Unilateral decision... No space for consultation. Call me Dave...

iPad won't links the bikini threat. It's quite high up on the S&B board and posters are getting Very Worked Up. I am too scared to post so will remind in the relative safety of the Crepeys who are kind....

stropps we restricted MILs sole charge of the DC when she did similar to DD and made it really clear she didn't like her.... Your DDs date sounds nice btw. Maybe it's just what she needs?

motherinferior · 30/05/2015 11:40

Rudy and Rosebag, you've had a lot of motherhood to put up with Grin.

My feet are just too flat for Birkies.

Am not entirely sure about my haircut but think I like it. Also have realised it's my birthday next week and can't quite face not celebrating it - think I shall corral anyone who wants to go down the pub Grin.

cremolafoam · 30/05/2015 11:52

Congratulation Magi. New life=wonderful
Congrats MI and Waf on completion of master volumes.Smile
Chibi -like Rose I recommend the Liz Earl thingumy. The wash cloth is gentle yet removes all manner of built up gunk. I personally think the answer is relentless moisturising with whatever. Thus plumping up the skin and revealing youth and beauty. It is the long term option I realise.

I ventured over the doorstep last night with dh to a delicious dinner a deux followed by a viewing of an Iranian Cowboy Vampire film .
What? you ask! Well honestly it was quite brilliant. If you like odd arthouse go and see A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night.
Grin
today mostly gardening. It is still bloody cold up here in the stix.
Frankly feel like lighting the fire and watching Netflix

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/05/2015 11:52

I'm up for a drink next week, but probably just the one. DH is in bed with a hangover, as he is incapable of stopping until he has finished the bottle.

I was a Sloane Ranger in the 1980s and hung around the King's Road and Sloane Square a lot, wearing my Puffa or Barbour and braying loudly. I was sick in the fountain in Sloane Square on more than one occasion, after a Jolly Good Session at the Admiral Cod. Oh how I cringe.

I have decided that every time DH orders a record, I shall order another cookery book.

cremolafoam · 30/05/2015 11:59

Grin @Mrs S
I love my floral birkis but only for schlepping around the house. You cannae walk great distances in them that's for sure. I have a pair of Padders Mary Janes with 'walking soles' that don't look alarmingly athletic thankfully and are great for striding out.

wilbur I would love to put dd forward for the internship but unfortunately that would involve her actually getting out of bed. she has applied to work in a donkey sanctuary for the summer.
Give me strength

Stropperella · 30/05/2015 12:10

Oooh, I have just realised I have an S&B recommendation re: moisturiser and plumptious skin. As I am a tad impoverished at the moment and keep spending our meagre income on orthopedic insoles, I don't have many S&B comment to make usually. However, in November I purchased some of this for dd and she found it so good that I tried it myself (thereby also inadvertently finding out that I appear to be no longer allergic to juniper. Maybe I should try gin again - 32 years since my last G+T :) ). I have been using it at night since Nov and still have a quarter of the pot left. I have extremely sensitive skin and rosacea and it is brill. Is not water-based so a little goes a long way. Have now discovered that their 'Beauty Balm' is even better. Seriously fantastic for making my crepey (and it really is crepey) neck feel smooth and less ancient. And it is also not water-based, therefore pot will last for months.

Rose, I am hoping you are right re: dd and this fellow. I still manage to be eternally optimistic that one day she will find the way out of her current mess.

Blackduck · 30/05/2015 12:34

My weekend seems doomed. Was supposed to be date 5 of the birthday ones but due to ill inlaws we can't go. So asked friends to dinner, but she texted this morning to say she timings she has food poisoning.
Then I go and shop and come back to find cheese out back in the fridge not in its wrapped so it's gone all hard - Angry it's just sheer laziness and makes me seethe....

wilbur · 30/05/2015 12:45

Stropps - that moisturiser looks great. Calendula is fab - I used to use Weleda's baby oil on the dcs, especially ds2's lizard skin, and it was great. I wonder if the cream would help ds1's skin? He has developed quite bad acne, although only on his forehead at the moment (it's exacerbated by him having thick oily hair that he doesn't wash properly, blueergh). He has some spot cream, but I'm wondering if a more balancing approach, rather than zapping the zits, might help. Anyone with teenage acne recommendations, let me know.

And your dd's date sounds lovely Smile and even if they only have a few dates, she will still have the boost of knowing he likes her. I know we're all supposed to love ourselves and find the power within, blah, blah, blah, but sometimes getting external approval can be a catalyst for positive things.

bigTillyMint · 30/05/2015 12:58

Congratulations MagiFlowers

Rose, looking forward to the photo, but don't scratch your face out - we need the full effect.

Stropps, date sounds great! Hope it continues to go well - we need a bit of romance. Rudy, how is your DD's going? And your DD's, Cremo. Or is she more interested in donkeys now?!

MrsS, we used to frequent the World's End. I might also be persuaded out for a drink MIWink

I walk to work (a mile or so) and back in my Birkies every day with no problems so far. Maybe it's because I have high arches -> so comfy?

motherinferior · 30/05/2015 13:00

I have feet like flippers.

Stropperella · 30/05/2015 13:26

Wilbur, that cream helped dd's acne and generally inflamed skin. Did you see they do trial sizes of the Calendula cream and the Beauty Balm for only £1.99 and reduced postage? Very much worth a go, I should say!

BD, sorry to hear the w/e is not going well so far with everything cancelled due to illness. :(

BTM Grin @ 'is she more interested in donkeys now?'

I have always loved my gold birkies, but I don't know if my back will approve this year. Have had to stop wearing most other totally flat shoes unless they have monster orthopedic insoles.

cremolafoam · 30/05/2015 13:43

Stropps those products look delicious. I quite fancy trying the Beauty Balm. It's all very reasonably priced too. Thanks for the linky.
When I lived in Australia I used a lot of Jurlique products cos I was rich and single. Absolutely gorgeous rose and calendula creams and potions, but now v expensive. Sad

cremolafoam · 30/05/2015 13:47

And no, BTM the Unsuitable Boy seems to be the centre of everything at the minute. Dh and I are enjoying every last minute until the DD Bomb arrive in 10 days time. I will be pleased if she just gets any job, donkeys or not this summer as I don't want her lying about on Skype all day pretending she can't see us. She has 'previous' in this regard.Shock

Am having a think about Barcelona Rudy. Are you looking at hotels or Air B and B ? City break or beach break?

whattodoforthebest2 · 30/05/2015 16:21

Hello crepeys - I've been lurking here for a while, but as the subject of work experience has raised it's head, I'd thought I'd pick your brains...

DD16 is looking for a part-time job and/or work experience for the summer hols. She is bright, friendly and confident until it comes to thinking about applying for jobs! Her CV looks good insofar as her GCSE grades should be good and she has lots of interests - music, drama, dance, social media etc. But when it comes to approaching local businesses/walking into a shop, she freezes and I then take up the reins and ask the questions. But that's not what it's about, is it? She needs to be doing the talking. She really doesn't think she's worth employing and is worried about what they'll ask her to do, despite me saying that at 16, they won't expect her to know anything!

Any suggestions gratefully received.

whattodoforthebest2 · 30/05/2015 16:25

Sorry, I realise that this isn't an S&B topic, just posting here as some of you seem to be in the same boat as me. Smile

bigTillyMint · 30/05/2015 16:29

Cremo, will Unsuitable Boy be coming to visit? I was one for Unsuitable Boys.
Until I decided it was time to settle down, aged 31, and met DH. So you may have a way to go. I think DD may be one for the Unsuitable Boys too.

I may send off for your cream, Stropps - I'm not sure if it's Rosacea, but I do have rosy cheeks.

NUFC69 · 30/05/2015 16:37

Sorry to hear that your weekend has gone belly up, Wilbur. Stropps, thanks for the recommendation: DD has psoriasis so I think I might get her some (and I can always use it if it isn't her cup of tea.

Crem, it's actually quite warm here and I have been outside weeding with just a t shirt on (plus bottoms, of course). We have almost given up with the central heating.

Rosebag · 30/05/2015 16:41

whattodo hello. It's so much harder for teens to get holiday/Saturday jobs now. Most employers want you to be older. I had my first weekend job at 14. dS2 is 17. He won't go into anywhere alone either, if it's any consolation. He does do some tutoring for GCSEs now for which he charges. Work experience is coming up and I had to badger DH to get him something...he's doing a week in a French bank because he wants language experience. But it was all calling in favours. Some cafes offer casual waitressing...and some offices don't mind casually employing teensfor boring data input work. What about helping to run summer camps? Could you go with her and then wait outside? Sorry I'm not much help. Things have even changed between my two DSs...the older one did DJing from 16 and then had a job two years running in john Lewis...they took kids on for the summer to help with the school uniform madness.

Rosebag · 30/05/2015 16:43

Unsuitable boys rock Grin

NUFC69 · 30/05/2015 16:44

What todo, welcome. It's a long time since DD needed work experience, but she wanted to become a solicitor and wrote a nice letter to all the local companies. Only one responded, but they offered her work for the six weeks' holiday before she started Sixth Form. Good luck! Oh, they did say that they liked to help local students and were glad she had written.

MollyAir · 30/05/2015 17:40

Hello, Whattodo, welcome. Work experience - if everything else fails, a student's old primary school will usually take them as a classroom volunteer, and it does reinforce the idea that they have actually grown up. And that people love them.

BTM, the weather here is glorious, and I hope it stays that way for BP tomorrow. Shall we meet at those gates where I first met you and lalsy on our bikes?

Magimedi, congrats and Envy Envy Grin

MollyAir · 30/05/2015 17:57

Oh dear, sorry, primary schools may not be open in the summer hols...Blush. Nonetheless you could probably ask her old primary school teachers for ideas - they like to help former pupils.

motherinferior · 30/05/2015 18:03

Hi Whattodo - I think I can safely say we have a somewhat tenuous right to be an S&B thread Grin.

I only took up with a Nice Asian Boy (and my mum emailed half the subcontinent in relief) at 36. And after yet another bruising experience with an Unsuitable one. So I'm no help, am I...these days I rely on cats to stomp into my life, demand affection and then cold-shoulder me, having left havoc and chaos in their wake. There were several decades when drink, drugs and/or Other Attachments only served to make a gentleman more attractive in my regard.

motherinferior · 30/05/2015 18:08

In S&B news can I draw the attention of fellow red lipstick addicts to the new Revlon HD in Dahlia - a lovely brown-toned red and v cheap (and with the points it'll put on my Boots card I'm going to get the pricier Clinique matte crimson, also delightful).
