I think so yes! My main rules (well, the ones I find easiest to stick to and that seem to work best for me) are expensive fabrics with some texture or a bit of bling. Classic with a twist if you will. No cap sleeves, peter pan collars or anything too flowy and romantic either. I think one of my celebrities was C Z-J?

Not sure if this trench coat I like is a winter ice pink, in RL it has a blue/pastel tint. Putting it to the MN winters!

fooogle · 05/03/2015 19:47

duck sorry, hard to say about ice pink except to say see in rl? Annoying I know!
Mostly In boyfriend jeans, black crew with black white stripe vest poking out today... Red lippy...
Other winters? How about you?

SorrelForbes · 05/03/2015 20:29

Mostly work wear at moment, black or navy trousers with silk tshirts, a jacket and high heels. Loving my Chanel Passion lipstick.

Winterwalks · 05/03/2015 20:47

Boden shortish flare skirt ( thought they would make my hips very big but surprisingly flattering) chosen by HOC style person
Bright tops or cardigans - emerald, pink - looking for more
Leggings black or navy to match
Biker boots
It's a look put together with stylist - I feel very comfortable in it

didireallysaythat · 05/03/2015 23:25

winterwalk - very jealous ! At my style day I found out no skirts above the knees (I'm too old), no leggings and no bikers boots. Guess what my stand uniform is.... Yup....

Picastyle · 06/03/2015 08:44

Do any of you use kettlewell? I wondered about the quality and sizing. Seems an idiot's guide to getting our colours right if they are any good.

TinyLittleOne · 06/03/2015 09:22

I would be interested too Pica. I like a few of their items and I am happy to pay, if the quality is good.

They also have the ice colours, which seem difficult to pick up on the high street.

Duckdeamon · 06/03/2015 09:27

I have found kettle well tops good quality but have always waited for the sales! They often have a few colours on half price. Need to be washed on cool and ironed. Sizing is similar to M&S or Boden, smaller than Next or h&m IMO! I'm 5'8" and size 14 (BMI 25) and kettlewell size large for tops

QueenCardigan · 06/03/2015 10:04

Hello winters. I've never bought clothes from kettlewell as most of their tops have elastane in them which I hate. I've got a couple of scarves from there though.

I'm bored of the jeans, boots, blouse, cardi combo but until it warms up I can't imagine doing anything different. Wearing navy blouse and Chinese blue cardi today which looks good as I suit the blues best. I'd definitely like a Chinese/lagoon blue top.

I find it fascinating about the styles. I'm an ingenue natural but for me natural means comfort and nothing too tailored but I definitely can't wear anything too sack like-I need some shape. The ingenue for me is all shout detsiling-small collars, pintucks, embroidery etc.

Picastyle · 06/03/2015 15:46

Thanks for the kettlewell feedback. No do a object to paying that much for a tee if I'm honest.

In desperation I've booked a JL personal shopper for next week. I'm fed up with trying to choose stuff myself. I hope they don't mind me taking my swatch!!

Picastyle · 06/03/2015 15:47

No do a ?? I think I typed I do object.

NowhereNow · 06/03/2015 16:50

I bought some tops in the Kettlewell sale and found them good quality. Might just be coincidence but I preferred the colours that were winter only e.g sapphire or fuchsia, rather than the ones that crossover with other seasons.

pinkbadger · 06/03/2015 19:58

No skirts above the knee as too old didisaythat! Age is irrelevant.
Today I wore navy and black striped boat neck 3/4 sleeve fitted T-shirt, grey jersey blazer, black 100 denier opaque tights, black suede ankle boots and...black denim shorts. Would probably make the 'nothing short past 40' brigade faint. But bumped into 4 old school mates I'd not seen in 31 years and was told I looked stunning (I think they meant in a good way!) Grin

RaisingSteam · 06/03/2015 22:26

I've got kettlewell tops in I think sapphire and mole, they were worth it to get the right colours.
I am well over 40 but because of my proportions and being gamine was told no skirts below the knee - it does depend. I'm liking the mini skirt leggings and boots thing wonder if I can do a version of it.

Has anyone been caught out by the warm weather and got no summer tops?

didireallysaythat · 06/03/2015 23:45

pink that's my problem with my style diagnosis. I checked what "pretty shoes" are. Bloody hideous is what they are. Fooofy footwear should not be allowed. On me at least !

winterwalks · 07/03/2015 18:00

Did I really
I'm pushing 50 and she choose them for me
I was worried it was a bit young but I love them and feel very me in them.

didireallysaythat · 07/03/2015 20:51

winterwalks remind me of your style ? I want to be you. No skinnies, straight trousers or skirts above the knees allowed here. I'm not ready to turn frumpy ?

winterwalks · 07/03/2015 22:11

I am natural injenue
The stylist said forest princess/ Rock chic
I like comfort, natural fabrics, slightly hippy, bohemian
I do like pretty but not flounces or bows
the style is very similiar to what I wore in my 20s
Short skirt, black tights and DMs
I think I have returned to my roots

givemeaminute · 09/03/2015 20:18

It's been ages since I've been on this board, but have lurked and seen all the lovely things you are wearing! I'm a burnished winter, natural classic style. The problem that I have is finding clothes with patterns. I've almost got the hang of finding clothes in good colours - makes shopping quicker - but I almost always end up with plain clothes without a pattern. Patterns are often a mix of colours that aren't Winter colours. How strict should I be about them?

How do others get on? Any great buys recently that are patterned and fit with the Winter colours?

standingonlego · 09/03/2015 20:25

Rediscovered this thread Smile. Short gamine winter with new hair success to report - just had it cut back into a chin length bob and a darker brown and been swamped with positive compliments Blush

Now...I need an awesome outfit for my significant birthday in a few weeks time, any suggestions oh wise women? Grin

QueenCardigan · 10/03/2015 11:26

Hi winters.
Love your description of NI winter. I used to wear shorts skirts and dms in my youth but can't imagine wearing anything too clumpy now. I'm with you on the pretty but without the flounces and bows.
standing was it you that started a thread recently about the dress. If not then there was a very recent thread from a winter DG with lots of good dress links.

Off to London on Saturday so will hopefully have some new purchases to link. Just I the process of going through my summer clothes and working out what to chuck and what to keep.

janfebmarch · 10/03/2015 11:49

Hi - can I ask a question about make-up please? I've recently been diagnosed as jewel winter and I can see that I look better in high contrast make-up. My hair is very dark and my skin is very pale so I already have high contrast in my colouring. For the past couple of months, I've been loving wearing bright pinks, reds, burgundys for lipsticks and also a dark line of gel eyeliner, or some grey eyeshadow just smudged along my upper lash line to give a soft eyeshadow / eye liner effect. But for summer I am really confused about what will work for eyes. I will wear more pinks than burgundys for lipstick as this seems more summery, but I'm really stuck for eyes. Everything I've been doing seems too wintery as I always think of make up in the summer being light and fairly bare but since having my diagnosis, I can really see that my eyes need some definition to go with the high contrast look. Any ideas or am I overthinking it?

QueenCardigan · 10/03/2015 22:01

I can't be much help jane as I don't tend to wear eye make up unless im going out.

standingonlego · 10/03/2015 22:22

Not me queen but will go hunt that thread down Smile
