Unilateral decision... No space for consultation. Call me Dave...

RoseGrin at your AdamAnt look with exH! I spent a lot of time on the Kings Road when I first moved to London - it was mostly Sloane Rangers round there then. Not me, I hasten to add! But I do remember doing the odd trip when I was a teen when it was all punks. I probably passed my ex without knowing it as he was "an original punk" before my timeSmile
And maybe I should take DD to Bravissimo as she is complaining that her bras don't fit. Again.

We went to see an alterations lady who gave me a very good price for taking my old dress in (not even that much - oh for when I was slimmer than I am now!) and I have also ordered one in a similar colour from HoF, so she can hopefully choose between the two. Or not, knowing her.

Rudy, DH and I went to Barca for my 40th and had a fab time - we stayed in a small hotel in Placa Reial off Las Ramblas with very good shutters!

MI, I found Fit Flops a bit uncomfortable and, well, plastic. I am a Birkie gal - can't beat 'em

Chibi, I have not a clue about peels and the like, so I shall watch and learn.

wordassociationfootball · 29/05/2015 19:18

Me and dd2 toughed it out at Westfield. She got the hump with me in Primark because I said some shorts were trampy and flounced! Grin Apart from that we had a really good time. She is 10 and becoming quite discerning. Said something like 'if we're going to spend £8 on a top, I expect it to have decent stitching Smile

Am typing this while lying on sofa with cat getting an amazing foot massage from DD1 who has put loads of time in revising for year 8 exams the last three days. I'm thrilled.

Conf room sounds like it did the trick CV.

BTW I spent 4 quid on some leggings and that was it! Fell in love with some tan Clark's originals sandals but the toe of them caught under sporadically as I walked round the shop which just won't do. Am so sad, they were lovely.

wordassociationfootball · 29/05/2015 19:19

She flounced not me.

CointreauVersial · 29/05/2015 19:20

I'm also sniggering at the thought of Rose and partner strutting down KR in lip gloss, ruffles and bad haircuts. Our paths might have crossed! (I was the one with the mullet and the puce batwing jumper).

Chibi - not a clue about chemical peels, I'm afraid. I'm from the minimalist school of skincare.
Rudy - I love love love Barca. I can't remember where our hotel was, but I do remember that Las Ramblas was a bit like a sunnier Leicester Square (ie tacky). We did a bike tour (maybe a bit "coals to Newcastle" for you), but we saw all the little nooks and crannies and it really brought the place alive.

Anyway, happy days, TGIF. The Oyster Bay is nicely chilled, as am I.

motherinferior · 29/05/2015 19:37

We have no wine.

But we do have limoncello, later...

Guilt@ revising DD1. My two have done some.

herbaceous · 29/05/2015 19:43

I only have one glass left of red. There is a bottle of beer in the fridge, plus a bottle of prosecco. That could be viewed as excessive, especially as I've got to spend the evening on this buggering assignment. DP is out tonight, but I shall sent him an urgent missive to bring more red...

wordassociationfootball · 29/05/2015 19:44

Its new MI (revising) Won't last til it matters.

Foot massage still going Shock

Cheers CV enjoy your vino.

Must get DD1 out for some air. We try to have zero tolerance on in all day.

Rose so pleased did had a good experience at Bravissimo. Must feel great for you both.

Am taking a gang of girls and my laptop to the pool tomorrow. I love working and glancing through the window to see happy splashers.

motherinferior · 29/05/2015 19:54

I wish I could wear Birkies - they hurt my feet. I've found something at guess where that might do...

God this is boring!

Chibi, I look about 102 at the moment. I'd need serious chemicals.

wilbur · 29/05/2015 20:15

Internship is anywhere between 4 and 6 weeks. It's to help us cover things a bit when one of the long time agents retires and we all need to work out how the slack will get picked up so we need someone with a bit of experience working in an office already, no matter how basic, or a shop or similar. It is a place of opportunity, that's for sure - of the two assistants who started last summer one is already a full agent and may take over the world, and the other is doing a huge amount of interesting stuff and agency work beyond her PA work.

I am interested in the acid toner thing, could do with some glow. My chin bothers me a lot - aside from the doubleness and wobble and the beard, the pores seem to grow daily. Resurfacing would be great so will look at QQ's link.

Rosebag · 29/05/2015 21:12

Fruit acid peel? Glycolic acid peel? Microdermabrasion? Haven't had any of them though. There's something about the word acid used in the same phrase as skin that makes me go a bit funny. All I do is Liz Earle hot cloth doodah, her toner and Nivea blue pot at night but only once or twice a week...too rich otherwise. And El cheapo Boots facial scrub once a week. If I do all that I feel quite glowy the next morning Grin

bigTillyMint · 29/05/2015 21:18

MI, Birkies are what you wantSmile

Wilbur, doubleness and wobble? I have never noticed any of that. Or any need of resurfacingConfused

I am actually missing DSShock But still getting his banter via text!

Blackduck · 29/05/2015 21:40

Birkies - nasty nasty things Grin
Moshulu - now they are a thing of joy

bigTillyMint · 29/05/2015 21:48

BD, how very dare youGrin

Blackduck · 29/05/2015 22:12

BTM they hurt my feet..... :(.

magimedi · 29/05/2015 22:35

Just popping in to say that constant wear of birkies fucked my calf muscle.

So sad I can't wear them anymore, having put up with years of jeers about them & now they are reasonably fashionable.

And, on the grandchildren musings - I became a grandmother two weeks ago. I can't believe what an emotional & snotty mess I am over the little one. Saw her on Skype today for the first time & was in floods. (DS & DIL live abroad & won't see them all for another 4 weeks or so). I love my own children but am not overly maternal & am amazed by how emotional I feel about a grandchild. She is just A M A Z I N G!

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/05/2015 23:20

I luff my Birkies and my Naot sandals. I wore my silver Birkies last night to a party that was the last word in trendiness (it was in Shoreditch for a start), full of actors and artists. The people whose party it was make odd things from jelly. Most of the people there were thirty years younger than me, apart from Trendy Friend that I went with, and a woman in her 60s from Peckham.

Magimedi - that is lovely. Smile DSIL is a grandmother - hers are around 10 though.

lalsy · 29/05/2015 23:22

Magi, congratulations. What wonderful news!

Birkies - I did like them but think they messed my feet up a bit.

Acid toner? Shock. Urgh. Another contender for brandname of the year along with fatbot?

Wilbur, I will have a think.

chibi · 29/05/2015 23:31

I am going to try the sizzler recommended by QQ

I went to see Mad Max tonight, good heavens

The post apocalyptic world is pretty macho, but it does feature people who ride into battle playing guitars that shoot flames (apologies if this has spoiled the film for you)

It was decidedly odd- plenty of the usual action movie guff, but also people yelling 'no unnecessary killings', and women who announced that they were not things

I think I liked it

chibi · 29/05/2015 23:32

Congratulations magimedi, what a wonderful thing to have a grandchild Thanks

NUFC69 · 30/05/2015 06:49

Magimedi, congratulations. You have described me almost perfectly- I am constantly amazed at how the DGC make me feel.

I love my birkies but atm I am enamoured with my new Sketchers which are great.

I have been awake since 3 am because of the wretched cough; otoh I am now well informed about a possible cure for Ebola, babies feeling pain, the FIFA situation and the new rules about driving licences and hiring cars (which seem ridiculous, by the way).

Lovely news Magi

I am Envy of Crepeys who can wear Birkies. They don't suit my large, not very pretty feet, and I couldn't face breaking them in. I bought the Clarkes fugly ones last year and wore them lots.

Let's have reports on QQ s sizzler, chibi

Sorry you're ill again, NU. One thing I have noticed about friends who have become grandparents, is that they are once again thrust into the world of coughs, colds and general snottiness. Be well Flowers

tilly why I get home I'm going to find a photo of my new romantic era, scratch out my face a la chibi and try to post....not that I have the first idea how to upload a photo onto this site....

Is anyone following the thread on bikinis currently raging on the main board? What do you think?

Rosebag · 30/05/2015 10:20

Joins rudy on the not ready to be a grandma bench Grin

wilbur · 30/05/2015 10:44

Congratulation Magi - how lovely! I've heard a similar tale of instant devotion from other new grannies, it sounds bliss. However, I'm not ready to be a grandmother yet either (got some living to do myself first), but give it 10 years and I'll be eyeing up dd's 22 year old womb and saying helpful things like "shouldn't you be using that at some point soon?".

I think I need to vary my heel height a bit more having been living in flats, trainers and converse for the past few years. I have noticed my achilles area is a lot tighter than it used to be and wondered if this was down to all the flatties. I used to wear more mid-heel styles as well, so maybe I need to train myself back up.

What's the bikini thread? Is it about not wearing one when you're crepey? I still wear them, is that wrong?

Sorry to hear about the cough NU but rofl at your night time information gathering. Reminds me of several very obscure films that I watched gradually during nights up when the dcs were tiny.

Stropperella · 30/05/2015 11:32

Magimedi, congrats on becoming a grandma. :)

Chibi, hello - and please don't frizzle your face. You can't be crepey at 40!!

Herbs, any chance of a mini-MU when you're down round these parts? Am sure my ds would share his collection of light sabres with your ds. And we are still in possession of a climbing-frame plus swing and slide. Grin (I think these will be gone after the summer - end of an era)

MrsS, 'odd things from jelly'? My mind is boggling.

Many congrats on the books, WAF and MI. Wishing you painless editing. Grin

Don't much care for babies and small children, although I do note that I am a bit more sentimental about them than I was (given that I used to actively avoid them, this is not saying much). My dm was initially very much of the 'your children, you look after them' persuasion, but she wanted to get more involved after df died. However, she was not fit to be left in sole charge of very little ones anyway, as she is given to volcanic rages and doling out fairly harsh physical punishment on a whim, so I wouldn't have used her as a childminder even if she had offered. She proved her unfitness once when ds was 2. It was right in front of us and we just weren't expecting it, so couldn't get across the ground fast enough to prevent her from whacking him very, very hard for what looked suspiciously like absolutely bloody nothing at all. Mark still there an hour later and granny lost all gp privileges for quite some time (to put it mildly).

I currently have absolutely no interest in becoming a grandparent and suspect (possibly even hope) that I won't be one until I am v. ancient (but I reserve the right to change my opinion on this matter at any time).

Dd had a proper 'date' last night and I have realised that I do know the young man in question, as does ds, and he is a studious and sensible fellow. God help him if he falls for dd. Grin Mind you, she was gibbering around by the front door last night, saying she was too nervous to go out to his car and 'dates never go well, I am always rubbish at them' and I literally pushed her out the door. She took her money, but he paid for dinner!!

Rose, I did smile broadly at your description of your Kings Rd attire. It sounds fab. Looking forward to your pic. :)
