I liked ( and bought) this in black www.marksandspencer.com/v-neck-jumper/p/p22379655 - obv usual website disclaimer. Pity not in a better fabric but will look ace with a vest under and my leatherette trousers.

also this coat was LOVELY in grey www.marksandspencer.com/buttonsafe-wool-blend-double-breasted-coat-with-cashmere/p/p22312160

and would have liked this if not so long www.marksandspencer.com/cotton-rich-striped-pencil-skirt/p/p22357825 here

I think this season's has been the worst for a long time, I can usually manage to find something but all those green, yellow and pink tops are vile, who buys them, I wonder. I am also their target customer as I am 57, I am not their target shape though being 5'10", so I struggle there also, because all the tops are short and boxy, so often have to resort to Next tall, which is also a bit lurid at the moment.

Bunbaker · 29/01/2015 16:44

I can't believe how short sighted fashion buyers are regarding colours. I trawled round Meadowhall last week looking for some tops for casual and work, and failed miserably. The "in" spring colours are lime green, yellow and lurid pink. The other tops are all horribly floral or have loud patterns.
Who wears these colours? Do they honestly think that people are gullible enough to buy them because some fashion buyer tells them to?

It is the end of January and most of the shops still have bulging sale rails because the clothes are so awful. The necks are too wide, the tops are too low cut, the material is too thin, there is too much polyester. Grr!

GeorginaWorsley · 29/01/2015 19:11

To be fair I actually did like a bit of the Autograph stuff and the fabrics were good quality.
But I don't really need any more grey tees or jumpers!
The shoes are not bad at all either.
But the 'main range' was dire.
I would like a good quality but mid price point shop on the high street that sold the sort of clothes I love in shops such as Mint Velvet, White Company, Reiss , Jigsaw etc.
Am not a fan of Next at all really either.
Marks could fill such a gapSad

I bought this jumper recently with the 20% off. It's nice! Neat fitting. Will wear with a leather skirt.

frankietwospots · 30/01/2015 11:19

Really nice jumper Queenie!

Armpitt · 31/01/2015 09:30

sadly the pointed shoes are vile in rl - the front is very very flat and thin and make your feet and legs look odd

They're not vile. Admittedly I tried them on with heel-skimming trousers but I thought they looked great.

clammer · 31/01/2015 11:01

I have just purchased this mac in violet because the red one I bought last year was such a great fit, lovely and bright and practical.

GertrudePerkins · 31/01/2015 13:44

saw this grey jumper today and really liked it, but was with the DC en route to the foodhall so didn't try on.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 31/01/2015 15:11

I tried the pointy shoes on yesterday and liked them . They also have some cobalt suede ones - pure 80s !

KenDoddsDadsDog · 31/01/2015 15:12

That's the jumper I have in an emerald colour gertrudeperkins , nice shape

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/01/2015 15:16

I like that grey jumper - but 100% acrylic, so I wouldn't buy it. I'd like this in grey - the lemon colour it comes in is hideous.

Lardylassnomore · 31/01/2015 16:16

Am liking the new Rosie for Autograph perfume and May tray myself to a small bottle.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 04/02/2015 20:52

Palm dress is now in the sale here most sizes available and £35

Financeprincess · 04/02/2015 22:58

They have some great pointy, spiky ankle boots with cut-outs in the side in Autograph. They also had, before Christmas, some excellent Autograph pointed courts, lovely leather and leather lined. Both the shoes and the boots look a lot more expensive than they were; the shoes were similar in quality and style to some Prada shoes I got in a sale. I often have a look at their shoes, because there are some gems amongst the wretched footglove orthopaedic stuff.

One of my friends says that M&S is one of the few shops where you can buy medium heels. I don't do less than 4 inches myself.

I saw a bright pink waffle coat today in Per Una (yes, I know, don't judge me, I have never bought anything from this section) which I thought was lovely for spring.

I also rate their Best of British range, which you only seem to be able to buy online. They have re-done a lovely wool skirt that they sold last autumn, and this time they made it long enough for the women who can afford to buy this range (clue: 35+) to wear to work. The previous incarnation was too short. So they are obviously getting some things right!

hauntedhenry · 05/02/2015 08:15

My palm print dress arrived and it looks bloody great! It has an unexpected ruchey bit over the tummy which I didn't notice on the website, but it's very flattering and I'm impressed. First thing I've had from M&S (except underwear) in about 5 years I think. I also got a Rosie bra which is lovely.

MrPop · 05/02/2015 12:27

I like their leather bags - nice

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/02/2015 19:17

Good news re the dress. :)

Financeprincess · 05/02/2015 22:06

Another pleasant surprise today. Fab bright pink shift dress, £55. AND I got a voucher at the till for 20% off David Gandy's pants (as in, endorsed by him, not his actual pants, for the avoidance of doubt), which I used on 'trunks' for DH. Huzzah for Marks and Spencer!

QueenQueenie · 07/02/2015 17:01

I bought this VW knock off dress online and collected today - it's lovely and you really wouldn't think it was m and s... there are gems if you have a keen eye and sift through the mountain of 'meh' imo.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 07/02/2015 22:03

Ooh now that dress is nice. Needs toned arms though.

QueenQueenie · 07/02/2015 22:07

I have ok arms but not fab ones... shall wear it with a leather jacket I think.

Armpitt · 08/02/2015 09:36

Tits with that jumper remus?
I saw that pink cost too. Nice
