I am having a sedate drink with MrsS. Like Rose, I do like to partaaay but for one thing am still shaking off this sodding cough. And once again more tensed up about my mum than I admit.

Stropperella · 31/12/2014 10:19

I never pay much attention to NYE if I can help it. I may have to stay up tonight, though, but only to be a taxi driver. Dd has muttered something about being invited to some do about 15 miles away but has not yet deigned to provide me with any details.

Stropperella · 31/12/2014 10:35

Thinking about it, though, I now recall we visited friends for NY a couple of years ago and stayed up until 4am and had a good time. I guess it depends who you're with, as ever.

Rosebag · 31/12/2014 10:47

Sympathy stropps about being kept in the dark but being on call. We've had to rejig all our arrangements because DS got a last minute invitation to something. He's on a train back to the Smoke now with some vague promise he's staying over at a friend. And we now have to take DD with us to dinner. She'll be bored and therefore annoying. ( Originally, they were both going to stay in the flat and watch movies and eat Doritos.) I have the uneasy feeling we're going to get a late night call from Ds stranded in town.....I do hate it when the DC spoil my social life...Angry

motherinferior · 31/12/2014 11:12

My Fat Jeans are tight Shock

cremolafoam · 31/12/2014 11:29

So are mine MI. I am back in tunics , to hide the extra roll.Shock
Also noticed distinct triple chin in Xmas photos. Gah!

MontserratCaballe · 31/12/2014 12:25

Morning, Crepeys, and happy last day of 2014. Sympathies on the fatness. I am also in my fattest jeans and feeling distinctly podgy. Just eaten 2 mince pies to confirm my lardy status. Still, back to reality next week so I can tub out til then. I may ladyjog tomorrow, to start the year as I mean to go on.

I have been very lazy. Dh went to work in a huff this am so I slept in til 10;30 Shock and, aside from going to get a cup of tea and the mincers, have been upstairs ever since. The children have eaten their body weight in roses but at least it uses them up.

How are you feeling today, NU? Thinking of you.

Sympathies to all crepeys with children going back to Uni. I was vile in my late teens / early 20s and feel quite ashamed of how badly I treated my parents. I did get nicer as I got older though. I feel for you too with the taxi service. Can these young people not stay over so that you can have a little glass at midnight?

We are staying in tonight and watching Jools Holland. Then a bracing walk / lunch tomorrow before we crank it up again for 2015. I might take the children out for lunch in a minute. I think they are enjoying loafing round as much as I am.

bigTillyMint · 31/12/2014 13:12

Feeling a bit enlivened after a bracing ride with my friend. Plus a cuppa and flapjack (what extra poundage?Grin) in the Design Museum as the Farm café was shut.

We are off to friends, with other friends tonight. Plus all DC. DS is still in bed (though I hear noises) - mate who sleptover last night has form for not going to sleep till the morning. DD apparently went into school but has just rung to say she is going up to Oxford St now. They were both wittering about parties... I forsee some possible ishoos aheadHmm

wilbur · 31/12/2014 15:50

NU - so sorry about your cat, that's very sad when they are such a part of the family. And more so when you have been under the weather yourself and not feeling 100% still.

Addle - that's v v poor of your in laws re the cemetery walk, but sadly I have found it's often the case. Not one of dh's bros ever asked me how I was doing the first Xmas after Da died, and it's not that they are not nice men, they are, but they were doing their family Christmas which my Dad was not a part of and so his presence, or lack of it, was not remarked on. I also remember a conversation with someone around the same time about the tv show Six Feet Under with them urging me to watch it, and I said I had watched a bit but then stopped, trailing off and assuming they understood why. They then went on and on until I had to say I had just been to too many funerals over the preceding years and then they got it and had the balls to say "Oh, you've made me feel bad now". Shock Anyway, I hope you had a moment to remember your ddad in happier times over the Christmas break.

Have half emptied the garage this morning and am just settling down to stare at building plans to try and see where to put plug sockets. I was awake in the night and started worrying about gas meters and asbestos, which is not a good sign when we haven't even got a start date yet. Weirdly, most of my family were also awake at 2.45am - ds2's fish tank light came on and woke him up, dd was awake reading as she often is in the watches of the night, and dh had some kind of stomach issue, but I got confused and thought I heard him downstairs, so I went down and then had to check through the house which is when I found the various awake dcs. So I'm a bit spaced today and very glad that we're just going out for a quick drink with friends and then back here for sofa/movie/wine/pringles/Xmas cake.

Hi WAF - sorry about your dd's arm, but glad you had a good Christmas.

BTM - am envious of your break, sounds wonderful. Will have to look into something like that next year maybe as a recovery from dh's full on family Xmas.

And CV - you have a hamster that comes when it's called? Confused Glad you found it though. Dd's gerbils escaped a few times, but they also were not very adventurous (although they were pretty fast).

motherinferior · 31/12/2014 16:23

Wilbur, I've just remembered I woke and worried frightfully about whether I'll get a visa to India next time.

WTF?

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/12/2014 17:27

NU - sorry about your cat. Sad

Addle - I am staggered at the thoughtlessness.

QueenQueenie · 31/12/2014 17:47

Happy NYE crepesters!

So sorry to hear your sad news re dcat NU. I really do sympathise and do understand how much a pet can feel like a family member too. Hope you are taking things gently and being looked after.

We're off to dinner with friends later in their grand but grubby W London house which will probably be quite a laugh as they're very eccentric. What we'll be fed is anyone's guess - dh has just said 'let's have something before we go' Shock. Think I'll just drink lots!

Ds1 is of out to deepest E London. Hope we don't have late night stranded or other drama phone calls. Fingers crossed.

S AND B KLAXON -Have done rather well in Whistles sale just now and bought rather lovely silk dress for half price. Yay!

Have a good time tonight all of you whatever your plans. See you in 2015!

Stropperella · 31/12/2014 17:55

I've just realised I missed loads of posts this morning.
Hello WAF! Sorry to hear about your dd's breakage.
Addle, I am appalled at the awful thoughtlessness of your inlaws and admire your restraint in continuing to put up with them for a whole week.
Wilbur, I am also Sad for you you struggling through the first Christmas without your dad surrounded by people who didn't give it any thought. People can be so .. odd.
Dd's plans appear to have fallen through - or at least earlier today she said that she wasn't going out this evening at all because there were no spaces in any of the cars her friends were going in and she wouldn't let me take her because "I'm not going alone". Not really sure what the do was that she wanted to go to and she doesn't quite seem to know either, or if she does, she's not telling me. She has puts lots of makeup on, but is just lying around staring at her computer and being meh. Hmm
I'm planning on doing a nice supper and having some 7up. Grin I've decided to give the Dry January thing a whirl and am starting a day early. Mainly because there is a good chance that even if I make to the the end of Jan with no booze, I will give in a day early for birthday-related reasons. I am curious to see whether I will notice any benefits from being off the booze.

motherinferior · 31/12/2014 17:55

Ooh, an S&B question here:

Thinking of getting a Nice Warm Jumper from that great Crepey mainstay Woolovers: probably the fair isle one - am on phone so can't link but it's the unisex chunky one not the Laydeez' one. Can't decide colour...any advice? I love the navy but tend to look dead in navy!

cremolafoam · 31/12/2014 17:59

Happy new year QQ , have a super evening. I too went a bit bonkers at lunchtime and bought a furrrrr coat. God it's lush. I feel like a film star in itGrin
I finish at 9.00ish and may just crawl home and hibernate inside my fur apparel , coming out only for refills of Prosecco- Chambord cocktails procured by dh.
GrinGrinGrin
Have a lovely evening my crepey friends and see you on the other side
Smile

QueenQueenie · 31/12/2014 18:01

I rather like the look of the green one for you MI. The red and blue are a bit too trad maybe and the grey a bit meh... nice style and v cosy looking!

QueenQueenie · 31/12/2014 18:03

Fur coat Crem! Don't forget to wear knickers Wink
Prosecco in large quantities sound v good idea. X

herbaceous · 31/12/2014 18:10

I ain't goin' nowhere. We've ordered the curry, and I'm about to put on my loungewear. Otherwise known as some Sainsbury's joggers and a fleecy hoody.

I wish wish wish I could go sales shopping, but have no money. One thing I MIGHT splash out on is a pair of brogues/loafers to enhance my skirt/dress wearing possibilities.

I'm torn between these racy little numbers, and some green hamble oaks.

lalsy · 31/12/2014 18:17

I have realised that festive supermarket shops remind me of my ddad's last Christmas years ago...I have cried twice this year in Tesco queues surrounded by people in silly hats. Completely ridiculous.

I like the green one too, MI.

Auriga, your break sounds lovely.

Crem, more details please on spontaneous fur coat lunchtime shopping....Grin.

Have a lovely evening everyone, whether sofa-based or not.

bigTillyMint · 31/12/2014 18:22

QQ, your NYE sounds great - love the unexpected!

Cremo, am loving the sound of your fur coat and Chambord cocktailsEnvy

MI, I love navy, but as QQ says, green may be better on you?

Herbs, those first ones are great and very unusual!

Stropps, how uncharacteristically restrained of youGrin and poor DD - maybe something will change magically?

DS has been for a haircut and looks even olderShock DD has not reappeared yet and has not answered a textHmm I am in my PJs (following a bath) and trying to get in the mood...

bigTillyMint · 31/12/2014 18:25

Spoke too soon - she's back with loads of new clothes!

QueenQueenie · 31/12/2014 18:34

I vote for black patent bling ones Herbs - they're lovely and tres versatile imo. The green are a bit Robin Hood for me...

bigTillyMint · 31/12/2014 18:44

QQGrin at a bit Robin Hood for me!
And where's your linky to your half-price Whistles dress? And did you get those leather leggings?

No idea what to put on tonight - gotta dress up a bit I guessConfused

Auriga · 31/12/2014 18:52

WAF how is your DD?

Addle I meant to say I was sorry to hear about the thoughtless way you were treated. The Christmas after a bereavement is hard. You did the best that you could by just telling them how you felt, no need to feel bad about that.

And Lalsy I know what you mean about the supermarket. All celebrations nowadays are mixed with a bit of sadness, that's middle age for you. I've done a bit better this year by not trying so hard to avoid the sadness, just accepting it as the way I feel. It doesn't cancel out the good stuff, it fits alongside somewhere.

Wonderful panto today, old-fashioned in the best way. Real fire now, pub supper and quiet evening in. Stropps, I'm often on soft drinks at NY, (partly as a little private protest about my upbringing) and I'll join you for an alcohol-free January.

Have a lovely evening everyone.

PS S&B

MI I think green too :)
QQ silk dress sounds good, can we have a meet-up so,you can model it?

lalsy · 31/12/2014 18:57

That's exactly it, Auriga.

I like the Robin Hood shoes.
