Evening all - just checking in from Paris - thank you so much for your concern and good wishes we are all OK and I think everything is over. A bit hairy at one point as DH works in Vincennes but he just holed up in his office and is on his way back now. I just hope I can get DD1 on the Eurostar tomorrow. NU - think you were absolutely right re news black out.

I was a bit oblivious to all this as I went to the sales at La Defense with DD1 this morning and only found out all the drama on returning. I have got a fab long cardigan from Comptoir des Cotonniers. I think it may be a bit warm what with climate change and all that but I love it.

MollyAir · 09/01/2015 18:49

Yes, BTM, let's meet at the main gates, which is where we met last time, innit? I shall try not to be too much of a breathless slowcoach. I am exercising atm.

wilbur · 09/01/2015 19:08

I have had builders here for "opening up" this morning, ie digging holes to inspect foundations, putting holes in ceilings to look at joists. Exciting, although, obviously we are now pushed back to end Feb to start properly as there is still a lot of prep and building regs etc to do. Dh (who thinks these things happen by magic because the last 3 times we have done this I was only working very part time and was fully freelance so basically did it all as I was at home) was a bit surprised that the builders weren't willing to start just using a basic floorplan and some pictures from Pinterest. Anyway, I am rather enjoying myself doing drawings and checking fixtures, the only problem being dh wrinkling his nose at various options without coming up with any alternative suggestions Angry. I have resolved to ignore the wrinkly nose on most things but I have to listen when it is cooking-related as he is useful on that front.

I have 8 (eight, VIII) teens coming for ds1's b'day tomorrow for pizza and movie. More girls than boys, which is pretty funny - more boys invited but clearly boys don't throw enough of a strop when told they have to decline an invitation. The girls are clearly all about the FOMO. The one who was keen on ds1 last summer rsvp'd pretty much before the invitation was emailed. Grin

Currently watching the news, so very awful in Paris Sad.

herbaceous · 09/01/2015 19:54

It's a date, Rustling Crepeys.

I'm even more pleased with my charity shop haul, having seen that All Saints boots are £180 new. Oddly, no-one's biting my hand off for my old pleather ones I've put on our local Facebook sales site.

bigTillyMint · 09/01/2015 20:01

Yes, and Molly, I will try to slow downGrin

Wilbur, I have found that just doing it myself rather than involving DH in house projects usually works best. It certainly made the kitchen renovations a lot less painful!

Hope your pizza party goes well - is it a sleepover? Do you want to join us to blow away the cobwebs on Sunday?!

Hatty, glad to hear you and yours are all safe.

motherinferior · 09/01/2015 20:10

Sniggering at the keen girl. DD1 informs me that when she and her BF walk home past the boys' school the boys make embarrassing remarks but strangely enough the thought of a different route which would be more direct for DD1 does not seem to have occurred Grin. They apparently retort feistily poor lads.

lalsy · 09/01/2015 20:21

Grin on keen girl.

Nah, BTM, it would have put him off his stride. He stayed awake in his exams today Grin.

dd goes back tomorrow - we have had a lovely few days with much more giggling.

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/01/2015 22:12

I can't do 29th at Russell Square. I am having lunch that day with someone I have a very strange relationship with, who is not often in the country.

QueenQueenie · 09/01/2015 22:42

Sounds... interesting and a bit mysterious Mrs S!

CointreauVersial · 09/01/2015 22:49

Phew, so much to catch up on.

Hatty - I'm just watching the news in the background and thinking of you and yours.

MI - tough times with DM... Thanks

Midweek walks in London parks sound very civilised, but some of us have "jobs" you know. Wink

QQ - fingers tightly crossed... I think I had a phone call....

Wilbur - good luck with the impending building works.

Rudy - I spotted you on the Hush thread (at some ridiculous hour of the morning!) but wasn't enticed by anything. I can't believe how long the sales seem to be dragging on for.

As for me, well, thank heavens the first week back at the coal face is over. I've been back on the low carb wagon, and getting up early every day to either Shred or Ladyjog. Everyone has been cranky. My Friday evening glass (or three) of Wine has never been so keenly anticipated.

DS got his GCSE predictions today. All Cs, except French, which is a D. I don't know what to think, really.

And, for the first time, one of my DCs is on "report" at school. It's DD2. For Uniform. Hmm No more skirt rolling. Grin

Get with it, CV - the walk in the park is tomorrow. The midweek one is coffeeWink

Very windy here, all through the nightAngry

Rosebag · 10/01/2015 08:08

I will try to come to the Russell square MU...Transport and other stuff permitting.

Keen girl....sweet...ah.

CV predicted grades are worked out on some kind of formula and I don't know how truly accurate they are or whether they just become a self fulfilling prophesy. Its so demoralising for my DD...hers are right at the bottom for everything. I feel better about it all now that we have a plan which doesn't involve needing high grades. She does roll her skirt up though! Not been told off yet....

I am working today...unusually, teaching in an outside venue. They freezing church I mentioned in an earlier post. Hopefully the roof hasn't blown off in this weather. No lie in for me, and DH has the joy of homework supervision. Then last show tonight, which closes the run. Have a good day Crepeys and hope QQ has good news for us!

Blackduck · 10/01/2015 08:30

Fab (joint birthday) meal here last night...
But yes tell me about the wind! No sleep here as it is a howling gale battering the house (surprised the windows have survived)

Happy Saturday peeps

hattymattie · 10/01/2015 08:48

Mrs S - do you work for r MI6?

DD1 gone to catch the train back to the UK. It feels so empty. She's gone by car with DH as the RER is slightly unreliable at the moment - it took DH 2.5 hours to get back last night. I'll be relieved when she's tucked up in her bed in Cambridge.

MrsSchadenfreude · 10/01/2015 09:13

HM - Grin - that would be no!

QQ - neither of those, I think! I am sure that if I posted about it on the Relationships thread here, most people would be yelling "emotional affair, you bitch." But I've asked DH if he wants to come to the lunch too, and he does, so I don't think that comes under the "rules" (whatever they might be) for an "EA".

MrsSchadenfreude · 10/01/2015 09:14

I like the dress, Rudy, but it is not one for those who have tits, is it?

bigTillyMint · 10/01/2015 09:21

CV, yes the grades are worked out by some sort of formula. DD has the opposite problem - predictions so high she feels completely overwhelmed by them, which is demoralising too, Rose. Who do they actually work for?Angry Don't remember any predictions or much stress in my days of O'levels.
Skirt rolling is de rigeur, but you have to keep a watch-out for the uniform police and pull down fastWink

Happy Birthdays to the BD's!Cake

NUFC69 · 10/01/2015 09:21

I like the dress, Rudy, but I would need something that covered my knees - if you have the body (and legs) for it, go for it! I like Mint Velvet.
The post has just come and I am relieved to have received the all clear from my breast cancer scan. I must admit that I was assuming I was ok as it was almost three weeks since the scan, but good to know.

Very windy here overnight and we were woken periodically by the rain pounding against the windows. There is the odd big branch down on the lawn. Sleet is forecast for later. Sad

MrsSchadenfreude · 10/01/2015 09:23

Hoorah for good news, NU! Wine tonight?

Blackduck · 10/01/2015 09:25

I now have this image of MrsS as M Grin
Rudy I think that dress would look fab on you (less so on me!)

NU glad it was good news.

QueenQueenie · 10/01/2015 09:40

Yay! Offer for ds in the post this morning! Very very pleased for him and soooo impressed. Am rather in shock still but it's good shock Grin

motherinferior · 10/01/2015 09:47

Yays all round!
