More crepey wisdom.....

OP posts:
Blackduck · 03/01/2015 12:53

Erm MrsS you certainly wouldn't be missed in that.....

motherinferior · 03/01/2015 13:08

I have pmd you Soup That Hardly Counts As Cooking recipe, Lalsy. Having just made a similar soup of Lingering Roots - quite like BTM's parsnip recipe but even simpler, as I peeled and chopped the parsnips and carrots, scattered over various ground spices (cumin, coriander and turmeric) and some chilli flakes (frankly you could use a decent curry powder and nobody'd know), roasted them (chucked in a bit of water when they looked as if they might be toughening up a bit) and blended them into stock.

lalsy · 03/01/2015 13:37

Brilliant, thanks MI. Soup of Lingering Roots...mmm how delightfully melancholic...perhaps the starting point for new line of designer Mood Soups?

I like the coat MrsS but MI is right.Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/01/2015 14:00

We had "Sunshine Soup", which was designed to get DD2 to eat more vegetables when she was younger - carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, parsnips. She refused to eat these individually, but would eat the soup with enthusiasm.

I love the idea of mood soups. Lingering roots or sad vegetables when you are feeling like wallowing, and something more uplifting for other days.

motherinferior · 03/01/2015 14:01

DP just looked hopefully at the Lingering Meringues and suggested that as he's going to Sainsbury's he picks up some cream for "that pudding" (ie Eton mess with frozen raspberries). My 2015 abstinence is not going well, really. Especially not with the Lingering Stilton that also found its way into my soup-accompanying bagel....

motherinferior · 03/01/2015 14:03

BTW I have some spicy peanut butter my lovely cousin gave me in Auroville. It is divine.

bigTillyMint · 03/01/2015 14:38

MI, if it was in our house, the jar would be bare emptyGrin

I hate stilton, so that's not a problem. Wensleydale, however...

NUFC69 · 03/01/2015 15:10

MI, and Lalsy, definitely on the mend, thanks. I did think of you, MI, as I tucked in to my delicious lasagne at lunchtime. I do love pasta but try not to have it too often. I thought that lasagne was marginally better than tagliatelle carbonara which is my usual go-to at the Italian.
DH has discovered lots of lingering vegetables in the garage so I can see soup calling me. I have no idea what is there because it's such a long time since I wrote out the list for the greengrocers. We also have Wensleydale and Cranberry lurking, plus some Stilton. I have discovered that if I wrap cheese in waxed paper from Lakeland it lasts well.

DCat, by the way, doesn't have cancer and the pancreatis can be treated. It's about time I got my breast cancer scan results back while we're on the subject.

motherinferior · 03/01/2015 15:20

Hurrah for Dcat! Ours remains peeing all over the floor not in a good way. When do you here about scan?

I am wrestling with a feature so complicated it actually makes me feel sick. I have sort of arranged a structure now so I shall start. I have about 10,000 words - mostly cut and pasted from other reports and much not very relevant - to condense into 1,800 which actually have to tackle the subject. And the worst thing is I suggested it originally.

BTM, peanut butter works well mixed with lime pickle on toast.

NUFC69 · 03/01/2015 15:27

MI, two to three weeks so I should hear soon. It's interesting that it's quick for the cat....

No suggestions from me re your article: it sounds like a nightmare. You have probably realised by now that I waffle - I always have to give the back story, so I couldn't do your job.

Rosebag · 03/01/2015 15:30

I don't think there's any chance of me resuming austerity eating until the kids go back to school. This weekend…forget it. The weather's lousy and we are in the midst of homework screaming. The only compensation is carbs and empty calories.

Nooooo MrsS Just no. Unless they have it at least 2 sizes down…..

I have just taken delivery of a Baukjen sweater that I'd forgotten I'd had on back order here
No sale bargain to boast of…stupid price really, but I did have a 20% discount voucher at the time of purchase. It looks a bit boxier on me than on the model owing to my lumps curves.

MI I am similarly full of catarrh. Three weeks and counting. And terrified of it going to my chest and also of going deaf like I did 2 years ago with eustachian tube dysfunction.

You all sound like you are making such wonderful meals. Am I the only Crepey who just can't be arsed at the moment. We had fish fingers for lunch with supermarket potato salad, baked beans and leftover veg from last night Blush

NU glad you and DCat are getting better.

motherinferior · 03/01/2015 15:42

Rose, I am guiltily aware I cooked bugger-all over Christmas! Seriously.

motherinferior · 03/01/2015 16:58

And supper is going to be 'that fish thing you do with pasta' ie sardines and anchovies, all heated and mashed deliciously. With salad. Like the pudding, it is delicious but barely counts as cooking.

Rosebag · 03/01/2015 17:12

Grin MI it gets worse. The DC have a 6pm call at the theatre tonight. They have just had supper….melted cheese on toast with a bit of Branston, and Onken Lite for dessert. Not a vegetable in sight….unless you count the pickle.

beachyhead · 03/01/2015 17:18

We are big fans of 'green soup' here, even when they hear what's in it - leeks, spinach (lots) and onions, all of which dd2 would die rather than eat.....

I have done a good but unpleasant thing today - I've sourced and changed the loo seat on my dad's loo. Lying on my back under a loo, with a pair of pliers, undoing washers. I am indeed a saint!

Off to a friends 50th tonight, but its so cold out there and so comfy at home, I'm going to have to be dragged into a posh frock and into the car! Not that I have a posh frock.....

I'm glad your cat is improving, NU and that all of you are getting better in health. We have all been strangely well this Christmas.

Talking of HM's stress of all children being in all rooms, dh's new bug bear is the multi-tasking of children looking at laptops/ipads/phones while watching telly. It drives him quite insane and shouty. I, on the other hand, would prefer them all to be downstairs in one room, even if they are multi-screening. I'm quite a dab hand at it too. We all think its just because he can't do it Grin

Blackduck · 03/01/2015 17:19

Peanut butter and lime pickle? Mummmm...

Here dp (birthday boy) had 'divorced eggs' for breakfast and we are having fish curry, soy potatos and roasted kale for dinner, followed by a cheese board a. To make up for the lump of blue DDog pinched at Christmas and b. Because dp likes cheese more than cake....

I took tree down today, nagged Ds about his piano and music homework and am generally feelin meh - not helped by the weather which is ghastly here.

motherinferior · 03/01/2015 17:48

Lord, Beachy, you are a saint. I have to admit to a double-take that it's Saturday!

Multi-screening annoys me madly too.

I must crack this chunk of copy before cooking. And pouring myself a glass of wine. I might as well admit I'm going to....

bigTillyMint · 03/01/2015 17:52

Just went out dog-walking with her friend. Her dog is impeccably behaved, but we took her neighbours dog too, who refused to get back on her leash. For about half an hour. Another reason not to get a dog! Plus loads of other dog-walkers with very muddy dogs who would have needed hosing down when they got back...

DD has gone for a run with a friend, having done at least some revision!

We are off round to a neighbours for drinks and nibbles after 8.30. Not sure what we should eat before, but I'm staaaarving!

hattymattie · 03/01/2015 17:55

Well done Beachy not sure I could have done the loo seat job.

I love lime pickle and was addicted to it when expecting DS!

DH is currently trying (and failing) to recreate a cocktail we had in Venice. This is his second attempt and its still not right. I'd honestly prefer a beer but don't want to upset him.

bigTillyMint · 03/01/2015 17:56

And in S&B news, I am wearing this which is very comfy and warm!

NUFC69 · 03/01/2015 18:01

I am amazed at your "plumbing" expertise, Beachy. It's at times like that I nag DH (and then there are those strange occasions when he suddenly decides to do something off his own bat....).

We ended up at St Mary's Island this afternoon (well on the landside of the Causeway). Tyneside and his/her dog were out in force as it was a pleasant afternoon. I am, however, still gazing at the remains of the tree in the conservatory.

NUFC69 · 03/01/2015 18:03

Cross post, BTM. That's lovely, but it would add to the width of my backside, I am afraid. I bet it looks lovely on you.

motherinferior · 03/01/2015 18:10

I am awaiting my new jumper. And my new pants. I shall wear jeans too.

motherinferior · 03/01/2015 18:40
QueenQueenie · 03/01/2015 19:14
