Just wondering what the main 'staple' products you use are for daily work/home life??

Mine are:
Nivea soft moisturiser
Dior star foundation put on with the backstage blender
Benefit big beautiful eye shadow 1 & 2 (no liner shadow)
Max factor masterpiece in black
Benefit hoola bronzer
Benefit watts up highlighter
M and s raspberry lip butter

Looks quite a lot Blush I'm only in NHS (mental health)..... Not a make up counter! Grin

also pressone - some people have spidery lashes and too much eyeliner (a la Kate Middleton but I do mine like hers too sometimes!).

some people don't realise eg that navy mascara/eyeliner actually makes you look less tired... (tip for free there). I've had tons of comments on my blue eyes brought out with navy mascara... not that I wear it every day.

I do get that sometimes you can look a bit 'painted doll' (been called that before) but F that! It's my face and I can put what I like on it within reason.

some women don't suit makeup some do, some like it, some don't - horses for courses is what I say. Some like the overblown false eyelash stuff some don't! If it's not harming you why comment?! It's how it makes you feel and look not anyone else!

Thurlow · 17/04/2015 17:23

I'm confused. How is lipstick and eyeliner ok, but foundation and powder isn't? It doesn't do anything different to your skin than what lipstick does to your lips.

Part of it is personal taste, surely? I find lipstick on me to look very OTT and I only wear it on high days and holidays. But I'd always wear foundation and powder. I imagine if you do it the other way around, that's why foundation seems OTT.

I would hugely argue that changing your hair or having your eyebrows reshaped has a far bigger impact on the look of your facial structure than day to day make up does.

Of course it's entirely personal taste whether you like wearing make up or not. But it just seems a little strange to take the angle that haircuts and lipstick are fine, but foundation isn't Confused

Pressone, I look at women absolutely wearing no make up at all and I generally think... Shame, they can't be arsed any more.

Harsh, but true.

Make up isn't about covering stuff up, it's about enhancing what we have.

pressone
I wear a full face of slap because I don't like looking tired and worn. I also like flirting and being admired for being pretty (amoungst other things). I enjoy having glamour in my life.

OopTheShard · 17/04/2015 18:20

Sunscreen
Bourjois CC cream
Cream eye pencil to disguise my tired, red rimmed eyes Grin
Loreal telescopic mascara
Vaseline rosy lips balm

If I want to make slightly more effort:
Any old cheapo kohl eye pencil
Ultraglow bronzer
Nars illuminator
Mac Spice lipliner & Clinique chubby sticks in various shades on lips

TeaAddict235 · 17/04/2015 18:39

days when I have time or somewhere "important":
facial cream,
Isadora foundation,
any eyeshadow to hand,
Revlon black or navy blue eyeliner,
black mascara,
blusher,
nivea lip balm and any lipstick to hand,

town days:
facial cream (currently Garnier Moisture rich or Aldi's Lacura, then Sun lotion)
eyeshadow,
l'oreal eyeliner,
black mascara
any lip balm or lipstick on the go (usually in a pocket Grin )

Voila!

CatHammock · 17/04/2015 18:55

Daily wear:

Mac BB cream
Benefit Boi-ing concealer
Eyeshadow - usually something out of the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette, though I'm growing fond of the eyeko fat eye sticks, proper colouring in for your face feeling.
Eyeliner - I've some terrible number of eyeliners, and the colour and style depends on today's eyeshadow. Ciate double lines is quite nice, as is bare minerals.
Mascara - currently either Benefit roller lash or They're real.
Lipstick - Bite lipstick in Fig or date, or rhubarb for much redder lips, or some variety of lipsalve.

Full-face, I'll use primer, foundation, powder and blush. There'll probably be more shimmery/glittery stuff used too. Main difference is that I'll spend more than the 5-10 minutes I'd spend on my daily makeup. As to why I bother with makeup - it's fun and I like the effect, same as how I like how I look in green clothes more than yellow or red, but I'd be unlikely to choose to wear a skirt or have my hair cut above my shoulders - it's not my thing.

heylilbunny · 17/04/2015 19:21

Why do people have tattoos? Why do men have a goatee or trim their mustache? Wear after-shave, buy new clothes?

People everywhere have altered and enhanced themselves in various ways for many reasons - pleasure, entertainment, to attract a mate, to show status, that they belong to a group, nation or tribe.

I personally would be disappointed in my husband suddenly neglected his appearance and no longer tried to stay fit and attractive. Unless due to illness or depression (in fact neglecting your appearance is a symptom of depression) I would feel the fun and joy and sexual frisson in our relationship was going down hill. I certainly didn't go out looking for an unattractive blob who didn't care what he looked like to marry. Who would? And I would say we're very laid back and pretty low on the vanity scale. We certainly wouldn't be mistaken for a trendy couple in a million years.

Appearance sends signals to people in all cultures and societies and is a form of communication.

teejayem · 17/04/2015 19:25

Sorry pressone but evidently you didn't read why I choose to wear what I listed. It's got nothing to do with my facial structure, which is perfectly good, it has more to do with the appearance of my skin, reduction of horrendous dark circles caused by a long commute, long office hours, pasty complexion under fluoro office lights, and the imminent wrinkles from a high stress job.

Way to pick on the pregnant lady though! - I actually enjoy buying and wearing makeup like many others on this thread.

damepeanutbutter · 17/04/2015 19:25

Any old moisturiser to hand, nothing special.
A bit of black eyeliner
Benefit Rosie Tint on lips and cheeks

And that's if I remember.....

Have never worn foundation or primer. Would not know where to start if I went shopping for some.

I'm in my mid 50s and am always being told what wonderful skin I have and how unlined it is. My eye lashes are still dark and thick. People guessing my age usually say 45-47. I don't need to wear a lot of make up, so I don't. I never wear nail polish nor do much with my nails. I do get my hair coloured every six weeks, professionally. Luckily I have inherited good skin from my ma who is 90 and when I show people her photo they gasp and think she is in her late 60s. Fingers crossed Grin

I look at women absolutely wearing no make up at all and I generally think... Shame, they can't be arsed any more."

Yup, I mostly can't be arsed - have too much else to do than spend time in Boots or in front of a mirror. It's not just the putting it on, it's the taking it off! But I do look at women who spend the time looking gorgeous and admire that they have got the energy and how lovely they look. I just haven't got that energy. But I do love me the way I am (although a few pounds lighter would be even better) just as you all love you the way you are when you are 'done'.

SoOverItNow · 17/04/2015 19:31

Eucerin moisturiser
Bare Minerals
Loreal eyeshadow
Bougious blusher
Maybelline great lash mascara

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/04/2015 19:40

Pressone - nothing you've listed changes facial structure, it's. It cosmetic surgery!

No, no one needs a bra even if your boobs are down to your knees, we wear them because it's socially acceptable . Tribes in the jungle wearing nothing but a loin cloth seem to cope just fine. We wear them because it's the done thing and I speak as someone of a similar size to you.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/04/2015 19:40

It's not cosmetic surgery , that should read.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 17/04/2015 19:44

Ordinary day, Dr Hauschka Tinted Day Cream, Laura Mercier Eye Canvas, Stila blush cream, ELF Mineral powder, MUA curl mascara, MUA Power Pout, whatever eyebrow grooming product I'm currently obsessing over.

Extraordinary day/night - The above, with Stila Natural Finish foundation, Laura Mercier eyeshadow, lipliner, eyeliner (wet eye shadow with brush).

I always wear perfume, but depends what takes my fancy on the day. Currently favouring Lyn Harris La flour for daytime, and Midnight Bakula for evening.

My hair looks bloody awful at the moment though.

I love a good make up thread. I also smile at the inevitable 'Me? Soap. Water. Never touched make up in my life' replies. Makes me want to go to a thread about what car everyone recommends and announcing that I don't drive. Grin

ladydepp · 17/04/2015 19:47

Everyday makeup:

Clinique all about eyes
Laura mercier oil free primer
Chanel Aqua Vitalumiere foundation (love this!)
Mac prism blusher or Guerlain bronzer or Benefit benetint
Dark brown eye pencil, maybe Topshop or Lancôme
Mascara - L'oreal Voluminous or other volume adder
Loose powder if I'm shiny
Laura mercier bare lips lipstick (this is fab!)

(This takes 3 minutes max!)

If going out:

Kevyn Aucoin black eyeliner, smudged
More mascara and maybe darker lipstick

FrugalFashionista · 17/04/2015 19:57

A quick response to Pressone. Contouring is super fashionable right now. It came back in a big way a few years ago. When I walked into Sephora, they had a full aisle of contouring products and gave clients lessons. It probably has something to do with Kim Kardashian who is a major fan and the reprise of 1970s fashions.

I do a lot of really serious stuff at work. I enjoy the lighter side of my life here, discussing lipsticks and foundations. I also enjoy playing with makeup. And I enjoy looking good. Does that sum it up? Wink

SevenEleven · 17/04/2015 20:00

Every day products are:
Bio oil
Tinted SPF moisturiser from Avon
Clinique concealer
Loose powder from l'oreal
Avon Luxe Bronzer or Bourjois cream blusher

Elizabeth Arden eight hour lip balm

coldofhands · 17/04/2015 20:23

Moisturiser - currently using a caudalie sample which is a bit nothingy
Alpha H sunscreen

On quiet days either just moisturiser and sunscreen or

Bourjois cream blush in the peachy colour
Lipstick Queen in Jean Queen

Eminado · 17/04/2015 20:24

Am sooo intrigued by this Dior star foundation! Do they do colours for black people?

Discovered Clinique All about eyes concealer and can get away with that and Estée Lauder BB Double Wear. When I have time it's Bobbi Brown saddle on my brows and her lighter eye shadow on lids with midnight shade as liner. Bene tint on lips. X

Judydreamsofhorses · 17/04/2015 20:55

I love makeup - I'm rarely without red lipstick, and I'm sure people would think something was up with me if I was at work barefaced. I also like the ritual of putting it on of a morning, and taking it off at night.

My usual face is:

Smashbox or Dior primer
YSL foundation or Chanel tinted moisturiser
Mac or Nars blusher
Guerlain Meteorites
Nude eyeshadow
Bobbi Brown mascara
Red lipstick - one of 50,000 - or occasionally bright pink
Benefit Browzings

If going out I'll do cat's eye flicks, and proper eyeshadow, usually Urban Decay or Mac.

Right now I have no makeup on at all, and look perfectly fine. With makeup on I look fresher, brighter, more polished and just better.
