Ooh, have just seen the purply colour is meant to be a winter colour... may have accidentally ordered Blush

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 24/03/2017 12:56

I have just see these boots... I think I may be in love...

Redact · 24/03/2017 14:27

Hi I was diagnosed as a jewel winter through HOC a couple of years ago. I've always intended to go back and have the style day but never quite got round to it! Those who have, do you feel it was worth it?

Redact · 24/03/2017 14:29

Nice boots sarah

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 24/03/2017 17:51

I think so Redact - it depends what you want to get out of it. For me it was more about explaining why things did or didn't work for me, rather than telling me what I should wear. But it was helpful in that it helped me to see that some styles were never going to work for me so I could just not bother with them... but I'm a natural classic which is pretty boring. OTOH if you were a dramatic or something you probably wouldn't feel the need for the style day! And I also found the bit where they look at your proportions really helpful - so what length skirts work well on your frame, where to wear a belt (hips, or waist?) and so on. Maybe I was just a bit clueless but it was really useful to have those kind of things explained. It wasn't cheap but I think the idea (like the colours) is that you save money by not making expensive mistakes afterwards. And it was fun!

Redact · 24/03/2017 20:13

Thank you Sarah that is so helpful. I do struggle with what shapes suit me, especially dresses and skirts. I know I look better in skinny jeans but I struggle with trousers. I have a few pairs from jcrew that suit me and that's it really! For work I need a more tailored look and that is not easy to find. It would make shopping easier if I knew what styles to look for. I think I will go ahead and book a session as I felt I got a lot out of the colours day. Thank you for your advice!

mimiasovitch · 25/03/2017 12:27

Redact - I loved the style day so much. It clarified things for me that I sort of knew but couldn't really put my finger on. I don't follow everything to the letter though, as it's not always practical. I'm a romantic with a hint of classic, and according to the guidelines I should be wearing tons of accessories, and trousers are not good for me. I knew that anyway, but for my daily super muddy dog walk, bangles, makeup and a big skirt are not ideal! I should probably consider brushing my hair though Grin

Redact · 26/03/2017 10:01

Thank you for your reply mimia ha yes floaty skirts, bangles and muddy dog walks are not a good mix! I think I have lost my way with style and it's always jeans at weekends and trousers for work. Having done a wee bit of research I suspect I am a mix of classic and romantic too but it would be good to have it confirmed and come away with the knowledge of what suits me. It would make shopping easier that's for sure!

Nice to see this thread again.

Has anyone seen these tops? The colours look very wintry and intense...

mimiasovitch · 13/04/2017 16:40

Hello winters. I'm in the market for a new lipstick or three. I'm willing to spend up to about £25. I wear the same ones all the time, and fancy a change. I have plenty of reds, but am in need of a berry shade, and maybe a pink. As a sultry winter I can't do too fuschia (except when is blisteringly sunny). The older threads were a great source of needless spending for me, so enable away folks.

Dozer · 13/04/2017 16:48

Ooh lipstick. I like MAC Ruby Woo and Urban Decay Catfight, but that one is v pink.

My budget doesn't run to diane von furstenburg unfortunately Mamia, do like the top though!

Apart from the great wide colour and basic style range, Kettlewell can be v blah IMO and almost all the stuff is clingy and synthetic.

picked up a couple of cheap, fun summer T shirts in Mango this week.

Boden is crap for winter colours IMO but there are some black winter dresses in the sale for anyone keen to buy out of season!

Mamia15 · 13/04/2017 19:01

Maybelline divine wine is a lovely berry coloured lipstick - not too shiny/pearly either.

I also have the burg

Mamia15 · 13/04/2017 19:02

(I also have the Maybelline burgundy blush but this is quite strong and rather vampish - ok when lightly used with vaseline but otherwise best for evenings.

mimiasovitch · 23/04/2017 19:53

I bought Divine Wine and love it. I also bought Revlon Crush (that's a chubby stickalike) and Nars Audacious in Fanny. I love them all. The former is great as it's very similar to an M and S one I had called (I think) Ruby, which I loved, bought 2 of just in case and lost both. Naturally, it's now discontinued. Fanny is a deep pink on the blue side. I thought it'd be a bit too cool on, but it's amazing and I get so many compliments.

building2017 · 23/04/2017 20:40

OMG you're all back. Squee! Feels like ages since I had a good winter thread.

Jewel winter, dramatic gamine.

jewelwinter · 30/04/2017 09:39

Firstly, thank you to those of you who haveposted on these threads. It's been ever so helpful.

I'm a jewel winter and currently have ash highlights in my medium brown hair. I am looking for a change and wondered if any other winters have the same colour hair and if so what colour highlights do you have? Thank you!

Mamia15 · 30/04/2017 11:12

I have dark medium brown hair in a choppy/wavy bob a la Lauren Conrad and have recently started having ombre style highlights in caramel. Its a little warm for my colouring really but I am loving the change - I don't have these too close to my face which helps I hope....

The plan is eventually to go paler the more my hair becomes grey/white...

jewelwinter · 30/04/2017 12:10

Thanks mamia. I'm a fake winter so have tried caramel before. You're right it's quite warm. I liked it though. Having an ombre style is an idea though. I'd like to bring in a jewel colour truth be told. Don't think it's professional enough a look though.

jewelwinter · 30/04/2017 12:13

Love this

Mamia15 · 30/04/2017 15:00

These are gorgeous - I think though with pale purples, you would need to bleach your hair quite a bit first. Much more suitable for Winters than caramel ;)

mimiasovitch · 30/04/2017 15:46

Winters - I have issues. Looking in my bag for a lipstick this is what I uncovered. Please bear in mind the the two chubby sticks in grandest grape are pretty much identical to the revlon crayon in crush. And the two L'Oréal ones are also the same. And I post on here asking for suggestions....??

Way back in February we were talking about dyeing things. I have a couple of metres of a gorgeous cotton sateen from which I wanted to make a pencil skirt with a flounce in the back. The fabric was just a bit off for me though, a bit too warm a red. On someone's advice I've over dyed it with China blue and it's amazing. I would never have thought to try that, and it's now perfect. The best I can describe is going from kettlewell's poppy to crimson.
Any other fabulous dyeing tricks out there? I just bought a lightweight viscose for a wrap too, but it's more cream than white. I've dyed it with ocean blue, and it's lovely, just more of a summer shade. I'd love a proper royal blue. (Of course I could have returned it but that's far too easy).
