I wonder if anyone knows if the selling scheme for these products is above board. My DD has an American FB friend who sent her some 'revolutionary' mascara with which she was very pleased. This friend has now anounced that DD has joined the Younique sales team.I've read all the stuff on line about this and it does sound genuinine but as I'm a cynical old bag I wonder if any Mumsnetter's know more than the power of Google.TIA.

I guess it's horses for courses.

Some people like to have long eyelashes, I didn't think hers looked overdone, just nice and fluttery.

I have friends spamming Facebook about this now, and ALL the photos I've seen, including the ones on this thread, look bloody awful.

Why would anyone think that it looks good to have spidery lashes? It's pricey stuff that looks like it does a rubbish job, and the more I read / see about it the more I think that Confused

Fluttery? Oh dear!!!!!

Spider eyes are what women have, for decades, tried their damndest to avoid. Why do some now think they're nice looking? Confused

Oh I feel mean now, fcukfifa you have beautiful eyes - but you would look so much nicer with a better mascara. Which one do you use normally? I really rate the ysl fake lash ones for a dramatic look if that's your thing - Sorry for being mean before.

I think part of it might be a generational thibg, most of my friends have all being fans of big eyelashes.

Silly you wasn't mean Smile I'm not in any way associated with younique but I do actually like the fibre mascara for nights out when I would usually wear fake lashes.

I use a variety of mascaras, high end like dior show which i I hate and also the gold ysl one, I didn't like that either. I think I was expecting more for the price.
Day to day I wear just about any brand mascara and I'm reasonably happy with them.

I'm not sure it is generational. My niece is a sought after make up artist for magazine and show work and is 26. She thinks spidery eyelashes are awful and a bit D-list celeb. I know because she lectured DD about it 2 weeks ago. She mentioned Katie Price.

Pagwatch · 26/10/2014 19:21

Actually I'll ask her about 'younique' when I get home.

It's not generational. I'm 32, think they are horrific and do nothing for a woman, younger friends/relations are the same. There are also people my age or older who like the awful look.

Sadly, I think it's the over the top celebs who cause women wanting to look like this. Believe it or not, most people don't want to look fake and men don't go nuts for it either in that way, despite the assumption they do. Celebs just need to have their features noticed and in photos. If you saw them wearing the same stuff as they do in pics up close in real life you'd think they looked plastic

Why dislike of this look be generational? Unless you mean that you are too young to have acquired good taste? :)

IMO those spidery lashes look hideous and false - two good reasons to avoid the product. Would probably be fine for stage makeup, but not for RL.

Younique, surely Pagwatch?

The mascara I was using wasn't younique, it is a similar one though.

I only said generation thing as im 26, and nearly all of my friends wear fake lashes when they go out, which 10 years or so ago I don't think they was as popular.

I absolutely agree it's probably down to celebrity culture too, looking beautiful on camera is totally different to in the flesh.

I just thought that since I liked the mascara I would tell other people, and obviously no one else likes it Grin

So you posted a picture of you wearing a mascara which wasn't Younique to illustrate how good you think this product is? And how the people who buy into Younique are super smart?

Report
Fcukfifa · 26/10/2014 19:54

No the mascara I used isn't younique but it's the same kind of product, with the two tubes. One of transplanting gel and one of the fibres.
I have really short eyelashes and like the length it gives when I'm going out. And is cheaper than buying the £7 eyelashes that I usually wear for nights out.

I also said Ididn't like the whole multi level marketing approach taken by younique, it's like the juiceplus of make up.

If i found another beauty product I liked and thought genuinely worked then I would share in the same way.

Report
Pagwatch · 26/10/2014 20:10

You didn't at any stage post that the photo you posted was not actually Younique.
In fact everything you posted implied that it was Younique.

So, to be frank, what the actual fuck is the point of posting a similar type of mascara whilst implying heavily that it is Younique "only my second go using it - I like it"

Are you propping up my dimwit theory ?

Pagwatch · 26/10/2014 20:13

"If i found another beauty product I liked and thought genuinely worked then I would share in the same way."

What, by posting a picture of you using a different product
"I really love Tom Ford blusher. Look at this picture of me wearing a similar Chanel blusher"

Hmm

Pagwatch · 26/10/2014 20:16

Is your friend wearing soap and glory mascara on one eye and Younique on the other or are you using her picture to prove the point via
"here is another example of how good Younique mascara is, proven via a picture of a woman not wearing Younique but a different and unnamed mascara'

What is the other mascara. Perhaps you should suggest people just buy that?

Is it the one her friend will be selling and 'branding' herself? If so, it's a really bad advert for trying to sneakily get interest Wink

I'm confused. This whole mascara business is doing my head in.

And I thought the spelling was complicated enough.

Hold on.
Friend is wearing fibre mascara by girlfriend similar to Yo....whatever on the spidery eye and S&G on the non spidery.
