Wardrobe gaps

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/04/2015 12:15

Have just had a cull of my wardrobe and a big sort out. Do this five or six times a year.

The 'gaps' that I have identified are:

  • a black or grey silk button down shirt (actually a silk/cotton mix would be even better)
  • a perfect black and white striped t-shirt
  • a white summer skirt, full, midi length, maybe broderie anglaise
  • the perfect pair of summer shorts - maybe black, grey or denim - must be cotton and need to be slim fitted on the waist and hops, no puffy chino shapes or belting or anything
  • a cotton jersey jacket of some sort - grey, maybe biker shape. I thought I'd found a perfect one at Gap, but it was pretty poor quality irl, and far too big/long. I need neat and fitted.

What are your wardrobe gaps? Shall we try to help each other find something perfect? :)

I've just had a mini cull, been a bit ruthless as I thought I wore nearly everything but realised I actually don't and bravely got rid Smile

Need;
Pair of long flat black boots (will have to wait until end of summer)
Blue shirt but not denim- perfect fit is a must-no gaping!
Couple of thin jumpers that can be layered
long sleeved white top} probably H&M
long sleeved black top} ditto^

that's it,
I'll have a look but take ages even finding/buying anything for me these days,
I've got so fussy and hate traipsing for perfect none existent item !

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/04/2015 13:21

This blue shirt is nice irl, but quite long.

Remembered something else I need - not a gap but an upgrade: black skinny jeans. I usually buy the M&S ones but they seem to be fading ridiculously quickly.

Can I ask Remus how tall you are and what dress size you are in case I want to steal some tips :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/04/2015 18:06

I'm 5'2 and a 12. I am currently sporting leggings and dp's old t-shirt (just in case you still want some style tips!). Grin

Remus have you tried gap for the shorts? I love their shorts - I think they are called khakis, lots of colours

noddyholder · 26/04/2015 18:23

I have done this too the last couple of weeks I need a jacket black shortish and not biker that is fairly stark due to boobs. Also a silk shirt in a deep colour pink or green loose ish but not long :)

hauntedhenry · 26/04/2015 18:26

I'm thinking about ordering the hush Marseille shorts. They look great on the model, not so sure about on me!

Thanks, Bill. Will have a look. H&M sometimes good for cheapo cotton shorts too.

Noddy - red silk

I really like that! Esp the no collar Thanks Will take a look Tuesday when near to Zara

Tweedledeewantstobealaydee · 26/04/2015 18:58

Hmm, not very similar then. I am 5'8", size 14 with mahoosive boobs. Permanently looking for tops that flatter and reduce the size of them. Any ideas please :)

mrsmeerkat · 26/04/2015 19:01

So have just bought a white and a floral popover shirt from gap. White vest for under them from zara. Two sports trouser (smarter than they sound and stretchy for being with the dc)

Good quality sandals with support in a tan colour.

Two summer skirts from white stuff

I could do with a new spring summer type of rain jacket but I love my old one so could love without one

BallroomWithNoBalls · 26/04/2015 19:07

That red silk shirt is gorgeous Remus.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 26/04/2015 19:09

Remus - Tesco have really good cotton summer shorts, I have a couple of pairs that have lasted two summers and I saw they had more in this year.

I have the Hush Marseille ones (got for £5 at the sample sale) and they're nice, v comfy - work best with a reasonably flat tummy though I think with the stretchy waistband.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/04/2015 19:25

Thanks, Ballroom. We haven't got a Tesco with clothes near us though.

Cba with Hush - just want to try on in a shop and buy if I like it, instead of faffing with ordering and returns.

The Gap ones look worth a gander.

Meercat - which sandals did you buy, or is that a current gap?

Has anybody seen this Jigsaw jacket irl? It looks a bit tatty and as if it needs an iron, so not feeling v confident about it!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/04/2015 19:31

Thanks, Noddy, but none of the colours I wanted.

Lots of workwear gaps in my wardrobe:

Culottes - noddy how do those black H&M ones come up, sizewise? Saw on another thread that you have them and I like the look, but often find H&M trousers unforgiving on me.
The mythical closed toe shoe that is elegant, comfortable and won't give me sweaty foot rash Hmm
Silk shirts (missed the Uniqlo reduction again, like a twat)
Cardigans that aren't black - I'm thinking teal, fuschia, emerald, to jazz up all my boring wintery black/navy/grey clothes
A couple of dresses, a couple of skirts

Non-workwear, I need sandals and lots of them. I'm not making the mistake of wearing one pair of Birkies all summer, my nose has barely recovered from last time Blush

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/04/2015 19:38

M&S had black culottes in store yesterday.

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/04/2015 19:40

Green silk

BillStickersIsInnocent · 26/04/2015 19:45

Remus I have a jigsaw jacket similar to that, same fabric but in khaki. It's not exactly sharp tailoring and does need ironing before each wear, but is flattering and well made.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/04/2015 19:51

Thanks, Bill. Not looking for tailoring - basically want a slightly nicer version of a hoody!
