Ooh a wedding...Outfit, Tilly ??

cremolafoam · 16/05/2015 10:07

Rose and Rudy : do you know this website ....?
Rainy Days
They have hooded trench coats

Have had a busy and fruitless week trying to keep going at work and trying to think what I'll do if redundancy hits. All horrifically stressful. To the point the physio told me he couldn't work anymore on my back because of the tension in it.
Off to Berlin on Monday-for a break! Only two more sleeps

Molly I finished Her but found the denouement very sudden.
Very nice evocation of the south of France tho.

Blackduck · 16/05/2015 10:12

Here DDog has stepped on something and cut his paw - blood all over the house.....
Lovely.

I am hoping for a low key weekend!

Rosebag · 16/05/2015 10:28

Oooohhhh cremo I LOVE them....thinking about the magenta one...hope they ship over here....

hattymattie · 16/05/2015 10:35

Wow Rudy - close shave and thank god for alert DDog.
BD -hope your DDog's paw is OK.

Here the temperature has plummeted, honestly I do not expect to be wearing a woolly jumper in mid May.

I'm here with DS at a bit of a loss I think we'll go to the Chinese for lunch.

lalsy · 16/05/2015 12:21

Gulp about the break in Rudy. Hope your ds has cheered up - as Rose says there are still retakes (think for the last time) and anyway, people do dip sometimes - most of dd's mates seemed to get where they wanted to be despite glitches/hormones etc. I know it is demoralising tough - especially at the start.

Crem, whoopee Berlin, love it love it.

addle · 16/05/2015 13:20

think that tulip coat is another example of a boden designer secretly slipping in (slightly odd, truncated it's true) phallic symbols into the fun boden offering

Blackduck · 16/05/2015 15:00

Addle :).
I do like the idea of it being some kind of competion - glee how mad it is and then how many actually sell..... I recall a particularly Helios cardigan some years ago that looked like it had been made from remnants sewn together by a blind tailor.....

Blackduck · 16/05/2015 15:48

Hideous....

Fat fingers and iPad.....

herbaceous · 16/05/2015 16:27

Aaagghhh! I've now found another coat I want on that Rainydays website. Damn you.

Had a most productive day. In a shock move, DP suggested a trip to Westfield. By 12 o'clock we had four presents, pyjamas and socks for DS, Lego for DS, various bits from Boots, and a quick whizz round Tiger.

We tried to buy a lightweight summer coat for DS - we're going to Paris next weekend, and it's going to be showery - but none of John Lewis, H&M, Uniqlo or Primark had coats of any sort. Does it not rain in the summer? Hmmm?

herbaceous · 16/05/2015 16:44

Further coat news: I found my leather jacket. It was behind the settee, where I had carelessly [excuse me] tossed it off after a drunken evening out. And DS's summer jacket of last year just about fits.

Sighs of relief all round, eh crepeys?

Our lovely neighbours have invited us round for a barbecue. They are renowned for making extremely strong cocktails, so that rather puts paid to any plans I had for assignments this evening. I'm having something of a panic on that front. It's due in on 8 June, which you would think was plenty of time. But between now and then, I have exam invigilation, lots of teaching, a reflective essay on a piece of policy, some visual material to produce about lip-reading, a four-day trip to Paris, a day babysitting my dad, and other stuff. My assignment may not be to the highest standard. And another one's due in on 22 June.

herbaceous · 16/05/2015 16:57

Another Westfield purchase - a little treat from DP. The small version of

this gorgeous stuff. Smells divine.

cremolafoam · 16/05/2015 17:21

Ooh Herbs lovely stash madam!

Yes the rainy day people do indeed ship to the UK from the Netherlands I think, where it often rains Grin
I am pissed off there is no Tiger here although I did do a massive raid on one in Dublin recently. Lovely tissue paper and stationary. And tins; I always buy tins!

Rosebag, I hadn't clocked you as a biker chicGrin

Blackduck · 16/05/2015 17:42

Was going to suggest M&S for a light jacket for Ds Herbs.
Here my Penhaligons delivery has gone missing :(

CointreauVersial · 16/05/2015 18:06

The sun has been cracking the stones all day, and the crepey chat is all about coats. Confused Herbs, try Mountain Warehouse for lightweight and inexpensive coats for DS.

It's been a jolly good weekend so far. Last night was the annual BBQ and trophy awards from DS's football club, so lots of catching up with old friends. DS got a little award for reaching 100 caps (he started with the team at age four), and the coach he's been helping as part of his DofE gave him a voucher, which he was quite chuffed about. And I won a box of chocs in the raffle.

Today was the village fair; always lovely. I came home with the usual bagfuls of crafty stuff and jams, and relieved the cake stall of some of their wares. The DCs all have friends over (I count nine in the house/garden at the moment). Meanwhile DH is outside, grumpily pruning; fairs are not his thing, and the queue for the ice cream van was too long. Grin

NUFC69 · 16/05/2015 18:44

Attempted break in sounds upsetting.

We have been out for lunch to our favourite Italian, accompanied by DD and her DC (her DH is away for a couple of days). We then drove to Newbiggin for a walk/scoot along the prom. There is a huge sculpture in the sea called 'The Couple', and a smaller version on the prom so that you can see the details of the proper one. Someone had dressed up the life sized version on the land as a bride and groom. We assumed it had been done for fun, then realised that there was an actual wedding taking place in the church on the headland - the wedding party would be walking along the prom later. We thought it was an original idea.

NUFC69 · 16/05/2015 18:45

CV, your day sounds lovely- I do like a good village fair.

CointreauVersial · 16/05/2015 20:35

NU, this one is particularly nice because it is about 100 metres from our front door, so we can just come and go. And the parade goes past our house.

Anyway, down to three kids now - DD2 and mates - who are Minecrafting furiously in the playroom. DD1 is somewhere on Box Hill with her posse. Dropped DS and GF at a small party earlier; DH let him take a couple of cans of cider. Too young (15.5)? It will be interesting to see how he is when we collect him later this evening. GF said sternly "don't worry, I'll make sure he behaves."

lalsy · 16/05/2015 21:30

CV, we have done similar with ds for the last few months (just turned 16). Well, actually, we bought him first a bottle of M and S Bucks Fizz, complete with pink and gold label because he thought it was so cool Grin. He has had to get a bit cooler now and pretend to like a can of beer. I dunno, I thought better that than him accidentally drinking vodka.

CointreauVersial · 16/05/2015 21:55

Lalsy, he's actually quite scornful of friends who allow alcohol to get the better of them (there have been a few instances) so fingers crossed he'll pay back our trust. And if he doesn't, well, it won't happen again.

MollyAir · 16/05/2015 22:25

Crem, you've finished Her before I have! I'm savouring it slowly - I really like the descriptions of domestic drudgery: they make me feel better about doing it myself day in, day out. I'll report back on what I think of the denouement.

On re-sits: dd is comforting herself with the thought that "Re-sits are available". This makes sense.

I love fairs, but may have to wait for grandchildren before I can justify going to them. Even the cake stalls are no good because we are gluten free. Still, country shows are similar, and have horses.

herbaceous · 17/05/2015 07:25

Oh dearie me. Very civilised bbq next door, DS was a delight. Then DP went out with his gang for a birthday party, got in at 4, and has been up and down to the bathroom communing with Terry the Toilet ever since. Looks like a day of childcare for me...

DS has been invited to a party, but it's for FIVE HOURS. I had been going to pick him up after a couple, using a Daddy Activity as an excuse, but that looks like it's out the window. So a five-hour party it is. I expect I can dump n run, and get some work done.

bigTillyMint · 17/05/2015 08:15

Herbs that sounds like a major resultWink

Wedding was lovely - in an old pub/hotel in a market town, sun was shining, bride looked beautiful, emotional speeches (esp groom who is DHs colleague), lots of little children but all really well behaved. Met the wife of another of DHs colleagues who is lovely and also other colleagues (he's only been there 10? years!)
Unfortunately my phone rang just as I was dropping off - turned out to be another DM accidentally pressing her panic button. Then car alarm going off at 7.30 this morning - so much for a relaxing night in the hotel!

Re drinking at parties, we have done the same as you CV with DD. Doesn't stop them necking the voddy boys bring though Wink

motherinferior · 17/05/2015 09:49

Deffo dump and run, herbs.

Major computer buggering up here which is causing mucho domestic aggro. I am sure I can draw a veil over the picture of Gritted Male Teeth.

herbaceous · 17/05/2015 11:09

DP still in bed. I suppose I should check if he's choked on his own vomit. I have cleaned the bathroom in an aggressive manner, but left the toilet for him to deal with. Have cleaned kitchen, done dot-to-dots, and made a Star Wars Lego item. Bored now.
