Ashamed of my beauty product hoard!

IPokeBadgers · 01/03/2015 15:04

I have spent some time this morning trying to sort and tidy my beauty and toiletries cupboard and I am actually feeling veryShock andBlush at the sheer volume of stuff that I have, much of it lovely and expensive and unopened!

I reckon it could take me a couple of years to get through it all!

Buying make up as well as lovely bath and shower stuff seems to have become my go to/default pick me up when I want to impulse buy...... but seeing the hoard has brought me down.

anyone else like this and are there any threads that would encourage me to stop buying stuff and use all the lovely products that I have?

please tell me I am not the only person like this?

I had an epic fail yesterday, went into Boots intending to purchase two specific things I needed foundation and city block. I ended up being given a clinique bonus time gift tin with about seven products in it, none of which I would have purchased. It will be added to the pile...

Nabootique · 31/07/2015 10:06

Don't feel bad atticus. I went into M&S after a few five social pints drinks (ours is open very late) and came out with a sack bag of totally non essential skincare.

dogdaydisaster · 31/07/2015 10:23

nabootique my elemis TSV that mayhave just arrived today Blush was the reult of drunk QVCing

Nabootique · 31/07/2015 11:09

It's not our fault, dogday! once spent £300 on Cult Beauty when pissed

IPokeBadgers · 31/07/2015 11:45

Dogday I managed to resist that QVC Elemis TSV....had to be most stern with myself as still have a load of Elemis in the cupboard....first world problems eh!

Nabootique - ?300 on beauty products when pissed? I can't decide if I am shocked or impressed! Grin

Although it is much better than just buying random shite: am ashamed to admit that I hold on to my copy of the Mavericks Greatest Hits CD as a salutary reminder of what I am capable of when drunk and in charge of a credit card....

I know. I feel the same way about it. When it arrived I felt a real mixture of emotions: pride, guilt, fear, joy. Haha! In my defence, they were really, really nice products.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 31/07/2015 14:18

atticus, I have the same tin. Mine has a lilac lipstick and purple and champagne eyeshadow duo. Wtf? Is it a Halloween dressing up kit?!

dogdaydisaster · 31/07/2015 15:22

I used u a bottle of shampoo this morniong, herbal essences I think. Nothing special. I also managed to palm off a bottle of perfum I don't like to my mum and have given dd a ren evercalm cleanser. I like it but it's not doing anyhting special for me and dd uses it so it saves me buying her one.

The elemis TSV shower gel and body lotion will go straight into my holiday bag.

dogdaydisaster · 31/07/2015 15:25

Nabootique that's impressive drunk shopping. I did $250 in Sephora in Florida last year sober Blush

ememem84 · 31/07/2015 17:15

I love drunk shopping. Dh and I now do all our Christmas shopping after our pre Christmas boozy lunch. Can get all the family's presents done in about an hour. Winning.

I might have had a heart attack today to find out that the nice clarins serum I used up this week costs almost £70. I was going to repurchase. But have added to my wish list for birthdays. Eeek

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 31/07/2015 17:24

I never buy on QVC, the postage is outrageous.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 31/07/2015 17:25

Not enough booze in the world.

daimbardiva · 31/07/2015 19:04

Yet another body shop empty here (I am very boring compared to most of you on here). Vit E night cream - I do really like this, but keen to try something new just for variety do moving onto an aldi Lacura one

ememem84 · 31/07/2015 21:08

I'm currently using a body shop peach moisturiser/body butter.
I like it. It moisturises. But also makes my skin smell like peach yoghurt (specifically activia).

I'm not sure if I like that part.

FrugalFashionista · 01/08/2015 08:57

Finished the Missha First Treatment Essence spray! It's a fermented yeast-based product, I prepped my face with it in the morning. It felt pleasant and my face has been glowy and younger-looking - even my critical mother has noticed - but this might be a net results I made when I switched to Korean products.

legohurtswhenyoustandonit · 01/08/2015 17:35

Another empty for me - an ancient bottle of Body Shop Ananya body lotion I found in a cupboard. I think my tastes have changed over the years. I now prefer scents that are less musky and more fresh and fruity. I'm now using a l'occitane lemon scented one and like the scent much more.

I've also fallen off the wagon and bought small tubs of hand cream and moisturiser. They were from a small independent retailer that I don't visit very often and I wanted to buy them so I could try them at some point. I didn't really need them though.

FrugalFashionista · 01/08/2015 17:55

I retrieved a bunch of toiletries that I had left some years ago at my mother's. I thought that was the responsible thing to do Confused All of them are good staples - a nice shampoo, hairspray, mousse, facewash and some Colorstay liquid foundation. But this means that my cupboards are filled to capacity and that I won't need any new hair products for ages - a year or two perhaps?

dogdaydisaster · 01/08/2015 22:18

I finished a pot of elemis cleansing balm last night. I have a replacement though because I love it. I also used up a hotel shower gel, so still making progress. TBH its makeup that I will struggle with.

GingerLemonTea · 02/08/2015 11:13

Travel size shampoo, conditioner & body wash finished.
John Frieda blonde conditioning sachet also used up. No repurchases.

daimbardiva · 02/08/2015 16:52

Finished label m hair soufflé - I actually really liked this but won't be repurchasing as I feel it's pricey and not noticeably better than much cheaper similar products. Of course I have several of these waiting in the wings to try!!!

IPokeBadgers · 03/08/2015 09:02

Tossed the very dregs of a bottle of Simple Cleanser....was absolutely ancient and i was just in a bit of a mood yesterday, so out it went. Probably won't repurchase any time in the next few years as i think I have plenty to be going on with.

Also tempted to buck out a quarter of a bottle of LOreal Skin Perfection Miracle Cleansing Oil, one of the oil cleansers that turns milky when you add water. It does an good job of taking off make-up but find it leaves an oily film in my eyes, no matter how tightly i keep them closed. Also leaves my skin feeling a bit tight.

But then, I hate throwing stuff out so it might languish in the bathroom for a wee while longer!

I finished a mini tube of Glamglow -the green one which seemed to be a scrub and a cleanser together. I liked this and suspect I may like the range in general. I have a tendency to blocked pores around my nose so any of the products with clay in seem to feel great to me. I hanker for a bottle of ceramic slip clenser having had a couple of samples but can't justify the pric and haven't spotted a cheaper lternative yet.

I also finished a can of Vaseline spray on moisturiser, the green can. That was convenient but just OK.

hollyisalovelyname · 03/08/2015 09:51

dogday do Sephora deliver to the UK ?

Costacoffeeplease · 03/08/2015 09:52

I've just handed over my bare minerals set and a two thirds full bottle of Chanel no 5 to a friend, so that's a little space cleared in the cupboardSmile

dogdaydisaster · 03/08/2015 18:52

Holly- yes they do. I like that they get stuff you can't get over here, and shipping is cheap. But I'm not sure with taxes and so on whether it's good value tbh.
