More crepey wisdom.....

Hope the first day went well, addle!

Back to work properly tomorrow (was working from home today and discovered an unwelcome pile of emails from Americans who clearly didn't get the UK memo about not bothering people during last week of December, sigh). Boss has cheerfully emailed about setting some goals for this year and to give some thought to what they might be. Have no brain cells just yet for that, will have to postpone until Feb.

Sorry to hear re black dogs circling - mine is a hormonal creature mainly, turning up for several days every month and making me want to weep constantly, torch the house, divorce dh and have the children adopted by a better mother. I cling on in a this-too-will-pass way, but it frustrates me enormously as it's just such a waste of time and energy.

wilbur · 05/01/2015 19:57

About to drag my January flab to keep fit. Hate keep fit.

Rudy, I love my Karndean!

I have just accompanied my friend to the most crepey activity going. Knitting Club in the PubGrin

motherinferior · 05/01/2015 22:15

Our house is chaotic. I would like to make radical changes to our living-room but DP will get huffy if I move the horrid photo of his brother and the Princess Bride.

MollyAir · 05/01/2015 22:28

In the throes of insomnia last night, I was reading a FWR thread about "knitting the anger out". I had never thought of that one. The poster said the resulting garments turned out fine. I am seriously thinking of trying it.

Agree with you on the floor, Rudy (although I'm loving my Karndean bathroom floor).

BTM - our broadband is unlimited, however, with so many devices using the WiFi the bandwidth is so reduced that the newer/more temperamental devices, such as our brand new Windows 8 laptop, just throw you off the Internet every ten minutes. This drives me mental. We are also tied to Virgin for a while yet, as we renegotiated the contract less than a year ago. But it isn't going to cost too much to double the line speed and hopefully save my sanity. I am trying to teach the DCs to switch off WiFi on devices they aren't using, and save massive downloads for when we are out of the house.

Naughty mummy did DS's homework for him this evening, in return for a shoulder massage. Blush In my defence his shoulder manages are legendary his homework was to decorate and cover his History book - I mean, is he nine years old?? I did make him select and print the pictures he wanted, then I did the cutting and sticking. It took me two minutes, but he would have made an utter hash of it. Fine motor skills have never been his forte but did I mention he gives the best shoulder massages ? Grin

I have been hoovering up Christmas tree needles and the hoover has protested. I think we will need a new one.

We live in a listed building and it is an utter pain in the arse if you want to do anything remotely radical inside, never mind outside.

What on earth were you doing up at four o'clock, Rudy?

BTM, Grin re Last Tango. I love the idea of knitting in the pub, but can't quite get my head round it.

We're awake and having tea in bed before the GC arrive at 7.30 for breakfast. DS moves into new house today so we'll pop around later when we take the GC back to see how they are getting on. We're debating on whether to go on the bus to town (ie Newcastle), or the Metro to the coast.

bigTillyMint · 06/01/2015 07:19

CV, that is interesting that the number of devices on wifi affect the connection. I will tell my DC about that - we have 8 devices I think...

Rudy, we have dark wood-look and I love it, but maybe you should stick with stone (and have cold feet and smash everything you dropWink) although real wood could be the answer - reclaimed?

No, NU, it was very strange. But there were 14 of us, and most were younger than meShock And we got free (and very nice) chips, so I may try it again!

MrsS, I want to get a new hoover, although our Dyson is still working. What are you thinking of getting?

Rudy, that's what we did - it was slate/laminate and it is so much better all the same thing now!

Blackduck · 06/01/2015 08:44

The horror of the first day back has struck - couldn't do up one pair of trousers and am feeling incredibly lardy.... added to which my office is freezing (please god not another big row with estates.....)

Rosebag · 06/01/2015 08:48

At least the knitting is in the pub, Tilly and not in the village hall! That makes it a bit more rock and roll. I haven't knitted for years…used to quite like it, actually although I wasn't much good once I'd make a mistake…

CV that made me laugh….about the homework and the massage. Funnily enough my DD is hopeless at anything like sticking straight, cutting etc (despite some talent for art) but she has wonderful massage hands…she gives a great food rub Grin I see what you mean about your wall and the nice van driver. It's hard to be ruthless when they're 'nice chaps', isn't it. I've got a problem with our gardener…really nice guy, totally likeable but an absolutely useless gardener. He also decided to pressure wash our drive and patio one day. It is now crumbling away... I just don't know how to get rid.

Good luck to BD and MrsS re job exit plans. Today I am going to check out a church hall I have to teach in for the next 2 Saturdays. It's not the way I like to work but the course I'm suppose to be teaching at the moment was cancelled, plus I agreed to cover this one for another teacher who cannot now be there. DH has to come with to help set up, as my back just can't take schlepping all the equipment in and out of the car.

Gosh! I have the house to myself…all DC back at school at last….

motherinferior · 06/01/2015 09:29

Our new very expensive 'it'll last 10 years' washing machine has shrunk my previously vast jumper dress. It looks quite nice, but I must ask DP to get to grips with the cold wash setting.

(There are, I should explain, reasons why DP does the washing. Mainly to do with an epic row 10 years ago. Grin)

motherinferior · 06/01/2015 09:30

Perhaps it's time for the knitting picture again

I do love that photo Mi. Very Bowie-esque Grin

My austerity eating is not going well. Epic fail, in fact. Have just eaten a panini and a granola bar in Starbucks following a) checking teaching venue for Saturday which is bloody freezing, dark and has a key arrangement that I just KNOW I'm going to balls up. b) getting a smug, useless reply from the head of art at DDs school to my desperate email asking for her to have a bit more encouragement instead of a list of unreachable targets. And c) seeing the February play writing festival billed on the theatre website and in emails without my play. Sad Angry Sad Angry

Blackduck · 06/01/2015 15:44

Let us about the epic row MI!

BTM - I am not sure that helps....

beachyhead · 06/01/2015 16:19

That's awful Rose Hmm

Did you have any inkling or has anyone had the courtesy to tell you why?

motherinferior · 06/01/2015 16:42

The ER involved me blowing up about how I did All This Washing Every Day (I was working from home) and DP saying Actually You Keep Putting Away Wet Washing and things went on from there and then he Seized Control of the machine and now gets huffy and takes it as a personal attack if one does any washing at all, which is overall gratifying but can be faintly annoying if you're thinking it might be nice to have clean pants.

Today I am mainly feeling a failure. But have managed an hour of my own writing though no exercise.
