Face wash recommendations please

I desperately need your favourite face wash recommendations please. I find myself buying the latest ones on offer in Boots etc and none of them seem to do my skin any good. If it's of any use, I've got combination skin and no wrinkles yet but of the age I think it's advised to start taking a few preventative measures! Happy to splurge a little if I need to, to find something I love and becomes my face wash go to! Thank you in advance.

I adore Pure Melt Cleansing Gel by Clarins. Goes on like a rich gel which you massage into skin then when you rinse with water it turns to milk and washes away leaving lovely soft skin. A cheaper alternative is loreal miracle cleansing oil (think thats what its called!) which is similar but I find not as easy to apply because its an oil so it runs down your hands as you're applying it. Neither make your dkin greasy.

Cetaphil, cheap and very cheerful.
It softens, it moisturises, it calms, it comforts, it's brilliant stuff.
Ok it can't completely clean off mascara so I use one of many Micellar waters ( avene/ la Roche posay) on the shelves.

I have spent a fortune on Eve Lom etc but Cetaphil beats all the wonder lotions hands down.

Sleepwhenidie · 25/09/2014 21:54

I've just started using the new calendula foaming face wash by Kiehls and it is great.

bonhomme · 25/09/2014 21:58

Other than eve loom, I would recommend soap and glory peaches and clean. It is lovely.

Apatite1 · 25/09/2014 22:02

I currently use clinique liquid soap for oily skin. Other stuff tends to make me break out. However I'm mid 30s and probably need something a bit gentler. Any recommendations??

Bunbaker · 25/09/2014 22:05

The Body Shop vitamin E facial cleansing bar. It feels and behaves like soap, but isn't at all drying. I am 55 and have combination skin and it suits my skin beautifully.

It gets a high rating because it is so good.

Philoslothy · 25/09/2014 22:06

Clinique take the day of balm, bit of a bargain.

Wibblytummy · 25/09/2014 22:11

Oh some lovely ones here, thank you ladies. Ahh Apatite1 Clinque always gives me break outs, can't seem to use any of their stuff.

It is the only Clinique product I use as I don't get on with anything else.

cartsmar · 26/09/2014 23:28

Take the day off balm is great. I like lots of cleansers, currently using Liz Earle and a vitamin C oil one, and Ren.

Do buy a cleanser, not a soap or anything that foams. Whichever cleanser you get, massage into dry skin, then hold a hot wet flannel over your face, rinse then gently buff the muck off

Buy lots of flannels! Pound shop or Primark or Wilkos - use one a day and put in the wash. I have dark coloured ones.

Karbea · 26/09/2014 23:34

I love Cliniques take the day off balm, it's turned my skin around. I double cleanse with that and a clarins cream cleanser.

RufusTheReindeer · 26/09/2014 23:40

I do that hot oil thingy that's quite often on here

Bloody brilliant and cheap too

Apatite1 · 27/09/2014 11:20

Is take the day off suitable for oily skin? I still gets spots at 35, at least oily skin helps keep wrinkles at bay!

cartsmar · 27/09/2014 11:42

Yes I think anyone could use it.

I've always had oily skin but it is SO much better since I started using oils on it and stopped using things that are supposedly for oily skin that that actually strip it. I know use an oil cleanser and treatment oils.

Take the day off balm melts into an oily consistency. It's great.

plentyofshoes · 27/09/2014 11:47

I just use Clinique. It lasts forever.

southeastastra · 27/09/2014 11:51

i use liz earle cleanse and polish as it's just so neat and doesn't make a mess! at night i use body shop tea tree face wash, seems good to me.

msfreud · 27/09/2014 12:06

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish for me too. If I run out and try something else, my skin looks dull and/or breaks out within days.

AnonymousBird · 27/09/2014 12:43

Superdrug Vitamin E hot cloth cleanser.

Philoslothy · 27/09/2014 12:51

I get spots, although rarely do now.

I double cleanse with an oil cleanser.

queensansastark · 27/09/2014 13:00

I use Neal's yard wild rose beauty balm with a hot cloth at night.

In the mornings, I use the Aveda tourmaline charge cleanser or REN micropolishing (?) cleanser whilst having a shower.

Those are my go to cleansers, even though I try other things in between, I always go back to those.

Kundry · 27/09/2014 13:01

Another vote for Cetaphil.

Cleanser isn't really meant to 'do your skin good' - the ingredients are in contact with your skin for such a short time it's a waste to spend masses on cleanser with fancy ingredients. Preventative measures are SPF, acid toners and serum or moisturiser with anti-oxidants and retinol in, not cleanser.

It just needs to make your skin clean without being too harsh - so no foaming, no scrubby particles and preferably no fragrance. Cetaphil is fab, cheap and lasts forever.

seeminglyso · 27/09/2014 13:04

I love Dr Organics from Holland and Barrett as I have really sensitive skin. Also I use raw black African soap that I buy over ebay...amazing stuff!

luckygirl322 · 27/09/2014 13:06

LE Cleanse and Polish or Soap & Glory Peaches & Clean. Love them both!

imnottoofussed · 27/09/2014 13:07

I've been using biore deep pore charcoal cleanse and my skin has never felt better. A new colleague at work in conversation the other day said "well you've got great skin" trust me nobody has ever said that to me before!

cerealqueen · 27/09/2014 13:10

Dove unscented bar! Tempted by cetaphil now though!
