Can I add Cheddar cheese and brinjal pickle to the sandwich walk of fame?

We are having left over chicken paprikas tonight, with red cabbage, gnocchi and sour cream. We have a nice Hungarian Gruner Veltliner to wash it down (not as good as the Austrian, but half the price) and will have the nice dense cheesecake to follow. There is nothing light about Eastern European cuisine, it does lend itself to the winter months. Although I do make a nice cold soup, with beetroot, sour cream, cucumber and dill. It comes with a bit of hard boiled egg plonked on top and some crayfish.

Spent this afternoon in Forever 21 with DD2 (shoot me now), who was trying on jeans and more jeans. We left with one pair of black jeans, some black shorts and a T shirt, then went to Johnny Loulou's and raided the foodhall (which was looking a bit sparse).

I am in awe of the plumbing expertise. And three cheers for NUCat's recovery!

bigTillyMint · 03/01/2015 19:36

I can confirm that MrsS's red cabbage recipe is a good one. And easySmile

motherinferior · 03/01/2015 19:42

I went for green, of courseGrin.

motherinferior · 03/01/2015 19:45

And am now multi-screening myself. Cracked 1,000 words of the feature including, I hope, the most complicated bit. The next 800 will be simple. I hope.

QueenQueenie · 03/01/2015 20:03

Good choice MI! Grin

I have the crepiest of all crepey questions - in honour of Saturday night. I am still searching for the perfect slipper - I work at home (in slippers), get very cold feet, will fall down the stairs given half a chance, and overpronate/have fallen arches/something so I want something with a bit of structure and sole that I can walk properly in. I am wondering about spending Christmas dosh on fitflop slippers. Any other suggestions? They can't be floppy or sloppy.

Auriga · 03/01/2015 21:50

Oooh I forgot to mention that I have some S&B news too. I bought the Kaliko lace twist dress (can't seem to do do link on iPad) mainly because it's a good colour for me. The shape & style work well too and I've already enjoyed wearing it twice.

Just back from York, glad to be home again especially as I've caught a horrible cold/sore throat (was dreaming about swallowing scissors last night). Some glimmers of improvement in sisters' mental health; one is nearly ready to go back to work but the other still has a long way to go. Nephews and nieces all in great form, though.

We've brought DM back with us. She is treating me even more like a toddler than usual. Was quite tempted to leave her behind :(

hattymattie · 03/01/2015 21:51

I like those slipper booties in imitation sheepskin that are available in Accesorize Lalsy but I'm not sure they're what you're looking for.

BTM how much vinegar as opposed to sugar did you put in the cabbage recipe? I think mine was a little too vinegary so I need to refine it.

Auriga · 03/01/2015 21:54

Cross-post. Sounds as though you need house shoes, lalsy, not slippers. Slippers are dangerous even for people not usually prone to falling downstairs.

lalsy · 03/01/2015 22:00

I like them too Hatty, but need more of a sole - I have found the fitflop ones reduced, mouse hovering now...

Auriga, I'm glad things are looking up a little.

wilbur · 03/01/2015 22:13

Lalsy - take a look at Homey slippers, sorry can't link am on phone. I did a lot of googling of house shoes/slippers and although I loved various Scandinavian brands, they were £££. Homeys were cheaper and I am thrilled with them - v comfy, sole is tough but flexible and they come up nice and high on my foot.

wilbur · 03/01/2015 22:20

And aren't fitflop slippers in a mule style? Mules not great if you're prone to tripping. I have frozen feet too, warm slippers are right up there with oxygen for my life to function.

QueenQueenie · 03/01/2015 22:23

Hi Auriga,
Good to hear that things with your sisters are looking up - even if your mother is being a leeetle trying... My mother wished me a Happy Christmas by txt message - and today a thank you by txt too Hmm

I've organised an extended family belated Christmas lunch at my Dad's behest for tomorrow - he wanted me to take on all the responsibility for the arrangements... and is now criticising what I've arranged Hmm. Wish me strength to keep smiling?

Can you come on the 6th? Hope so!

QueenQueenie · 03/01/2015 22:32

I'm on an s and b sale roll...

Found this skater skirt in my local m and s and it's surprisingly nice In black rather than maroon natch.

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/01/2015 22:42

I have these slippers Lalsy. (I know, I know, you will all be wondering wtf I am doing on an S & B thread, although I know Stropps liked them before when I was dithering about getting them.) I didn't pay anywhere near that price for them though. I quite fancy these as well

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/01/2015 22:46

You could skip along yodelling in these Grin

GrinGrin Thanks, you lot are great. Apologies for corrupting the effortless elegance of S and B Grin.

I love those Homeys, Wilbur. And they seem to have a raised arch bit. The fitflop ones are mules but solid ones with a collar and I am used to doing the fitflop grip (why are my slipper comments sounding like song lyrics?) Just spluttered my tea, MrsS, and off to google sale Geisswein because I think I may need those too. Three pairs if slippers is perfectly reasonable, no?

MollyAir · 03/01/2015 23:22

On the subject of a Cambridge meet-up, Woman's Hour did a piece on the Monday after Xmas about buying clothes in charity shops - they recorded it in Burleigh St, Cambridge, which they said was marvellous for charity shops. All them posh but ethically correct dons, I'm guessing, giving away their gorgeous clothes for us plebs to pick up.

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/01/2015 00:37

If you have the Fitflop Grip, I think it would have to be the Giesswein Shuffle.

hattymattie · 04/01/2015 08:16

I'm pondering Mary Beard's old raincoats.Wink

bigTillyMint · 04/01/2015 09:08

Seems like I missed a great night in S&B newsGrin
Auriga, glad you had a good time with your family.
QQ Good Luck today!

Feeling knackered (didn't get to bed till after 1) but semi-virtuous - managed to keep up dry-January resolution, despite many bottles of fizz being poured. Shame I couldn't keep my paws off the nibbles too.

Last day of the holidaysSad
Am contemplating whether to go to watch DS's match this afternoon...

lalsy · 04/01/2015 09:13

Saturday nights don't get better than that, BTM.

MrsS, Grin
