Soooo..... flares. Anyone actually wearing them?

They're all over the fashion mags, and the bloggers are working themselves into a right old lather about the rebirth of the flared trouser.... but after extensive research I've yet to see the "woman on the street" actually wearing them. I didn't see one pair while I was out shopping today.

Has anyone grasped the nettle and embraced all things 70s?

The hourglass look to legs is off putting. I think height helps...the high pockets look a bit grim.

MaryWestmacott · 18/02/2015 08:26

ooh, I was after some suggestions, am only 5' 0" so need petite ones, and am skint, but I'm just so bored of the skinny jeans and oversized jumper silhouette... some new and different - just cheap needed please!

MrsGolightly · 18/02/2015 08:42

oh yes! Love a flare - so flattering. Seen some MiH ones I think i'm going to order to replace my old ones.

MaryWestmacott · 18/02/2015 12:11

after seeing this earlier, I noticed a couple of woman wearing wider looking bootcuts. I asked one at the park and she said they were Zara, they looked very good, but she was tall and stylish, I'm worried I won't look stylish, more like I've been wearing them since the late 90s...

noddyholder · 18/02/2015 14:12

I never stopped so flattering and great in summer think they go well with summery tops and wedges

ouryve · 18/02/2015 14:17

No way. Apart from my short legs, which make them look ridiculous (and no, even when I could manage heels I didn't wear them) I'm so clumsy I'd be flat on my face, in them. I've just got rid of some wide legged lounge pants that I never even left the house in after almost tumbling down the stairs in them.

Lambzig · 18/02/2015 15:59

Yes I have dug out my J Brand lovestory ones and I had forgotten how flattering they are despite having two babies since I last wore them. I also ordered the M&S ones from vogue to try on.

Lardylassnomore · 18/02/2015 19:08

M and s are selling them. Think I will stick to my boot cuts

RustyBear · 18/02/2015 19:41

This was me first time round...

If I wear them again I will have to get them in a shorter length, or make a better job of turning the hems up!

Soooo..... flares. Anyone actually wearing them?
Silverjohnleggedit · 18/02/2015 20:22

Saw the M&S flares yesterday and they looked awful - too high waisted, pockets too high....All Saints and Me&Em look better but I don't want to pay £££

Manic3mum · 18/02/2015 20:42

Bought some from M&S - too scared to wear them! Confused

snowmummy · 18/02/2015 20:44

Love flares, and now wish I'd kept the ones I had during the 90s revival. Have to go shopping...

KneesOfTheBee · 18/02/2015 20:53

Ooh, this takes me right back to being 14!

Flared jeans can look amazing if you get the right fit - but that's true of any style jeans.

Great over wedges but also good with flats so you get the frayed edge. I wore mine like that in the '70s until I lost about an inch off the bottom. Grin

Kiffykaffycoffee · 18/02/2015 20:54

I'll dig out my old ones from c.2005 when the weather improves. Skinnies are so much warmer in the winter months. Glad I kept my old flares Smile

Tanaqui · 18/02/2015 21:12

Ah rusty you look the business!

I am shortish and like a gentle flare with wedges. Would love to be able to pull off the full bell bottom though!

Toptack · 18/02/2015 21:36

Oh thank god! I have just bought some and was a bit nervous about wearing them (again, worried I would look like I had been wearing them since 1997) but feel braver now. Just need some nice wedges to go with, and preferably some dry weather...

mammuzzamia · 18/02/2015 21:48

I love that photo, Rusty!

I think flares are great. I dare not, though. Do I? They'd have to be really subtle for me to begin with

PitOfFique · 18/02/2015 22:03

Flares are back? Yay! Wore second time round (90s), will be buying again.

ThatsMyOnlyShirt · 18/02/2015 22:12

So happy flares are back! Currently stalking some on ASOS. I intend to treat myself to them before Easter.

Fozzleyplum · 18/02/2015 22:16

The midlifechic blog has just featured the "new flares", but from the pictures posted, the ones that Nikki, the blog owner, tried, were less extreme than the ones in this thread. If I can find some in a tall fitting which are somewhere between boot legs and '70's flares, I'll be delighted, as skinnies don't really suit me (knobbly knees and big feet!)

MrsSkinnyLegs · 18/02/2015 23:04

I loved mine, wore them til the arse fell out and will most definitely be wearing them again. But only if I can find a low rise pair...this high waisted business is a shocker.

Turquoiseblue · 19/02/2015 08:18

I love them and have a few pairs I wear in summer with tan sandals and sweedish hasbeens - MIH London (less flared than Marrakech) MIH Marrakech (very flared) And pairs of nobody and COH onesGrin
In summer I love them with boho type cami tops (had some lovely Kate moss for top shop ones) or tee shirts.
Also have a biba silk blouse with pussy bow I tried last Sunday. Problem is footwear - wore with mid heeled courts, was a little unsure if they worked.

RustyBear · 19/02/2015 08:55

So are they also reviving the long pointed collared/puff sleeved/massive turn-back cuffed/shirred-elastic waist shirts I wore with mine?

Soooo..... flares. Anyone actually wearing them?
Silverjohnleggedit · 19/02/2015 09:06

I think midlifechic is the look I will be trying to aviod - her styling is awful - mid 90s rather than 70s....I think that's the tricky bit. Fine if you are aged 20 and have a cool boho look but mid forties, you're danger of looking ever so slightly out of date Mumsy.

FrugalFashionista · 19/02/2015 09:39

I love flares. I'm long and lean and they are such a fun and flattering thing to wear. Aiming for slightly cropped tops. Can't do a full-on 1970s look but I'll do it my way. Have two pairs of Marrakech (one white) from past seasons and one pair of 7FAM Gingers, the latter are the best ever. Love them with Hasbeen sandals in summer, such a carefree look...
