Soooo..... flares. Anyone actually wearing them?

They're all over the fashion mags, and the bloggers are working themselves into a right old lather about the rebirth of the flared trouser.... but after extensive research I've yet to see the "woman on the street" actually wearing them. I didn't see one pair while I was out shopping today.

Has anyone grasped the nettle and embraced all things 70s?

It's going to to be Quite The Project to find a good pair. I think I'll prob go for bootcuts, but nothing quite so pronounced as flares.

Lagoonablue · 17/02/2015 22:24

I reckon they will hit in the summer. Lots of pale flared denim will be evident.

No, I was there so no way in hell would I wear flares I'll give them a bodyswerve this time around Wink

frankietwospots · 17/02/2015 22:25

I've resurrected my Boden dark denim widelegs although I accept the shape is not quite the skinny-at-the-top, flared-at-the-bottom look. However, I'm collecting these from Next tomorrow: www.next.co.uk/g5228s5#962189g52

I went on a mission to the depths of the loft and found quite a few pairs from yesteryear. A couple of them fit the current brief (dark wash, tightish on thighs, good length) but I still felt like a refugee from The Osmonds when I put them on.

There was a fashion edit in one magazine - Double Denim featured....................... just to warn you all.

AddToBasket · 17/02/2015 22:27

I tried. They just make me look short, and I'm not prepared to add platforms.

frankietwospots · 17/02/2015 22:27

I saw Triple Denim featured in a magazine. Yep, triple...

Twinklestein · 17/02/2015 22:33

I've been wearing my Citizens bell bottoms for about 5 years. They're the coolest jeans I've ever had, even beating my 80s vintage 501s. Every day is Starsky and Hutch.

Soooo..... flares. Anyone actually wearing them?
AmberNectarine · 17/02/2015 22:35

Yep, wearing the Topshop Jamie flares today!

Floisme · 17/02/2015 22:40

I like them but I'm waiting till it's warm and dry enough to wear them with flip flops and a T shirt. I don't think they work too well in winter - unless you travel everywhere by limousine.

Honeydragon · 17/02/2015 22:44

I wore high waisted next kick flares today and on Sunday (from cira '98) I wore them with clumpy boots, on Sunday with a long v Nick tie back TSHIRT, and today with a skinny fit t shirt.

People did not run screaming or point and laugh.

I'm going to get some platform pumps to wear with them through spring but I'm not keen on the Converse ones.

I intend to get a black pair for evenings out.

candykane25 · 17/02/2015 22:49

I'm 5ft 2 and a small 14. No I won't be doing flares sadly as I will look short and fat in them. I'm being adventurous with slim and straight legs and relaxed skinnies instead.
I love the 70s vibe but I did it back in the 90s as a student when I was still short but a lot slimmer.

HowlyBabblyBansheeeeeee · 17/02/2015 22:50

Twinklestein I absolutely love those jeans. Wore them first time round so I'd look ridiculous in them now. Looks like I'm going to spend the summer in a haze of nostalgia. Envy

Strokethefurrywall · 17/02/2015 22:53

I've got 2 gorgeous pairs of flared 7s, one light blue denim hipsters and the other dark blue high waisted 70s style that are so damned comfortable and look stunning with heels.
But I've been wearing them for 5 years and didn't realise they'd gone out of fashion only to come back in again!!

Greengardenpixie · 17/02/2015 23:09

I bought a pair of jersey legging type flares and have worn them to work. They are black and smart looking. Wore them with a black tunic and pendant and a long cardi and felt great.

Minshu · 17/02/2015 23:24

I love my purple velvet flares, but only get a chance to wear them occasionally. Had them about 7 or 8 years, at a guess. Never really worried about their fashion status or lack thereof... Grin

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 17/02/2015 23:28

Oh yes. Need heels with them. Loving them.

Itscurtainsforyou · 17/02/2015 23:38

I can't wait to wear them! Greengardenpixie - where did you get your jersey legging flares? They sound fab.

I have been wearing some over the last week or so. It was a lovely change from wearing skinnies that I seem to have lived in for the last 10 years only tripped on the flare once.

Hazchem · 17/02/2015 23:46

this is great news.

Owing to my ridiculous post baby feet the only pair of shoes that fit are massive hiking style work boots. Flairs will work quite well. although I might try for wide legs. as I have post baby thighs.

Silverjohnleggedit · 17/02/2015 23:50

I want some but I want to wear them in the summer - coats and shoes are too much of a winter challenge.

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/02/2015 08:04

No I probably won't.

I'm only 5ft and therefore they require very high heels to work and still in photos they don't look as flattering on me as skinny/slim leg jeans.

Very rarely are even the models photographed from the front when wearing flares as they look much nicer from the side. Which is fine for blogs/nap etc but quite hard to only ever be seen from an angle in real life I've found Wink

SinglePringle · 18/02/2015 08:20

Oh yes, I've started! I've a dark pair, skinny on the thigh, flared from the knee (Top Shop) that I'm wearing with a pair of tan wedge sandals (well, half sandal, half shoe) and a pale blue and black chiffon blouse with a pussy bow (Riger Island).

And I shall be doing Double Denim come the spring!
