

Ditch the stripper shoes in the shoe department, there are lots of other places that sell plastic platforms with 7 inch heels if I want them.

Have better boys clothes. I agree with the comments about boden boys clothes.

Have stores that are laid out by type of clothes with some outfits that have pieces located nearby. I don't want to have to scour the whole shop to assess it you have black trousers.

Ditch the cafe in the middle of the menswear section in the local store. It was better upstairs with more space and meat you used the third floor of the store. You must make no sales in that floor now.
