Back from Newcastle. Thank you for your kind thoughts: my DM's death is something I try to avoid thinking about and, of course, it's not usually at the forefront of my mind most of the time.

MI, what a nuisance - I hope it doesn't take too long to redo the work.

Hatty, I hope you and the family are all ok and not involved in any way with the ongoing situation which is now even worse than it was. I can't understand why the authorities are not imposing a news blackout which would be perfectly reasonable under the circumstances as the two groups seem to be toying with them.

I tried on a lovely Mint Velvet pale grey woollen jacket which was too small in the sleeves and a White Company dress which clung too much to my lumps and bumps. I did, however, splash out and buy a replacement pineapple corer from Lakeland.

QueenQueenie · 09/01/2015 15:51

You devil NU!

motherinferior · 09/01/2015 15:53

Cannot face sodding Sainsbury's later, will do a delivery tomorrow.

Just found loads of eggs with a use-by date of yesterday in the cupboard (DP ordered them). Shall I chuck? Hate wasting food...

QueenQueenie · 09/01/2015 15:58

No! They'll be completely and absolutely fine.
Sponge cake?
omelettes for supper?
Tuna nicoise?

MontserratCaballe · 09/01/2015 16:09

You can also freeze the whites if you fancy using the yolks for chocolate mousse.

motherinferior · 09/01/2015 16:22

I'll do them tomorrow. Have irritably chucked out two (2, ii) packets of Posh Sausages DP clearly bought and then stashed in the fridge, eat-by date of last Monday. Because I cook sausages so much. Not. Angry

I think it is becoming evident that I am slightly losing the plot, dammit.

motherinferior · 09/01/2015 16:24

Or indeed egg curry tomorrow night, delish.

MollyAir · 09/01/2015 16:34

Honestly, MI, it's not reasonable to expect anything of yourself under the circumstances, and dp may as well get to grips with that. Anything you do manage to get done is a bonus.

Could I just check a couple of potential mini-MUs?

Tomorrow - walk in Brock Park - are we still up for that? (I am!) What time? Where to meet? The weather here today was fab for walking....too blowy for bikes...

Thursday 29 Jan, Russell Park cafe - shall we go for 10am?

QueenQueenie · 09/01/2015 16:41

If I'd known of the sausage glut MI I'd have shared my new favourite easy peasy supper recipe with you...WARNING: some people may think this is yuk...

Microwave / boil / steam large bag of sprouts. Chop cooked sprouts in half.

Take packet of (poshish if possible, I use Italian style fennel ones but any would do) sausages. Remove casing a slice each into bite sized pieces. Fry until cooked in large frying pan in olive oil.
When cooked add sprouts and cook together until a bit brown / charred.
Empty into bowls. Add grated cheese / chilli flakes / whatever to your taste.

I love this as does dh.

motherinferior · 09/01/2015 16:52

Ooh, that would have been nice but DD1 is vegetarian...

Have bunged various v easy things onto the supermarket order, having amazed MrsS by telling her you can buy ready-stuffed cannelloni Shock

bigTillyMint · 09/01/2015 16:55

Molly, I thought it was Sunday afternoon for BP? Don't think I can make tomorrow - was it Sunday or Saturday? Fingers crossed for Sunday, and that you and others can make it!

MI I agree with the others on the eggs being fine. But I am a Domestic Slattern who never gets stomach upsets!

QQ I love sprouts. As the DC loves sausages, I can see what might happenGrin And posh sausages make a failsafe and simple meal in our house - sausages and mash or Toad in the Hole!

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/01/2015 17:08

I am a great believer in the Nose when it comes to meat that is past its best before date. Sausages do keep for quite a while after their sell by date, and are fine. Blush

I quite fancy sausages tonight, now.

Ready stuffed cannelloni, yes indeed. Shock I need to get out more, clearly.

Rosebag · 09/01/2015 17:16

NU so sad. Thanks I never knew my Grandfathers. Paternal one died shortly after my parents got engaged, and Maternal one died when I was a toddler. Both of heart disease.

The eggs'll be fine MI….they are an invitation to Keep It Simple. Grin

Tilly lovely cardigan! I still haven't tried on the Sainsbos hi tops. DD on the other hand has slunk away wearing the -expensive- metallic converse ones saying, "It would be such a shame to go to the trouble of doing a return…"" Little minx. And they look amaaaaazing on her Envy

I am horrified at what is going on in Paris and trying to keep up to date by reading tweets. Hatty is DH ok?….please stay safe. These people are evil. I will be saying a prayer for peace and calm to return to the city when I light candles tonight.

MollyAir · 09/01/2015 17:17

I agree re wanting sausages...

OK, this Sunday afternoon would be great for me, BTM. Shall I do a list?

MollyAir
BTM

Anyone else? Walk in the park, Sunday afternoon, time tbc? And a nice cup of tea, I expect.

NUFC69 · 09/01/2015 17:17

I think I would give that a try, QQ, what's not to like? I love sprouts and naice sausages. Last night we had corned beef hash using a slow cooker recipe that was on a recent thread - it was delicious.

I removed the covers off one of our sitting room chairs this morning and washed them. We have just spent half an hour putting them back on - looks really good unless you look at the back corner where DH managed to bleed on the lovely cream material. Sad

bigTillyMint · 09/01/2015 17:25

We are having sausages tonight. With mashSmile

Rose, what a lucky girl your DD is. I would have to order 2 sizes too small in everything for it to fit DD!

Yes, the Paris stuff is awfulSad

bigTillyMint · 09/01/2015 17:28

Cross-post Molly - phew! 2pm on Sunday (given that it was practically dark at 4 todaySad) I will be coming by bus or on foot I think!

NU, just the very words corned beef hash bring back a vile taste of something my DM cooked when I was about 7Grin

MollyAir · 09/01/2015 17:45

BTM, I'll come by train to Herne Hill Station.

Monty, is Sunday at 2pm any good for you?

addle · 09/01/2015 18:10

phew! I thought it was Sunday too. looking forward to seeing you. we could do a circuit to DP?

not posting much but reading and thinking of you all and sending sympathy and bracing pats on the back all round.

the hush stuff looks lovely

DS did his Latin GCSE today - had failed to mention it chez nous (as he wouldn't say). gulp.

lalsy · 09/01/2015 18:17

Secret GCSE taking, that's the business Grin. What teenagers get up to eh?

Love to join you Sunday if I can - will have to see on the day.

Sshh, but ds has just swung a badly timed sleepover by getting dressed up in what he thinks are "indie" clothes.....a cord shirt of dh's and a small nylon rucksack cover stretched over a box attached to his head, a bit like Cardinal Wolsey's headgear. He looks so peculiar, and was so pleased with himself, Sensiblemum crumbled. Grin

herbaceous · 09/01/2015 18:30

Meet ups - can't do brockwell park, as it's bleedin' miles away, but have fun. Russell Square I can only do in the afternoon, as it have lectures in the morning. So any time between 1 and 3...

I went a bit cray cray in the charity shop this arvo. Found a pair of All Saints fringed ankle boots, leather, for £10. They're pretty worn, but as such look totally ROCK. I also got an All Saints sweatshirt, with kind of reinforced bits. Slight error - thought it was a US 8, whereas it's a UK8. So rather snugger than it's probably designed to be.

Yet another teaching observation today. Not as good, this time. Teaching three of the myriad future forms and uses. Got a bit bogged down. And asked my half Muslim class whether they'd had a sherry at new year. Blush.

bigTillyMint · 09/01/2015 18:34

Shall we say we will meet at the main gates (near HH station) at 2 then? And do a circuit/whatever we can manage?

addleShock I had no idea there were any GCSE's going on ATM! Fat chance of DD not mentioning any of hers!

Lalsy I hope you got a pic! How did his mocks go? DD is off to a paaaarty tonight, and is threatening to wear her tracky bottoms. DH and I have tried to persuade her into at least wearing jeans!

MollyAir · 09/01/2015 18:37

Herbs, I could get to Russell Square by 1.30 on Thurs Jan 29.

Rosebag, would that still be OK for you?

QueenQueenie · 09/01/2015 18:40

Brockwell Park - do a circuit for me...

Russell Square - I could do that on 29th! Could be there from 1 but would need to leave 2ish... Can I join in please?
