Remember our chats??

Our SOTD (scent of the day)?

Is there a thread I've missed Shock

If not, lets take it up here :)

SOTD an unknown sample from my perfume drawer, woodsy and irisy, am baffled but enjoying it!

OP posts:
TweenageAngst · 10/02/2015 06:55

On me: top notes of orange and lime come over as a very sugary lemon sherbet. It settles into a resinous, light wood but again on me the sugary citrus just persists too long. I love at about 8 hours but cant cope that long.

Toys will post on Friday. I hope you enjoy it.

Hi to all the new members!
Sotd is Guerlains Champs Elysees. Its February and time for the first spring flowers to appear.I'm in a cloud of Almond and Lilac blossom with the gentle mildness of Mimosa.I was also kept awake for several hours last night by a pair of noisy owls who apparently become very active this time of year.

No I've never seen them.I think Tawny owls are rarely seen. But I think one of these was calling to its mate right in front of my bedroom window. As it caused me and youngest ds to wake in fright with ds asking me what that noise was.Its really quite a spooky sound.I could hear the calls fading at one point and then the pair returned noisily.

TweenageAngst · 10/02/2015 18:53

Wishing I was in your conservatory Vix, I love Mimosa it reminds me of the Cootamundra wattle of my Australian childhood

ToysRLuv · 10/02/2015 19:23

Thanks, Tween! I love candied citrus peel, so have high hopes..

Sotd: CdG Ouarzazate. I love this one and especially Jaisalmer.

ToysRLuv · 10/02/2015 19:25

I'm thinking quicker than I write - I'm talking about the CdG Incense series, of course..

pocketandsweet · 10/02/2015 21:59

SOTD: marine sel by tokyo milk. I'm so in love with it. Very foggy.

pocketandsweet · 10/02/2015 22:00

Make that " figgy". :)

canny1234 · 11/02/2015 14:54

Sotd is Iris Poudre from a sample.I've heard so much about this but am really not keen on Iris perfumes ( apart from Amyris femme). But it smells divine - smooth and creamy and musky.

I've discovered I really like musky perfumes - Roses Musk,Iris Poudre and Laine de Verre by Lutens. Not surprising because I grew up with The Body Shops White Musk.

However most modern musks I've tried I hate ie.Narciso Rodriguez Musk is vile,as is Lovely and Lutens Clair de Musc.
Have any of you discovered a new genre of perfume that you now love but previously disliked?

ToysRLuv · 11/02/2015 15:04

Sotd: Musc Ravageur

Yes, I really like clean muscs. Had forgotten how nice MR is. Wish it wasn't so pricey.. The other mus I adore is Nicolai's Musc Intense. Mmmmm...

ToysRLuv · 11/02/2015 15:10

Canny: Previously hated Oud, but now quite like it. Especially in Montale's Red Oud and White Oud, JHaG Midnight Oud and (bizarrely) The Body Shop Amber Oud.

CalicoBlue · 11/02/2015 16:01

My SOTD is Jasmine Rouge by Tom Ford. I love Jasmine fragrances, but some can be overpowering. I used to wear Jo Malone's Jasmine and Honeysuckle, but the discontinued it. I think the Jasmine Rouge is the nearest I can find to it.

Tweenage angst-I googled Cootamundra wattle, and its the same plant I think. Mine is in a big pot and is out all summer but doesn't do well in frosts so comes indoors for the Winter. It almost died a few years back when it was minus twelve in my garden and I had left it out by accident. I lost its top,all that was alove was the lower trunk, but it grew new shoots and has formed again. If you are somewhere warmish then it would survive being planted out, there was one in London that was huge.
I have a different species of acacia, blue-er leaves, no scent, that is outside, and so far is ok, but we have had two mild Winters on the trot, so its a wait and see job.
SOTD Mimosa pour Moi. Obv.

UsernameAlreadyInUse · 12/02/2015 12:19

Hello Perfumistas! I have been lurking for ages and need some advice. I love perfume but find it oh so tricky to find something I love. My favourite for years has been Hermes 24 Faubourg. I can't find anything to compare.

I would love to learn more about perfume and was thinking of asking for a perfume course for my birthday. Probably just a half day one as I can't spare more than that at the weekends. Does anyone have any recommendations. I have googled and googled and made myself dizzy. I'm in London.

TweenageAngst · 12/02/2015 12:40

Vix I had no idea they could live in London outside. Off to google cootamundra wattle UK.

SirVixofVixHall · 12/02/2015 13:08

The Cootamundra wattle is Acacia Baileyana, there is also Acacia Dealbata, used as an ornamental shrub, and lots of other wattles. I have no idea which one mine is, possibly mine is Baileyana, and the one in my garden Dealbata, I will try and find out. But anyway mine came from Camden Garden Centre, and they had a huge one there growing happily outside. i am in West Wales now so not as warm as London. If you are in London I think you could risk planting outside. It really was a massive tree in Camden, so had been through a lot of winters. I love the look of the blossom as well as the scent. My "going away" outfit when I got married was a late 40s dress and jacket embroidered all over with Mimosa.

goodasitgets · 12/02/2015 20:08

So my perfumes arrived today from 4160 Tuesday's
I got what I did on my holidays, sexiest scent on the planet. Then two big samples (handbag size) Ealing green and their new one centrepiece

TweenageAngst · 13/02/2015 08:33

Vix my little sister hand made my wedding invites and place cards. They were both decorated with paintings of Cootamundra Wattle. Your dress sounds lovely. Looking forward to tracking down my own Acacia plants.

ScienceRocks · 13/02/2015 09:03

Username, Sarah McCartney at 4160tuesdays does perfume days. You do sniffing in the morning and making in the afternoon, it really is very good. She's in Acton.

canny1234 · 13/02/2015 13:34

Diorella today which really smells like acrid cheap soap on me.Dh has just asked what that horrible smell is?
I haven't found a Dior yet that smells good on me at all unfortunately.
Can anyone recommend me a Montale?
I'm going to order a treasure box with 3×20 mls bottles. One of them will be Roses Musk but I need to test the other 2.I'm also not sure where to order Montale samples from apart from a few in Scent samples.co.uk.

SirVixofVixHall · 13/02/2015 15:34

I love Diorella, but it isn't as delicious since re-formulation. And Miss Dior has been wrecked, tragic.
tweenage, that sounds lovely. Did you have it in your bouquet? I think one of my shrubs was from Crocus, so worth seeing if they have any. You will need to type the latin name into the search engine I think (acacia baileyana).

leedy · 13/02/2015 16:10

SOTD: Aedes de Venustas EDP, which makes me smell like a pleasantly green tomato.

"CdG Ouarzazate"

The only thing I can remember about the smell of actual Ouarzazate was a rather nice lamb meatball tagine, I presume that's not what it smells like...

TweenageAngst · 13/02/2015 17:14

SOTD Elie Saab- Couture- lovely but short lived
