NU - so sorry about your cat, that's very sad when they are such a part of the family. And more so when you have been under the weather yourself and not feeling 100% still.
Addle - that's v v poor of your in laws re the cemetery walk, but sadly I have found it's often the case. Not one of dh's bros ever asked me how I was doing the first Xmas after Da died, and it's not that they are not nice men, they are, but they were doing their family Christmas which my Dad was not a part of and so his presence, or lack of it, was not remarked on. I also remember a conversation with someone around the same time about the tv show Six Feet Under with them urging me to watch it, and I said I had watched a bit but then stopped, trailing off and assuming they understood why. They then went on and on until I had to say I had just been to too many funerals over the preceding years and then they got it and had the balls to say "Oh, you've made me feel bad now".
Anyway, I hope you had a moment to remember your ddad in happier times over the Christmas break.
Have half emptied the garage this morning and am just settling down to stare at building plans to try and see where to put plug sockets. I was awake in the night and started worrying about gas meters and asbestos, which is not a good sign when we haven't even got a start date yet. Weirdly, most of my family were also awake at 2.45am - ds2's fish tank light came on and woke him up, dd was awake reading as she often is in the watches of the night, and dh had some kind of stomach issue, but I got confused and thought I heard him downstairs, so I went down and then had to check through the house which is when I found the various awake dcs. So I'm a bit spaced today and very glad that we're just going out for a quick drink with friends and then back here for sofa/movie/wine/pringles/Xmas cake.
Hi WAF - sorry about your dd's arm, but glad you had a good Christmas.
BTM - am envious of your break, sounds wonderful. Will have to look into something like that next year maybe as a recovery from dh's full on family Xmas.
And CV - you have a hamster that comes when it's called?
Glad you found it though. Dd's gerbils escaped a few times, but they also were not very adventurous (although they were pretty fast).
