Just wondering what the main 'staple' products you use are for daily work/home life??

Mine are:
Nivea soft moisturiser
Dior star foundation put on with the backstage blender
Benefit big beautiful eye shadow 1 & 2 (no liner shadow)
Max factor masterpiece in black
Benefit hoola bronzer
Benefit watts up highlighter
M and s raspberry lip butter

Looks quite a lot Blush I'm only in NHS (mental health)..... Not a make up counter! Grin

SuperFly what navy mascara do you recommend?
Is Chantecaille worth the money?
It is sooo expensive.

2Monkeysmum · 19/04/2015 14:25

On a general day I wear:

Elemis flash balm
Mac foundation, concealer, powder and lipstick
Collection 2000 felt tip it's amazing (have all colour the dark blue is my current favourite) along my top lashes
kohl eyeliner along my bottom lashes at the moment a no7 dark blue one
Mac blusher
No 7 mascara the newest one in black
And sometimes clinque chubby stick in melon on top

Iv been wearing full make up pretty much every day since my early teens and raiding my big sisters make up bag. It doesn't change how I look it's improves how I look. I like to look nice so shoot me ha

Twitchcoco · 19/04/2015 14:52

It has taken me a full year of trying to find my HG foundation and a make up look that is 'me only better'. When I turned 50 last year I vowed to sort out my skin, hair, make up and wardrobe..

YSL ink fusion foundation
YSL touché eclat on the dark lines from my tear ducts down and a tad on my cupid's bow (ooh, get me!)
Lancôme hypnose mascara
No eyeliner, makes me look old
Bourjois blusher
HoC lipstick over carex balm

shadydelta · 19/04/2015 16:35

I adore makeup but can be very lazy and not bother to do it however iv a new office job so need to make more effort iv very sensitive skin and get breakouts of dry eczema patches so im always afraid wearing it will cause another flareup. At the mo daily favourites are
e45 face wash and face cream then if skins ok ill wear
loreal primer (photo shoot or something)
Soap and glory hocus focus
boots no7 bb cream
boots no7 powder bronzer or cream blush (have loads of bronzers/blushers im osessed) also love benefit bronzer
soap and glory eye crayon with the blendy thing on the end
boots no7 sensitive black mascara
avon eyebrow kit in brown.

can anyone recommend good face products for dry sensitive skin. Someone said bare minerals stuff is really good? I really want that gorgeous dewy look doesnt everyonelol

vintagepink · 19/04/2015 16:47

Daily 5 min routine if leaving the house:

No 7 primer
Stiler tinted moisturiser
Daniel Sandler blusher
ELF eyebrow gel
Lip stain bought in US
Any cheap colourless lip balm
ELF powder
BB gel eyeliner

On days at home I don't bother putting any make up on. When going out in the evenings I use a better foundation, concealer and Urban Decay eyeshadow plus mascara, but otherwise it's the same. I'm a creature of habit and tend to stick to the same products until they have run out rather than have lots of different colours of things.

SunsetSongster · 19/04/2015 19:34

Currently

Benefit Hello Flawless Powder Foundation
Bourjois little round pot shadow
Whichever brown kohl pencil I find first
Clarins be long mascara
Clarins double fix mascara on top
Clinique airbrush concealer as needed
Revlon cream blush if I feel like it

It seems a lot but I can do it in about 3 minutes. I've lately been experimenting with having make up free days at work for the first time in ages as I hate feeling like I have to wear it (though I do like how I look with it on).

SuperFlyHigh · 19/04/2015 20:07

Holly

To be honest now there aren't many navy mascaras - Chanel used to do one and so did Laura Mercier but I think maybe not now…

L'OrealVolum Million Luminzer Blue eyes (now only on Amazon or Ebay) is good for bringing out blue eyes.

Chantecaille Real Skin used to be my foundation - a sort of gel formula and Mood one of their blushers - so great my nana and mum got the same shade! I found their eyeshadows didn't give the colour I needed but very soft. So yes and no re the money but I haven't used it for years!

To be honest with you my local dept store Elys only stocks Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier and the other brands Dior etc… Chanel is in Debenhams. Nars is in Space NK with By Terry etc… but that's a walk/bus ride into Wimbledon Village.

I save my MAC, Shu Uemura, Pixi etc for trips into the West End or Kingston! (for MAC anyway). Stila has started again whereas they shut down when I was younger. I do love Urban Decay and Smashbox (mostly the latter for primer) but again that's for West End or Debenhams/Boots in Bromley does them…

I sound an addict but i'm a novice compared to those who like Illamasqua etc… Grin I just love makeup and colour!

SuperFlyHigh · 19/04/2015 20:11

oh Holly - off top of my head YSL Faux Cils do a navy mascara - I was on the fence about Faux Cils for a while but its really very good.

To be perfectly honest if I found a HE foundation and mascara I loved (only because the finish can be better) I'd switch - only recently I've bought and found ok foundations/mascara on Boots 3 for 2 deals (the 'cheap') brands. My local Boots is such a PITA (guess it saves me money) as it only does the cheaper brands…. grrr!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 19/04/2015 22:17

Yep faux cils have navy and also a lovely burgundy one.

TheCraicDealer · 20/04/2015 00:18

Totally agree with what Otille said, and the comment about "colouring in but on your face". Few things bring me more pleasure than shading in my (already tattooed on) eyebrows. I just love the act of putting on my makeup.

Everyday Face
NARS Sheer Glow foundation
NARS creamy concealer
MAC Mineralise Skinfinish powder
Anastasia Brow Pomade
NARS blusher in Douceur (now discontinued, weep)
MAC paintpot in Ochre to prime my eyelid
Eyeshadow from NARS, Urban Decay or MAC
Charlotte Tilbury mascara (v. good, would recommend)
NARS eyeliner in Nightclubbing

Weekend Face (when I can be arsed)
Too Faced BB cream
Too Faced Candlelight powder
NARS blush in orgasm
Benefit Brow Whiz
Same choice of eyeshadow
MAC eyeliner in Teddy
Charlotte Tilbury mascara

Yes I've clearly spent a fucking fortune. Some people have ponies or light aircraft, I have my makeup. I will happily go out without it on to do shopping and that, but I enjoy wearing it and catching sight of myself in the mirror/shiny surfaces and thinking, "those eyebrows are on point!"

hollyisalovelyname · 20/04/2015 07:25

Thank you SuperFly and KenDodd.

Turquoiseblue · 20/04/2015 07:30

Current faves are

Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser
Moo goo facial oil
Nivea eye cream
Avene face serum

Nars foundation - but it s almost time of year to swap for a tinted moisturiser (while other tread ....)

Nars bronzer / Bobbi brown blush
Max factor mascara

Naked 2 / mac eyeshadow (if I m applying)

Lottiegal · 20/04/2015 09:36

Where does everyone get ideas for make up? I don't really buy women's mags these days, so I'm guessing I'm missing out! Feel a bit out of date in my make up bag!

SuperFlyHigh · 20/04/2015 10:38

Lottie - I actually get ideas from counters like Bobbi Brown, MAC etc (but don't slavishly follow their seasonal pallettes). I also tend to ask especially at Bobbi Brown (they do a makeup bag refresh and 5 minute makeovers etc) for new ideas/products or how to use something as you don't have to buy with them (the other counters you feel you have to buy, I think...).

Makeupalley is a good site for ideas but beware because you can get addicted and spend a fortune!

I do sometimes buy Look Again (I think the name) or Reveal and look on their beauty pages. Essentials did have some nice beauty pages too. I tend to avoid celeb mags with Rita Ora, Kim K etc as their looks aren't mine. Khloe (I think) Kardashian I saw had a contouring her face tutorial or something - she does it very well!

frankietwospots · 20/04/2015 11:55

I get loads of ideas from these threads and also from Sali Hughes (Guardian) and Lisa Eldridge (fab YouTube videos).

Carpaccio · 20/04/2015 12:10

Skincare:
Pixi Glow Tonic
RoC Hydra+
Clinique City Block

Makeup:
Estee Lauder Double Wear Light
Mac Mineralize Skin Finish Natural, Mac Select Sheer Pressed or Guerlain Meteorites.
Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks cream eye shadow (Moonlight, Rosegold and Copper are my favourites)
L'Oreal Beauty Tubes mascara or Estee Lauder Double Wear mascara
Mac powder blusher
Dior Rouge Baume

TheCraicDealer · 20/04/2015 12:19

I get most of my ideas from blogs, my three favourites being:-

Laura Louise Beauty – she’s a UK based make-up artist who isn’t afraid to give off about crap products and does fabulous things with eyeshadow. She did an interesting piece on pyramid/commission-based selling schemes which was MN-ish.

A Little Pop of Coral – This woman is from England but moved to New York in the Autumn. She does thorough reviews of all the snazzy new products which launch in the US months before the UK and compares the products to brands we’re familiar with here.

BuyNow/BlogLater – All-time favourite. English, lives in Dubai, very glam, hilarious. Any fashion/beauty blogger that can laugh at themselves enough to use phrases like, “jizz coloured lips” and “It was murky chocolate poo-brown shade which is apt because I thought I was the shit when I wore it” is always going to get my vote.

HeyheyheyGoodbye · 20/04/2015 13:02

Everyday, speedy routine:

Skin79 BB cream (spf25)
Benefit Fine One One on cheeks
Bare Minerals Illuminating Veil
Guerlain MaxiLash in Moka
Benebalm

Very simple, very quick.

thiskiwicanfly · 20/04/2015 19:26

Currently using for work:
Garnier moisturiser tube from the supermarket
Elizabeth Arden Mineral powder foundation
Elizabeth Arden Blush
Shiseido felt pen style liquid eyeliner
Shiseido eyeshadow
Smashbox eyebrow powder/wax set
Designer Brands mascara
Elizabeth Arden lipliner in Red Door Red
Elizabeth Arden lipstick in Red Door Red

The lips are because I decided to do Red My Lips month and I've had a chance to talk to lots of people about it when they've commented on my lipstick.

In the weekends I swap for Garnier BB cream, a slick of eyeliner and mascara, a touch of cream blush by World Organic (I think) and some Burts Bees tinted lip balm.

No makeup, especially if I forget lipstick or mascara, makes people ask if I'm ill (another naturally very pale person here)

SuperFlyHigh · 20/04/2015 21:29

heyhey think i want to try your routine.

any ideas about warmer foundations? when your skin has a bit of a light tan? I am still using my lighter ones and bronzer on top, should i buy a darker shade?

findingmyfeet12 · 23/04/2015 19:19

I get makeup ideas from Sali Hughes and Lisa Eldrige as well. I love watching both of their videos on YouTube as well as reading Sali's Guardian column.

Sali recently did a great interview with Marian Keyes which is on YouTube.
