Ashamed of my beauty product hoard!

IPokeBadgers · 01/03/2015 15:04

I have spent some time this morning trying to sort and tidy my beauty and toiletries cupboard and I am actually feeling veryShock andBlush at the sheer volume of stuff that I have, much of it lovely and expensive and unopened!

I reckon it could take me a couple of years to get through it all!

Buying make up as well as lovely bath and shower stuff seems to have become my go to/default pick me up when I want to impulse buy...... but seeing the hoard has brought me down.

anyone else like this and are there any threads that would encourage me to stop buying stuff and use all the lovely products that I have?

please tell me I am not the only person like this?

Ah, long lasting but quite drying I would imagine, atticus? I'be tried it a couple of times but it dries my lips out (even with good lip balm/cream underneath).

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 20/07/2015 11:08

Thanks for the parcel post tip, mowglik.

I have a few Clinique samples to use up (it was skincare bonus time in JL recently). I went for the moisture surge kit as I know I like a few things out of that range. I've been pleasantly surprised by the moisture surge extended relief gel moisturiser. I thought it wouldn't be enough for my skin but actually, it's great so far. I may well buy a full size when I'm in the U.S. next month (Clinique is soooo much cheaper over there, like half that price we pay).

atticusclaw · 20/07/2015 11:26

It hasn't been drying for me but I've done this for the past 30 years and so my lips are used to it Smile. I do wear lipstick on top occasionally but only when I'm going out.

atticusclaw · 20/07/2015 11:28

I will be at the end of a big bottle of palmers cocoa butter later today. I bought it when DS2 was born. He's now eight Blush. I've been slathering it onto my legs at night.

jjwhite · 20/07/2015 20:50

Yay! Finally had a whole load of new empties:

Eucerin Urea 5% night cream: the day cream version of this is way better, this is just too thick and rich even for the driest parts of my body. Won't repurchase - too thick and hard to spread/takes ages to sink in.

La Roche-Posay Aftersun - amazing, will be repurchasing before my summer hols. Sinks in really well, very moisturising, good smell - perfect.

Erborian toner - won't repurchase, didn't do anything whatsoever, didn't especially like the smell, ended up using up on my body.

jjwhite · 21/07/2015 16:36

One more empty - Zelens Z-22 face oil - not that impressed... Caroline Hirons raves about Zelens but so far I haven't found anything that jumps out at me/justifies the higher price range.

I'm about to head off on holiday so will be taking the rest of my minis/travel sizes to use up :-)

Costacoffeeplease · 21/07/2015 16:54

Two for me today, Gatineau melatogenine moisturiser, which is fine, and Laura geller vanilla body soufflé, which is lovely, it has a very light, whipped texture, but very moisturising, I would re-purchase, but haven't seen it on qvc recently - think I got it as part of a tsv last year!

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 21/07/2015 16:57

jj, I know what you mean re Zelens. I bought the facial SPF because it had universal raves. It breaks me out and feels greasier than the (cheap as chips) Neutrogena Dry Touch one I get when we're in the USA. DH is now using it to get it finished.

daimbardiva · 21/07/2015 19:38

Back from holiday and one empty while I was away - body shop vit C night serum. Was nice but won't repurchase as I prefer a cream at night time.
Being away was interesting as it forced me to pare down my skin abs hair care routines...and both are looking good, maybe even better than usual! Could be the relaxation though...

jjwhite · 21/07/2015 23:23

Hmm interesting other people feel the same about Zelens... I probably won't try anything else from the line as I've tried a few things now and am not fussed. One more empty this evening (powering through now!):

Pai pomegranate and pumpkin seed moisturiser/ stretch mark cream - nice organic/natural smell, nice thick texture, takes a while to sink in though. Is supposed to help stretch marks but I'm not convinced that anything actually helps once they're there. Probably won't repurchase for the time being but I would recommend it to a friend if someone asked about it.

FrugalFashionista · 22/07/2015 05:46

Ooh thanks again for the reviews! I've had my suspicions about Zelens (finding a physical suncreen that is cosmetically pleasing is not simple) and your reviews have helped a lot. I think CH is paid in some way to promote Zelens, they prbably have a savvy social media marketing campaign, and that's why I am interested how regular people experience the products.

Still staying with my parents, still using mostly travel minis, no empties atm.

FrugalFashionista · 24/07/2015 18:09

I used up a bunch of supermarket makeup wipes. They were quite dry but not too awful on my skin - I'm staying with my parents for a couple of weeks so they simplify my life too but not going to repurchase, a travel bottle of micellar is my favorite makeup remover.

Costacoffeeplease · 25/07/2015 13:20

So I finished a Judith Williams tube of firming mask today - but had a clear out and found 3 make up palettes (gifts from husband's travels), a travel size micellar water, a decleor amoressence iris, a sample dior moisturiser, a liz Earle superskin concentrate, a touche éclat, a bobbi brown gel eyeliner and eye shadow!! So they've all been brought to be used!

FrugalFashionista · 28/07/2015 09:53

I've organized my makeup, skincare, mini products, tooth and hair products, soaps and perfumes following Kondo principles. There is quite a lot of it - I'm on a shopping ban until the rest of the year - but lots of full-size products are almost used up.

I've used up a couple of hotel mini shampoos and shower gels from my stash over the past few days and discarded two empty perfume samples.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 28/07/2015 11:57

In the last week I've finished the serozinc and Origins mask in my previous post, plus a pot of Clinique TTDO balm & a Chanel waterproof automatic eyeliner pencil in khaki. Love the colour & formulation but the packaging was a ballache as the 'pencil lead' kept falling out. Not ideal at £20 for about a gram of product.

dogdaydisaster · 28/07/2015 22:12

Ok, I'm in.

Today I finished a tube of L'Occitane lavender hand cream. Love. So luxurious (at about £14 a tube it bloody should be) and smells amazing. Would repurchase in a heartbeat but I won't yet. Wish me luck!

dogdaydisaster · 29/07/2015 10:43

I started with a win and used up a jar if StGrape Aqua Bliss body scrub. i liked this, it's quite 'scrubby' so Im not sure I'd use it on my face (it's apparently for face and body).

I started targeting my make up this morning and am going for the Bobbi Brown trio. It's really quite dull in comparison to the lovelies in my drawer but for work it's fine.

I may have a sephora order coming today, which I ordered before the purge began Blush

IPokeBadgers · 29/07/2015 12:14

Nice to see this thread is still going! Smile I was in Canada for a a couple of weeks there and actually bought less than I thought i would. I had access to Sephora and I was so escited to get into one for a plunder. And I bought...absolutely nothing! Not for want of trying, but I just ended up with a bad case of analysis paralysis....there was just sooo much that i actually panicked and had to leave the store. The thumping loud music probably didnt help!

So i tried again, and had exactly the same reaction. I think the problem was i didnt have anything in particular in mind so it was just too overwhelming. I did end up with an eyeshadow palette and a load of EOS lipbalms from one of the drugstores though!

"Excited" not "escited" - doh!

mowglik · 29/07/2015 14:30

Lol same here I was in a sephora in malaysia last month and thought i was going to clean the place out but there was so much stuff I got overwhelmed and just came away with a few face masks. In retrospect I would have got some kate somerville stuff to try

Ive finished my samples of revive moisturising renewal cream - I bought a sample set of these as it was much cheaper than buying a full size product. I do love this cream and would go back to it but at the moment am trying out lots of new products so its on my to repurchase list. The first time I used this cream I woke up with amazing clear skin (probably due to the glycolic acid in it) and it still works pretty well and is a lovely light texture thats really easy to wear so i will buy again at some point

ememem84 · 29/07/2015 17:53

Used up this week: Molton brown body moisturiser - ginger and orange I think.

Clarins serum - red bottle - not the double serum. Hydrating one I think.

dogdaydisaster · 29/07/2015 19:21

My sephora order arrived Blush
I now have the tarte tartelette palette and another tarte palette, and a tarte mascara. The mascara isn't so bad as I only have one currently. But the eyeshadow I need like a hole in the head. Oh well. One is an all in one which has blusher and bronzer as well as eyeshadow so that will go in my holiday bag as it has all I'll need in one case. As will the Tata Harper mini kit which was also in the box; that can be my skincare for the two weeks. I've been wanting to try that range for ages. Better bust out all the other samples that now won't be coming on holiday.

woodhill · 29/07/2015 21:50

I've been making progress. I like the Dr Organic coconut body oil and argan oil, good products and nearly finished.

my cleaning products seem to be just as abundant

Nabootique · 30/07/2015 10:54

Haven't posted for ages but I now have a few empties:

Tata Harper Rejuvenating Serum (travel size) - It's nice, but not nice enough to justify the price tag. Also it's a tad rich for my skin.

Bravura Calendula toner - Love this and will be repurchasing.

Bravura Volcanic Clay cleanser - Ditto. Great for days when I'm a bit greasy but don't have time for a clay mask, and leaves skin really soft and smooth.

Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel - I couldn't understand the hype at first but it really grew on me. It does leave me nice and soft and is refreshing. I also love the gel/oil texture. I will probably repurchase in time, but the nSpa Melting Cleansing Gel is a good budget stand in.

dogdaydisaster · 30/07/2015 21:15

Another empty last night- the L'Oreal Regenerative eye cream. Nothing special, I ended up using it all over my neck.

Im almost at the end of my Elemis cleansing balm, it lasts so long!
