Face wash recommendations please

Wibblytummy · 25/09/2014 21:45

I desperately need your favourite face wash recommendations please. I find myself buying the latest ones on offer in Boots etc and none of them seem to do my skin any good. If it's of any use, I've got combination skin and no wrinkles yet but of the age I think it's advised to start taking a few preventative measures! Happy to splurge a little if I need to, to find something I love and becomes my face wash go to! Thank you in advance.

Waves to kirsten123 and MooMinCow - excited to see other Cetaphil and Cerave obsessives Grin

Also glad not to be the first person to mention Dr Sam Bunting on this thread, my skin care heroine. Unlike Caroline Hirons who recommends a load of massively overpriced stuff mainly from companies who pay her Dr Sam is a proper dermatologist and mainly recommends Cetaphil, Avene and LRP. I luffs her and her Q&A on her should be compulsory reading Smile

I use coal face soap from Lush. A £5 block lasts me about 3 months. It is made from charcoal and licorice and is the best thing I have ever used on my skin. I used to get horrendous spots but this soap has changed my life.

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/09/2014 18:23

Cetaphil. It has revolutionised my and DD1's skin.

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/09/2014 18:23

Or Bioderma micellar water.

deadwitchproject · 27/09/2014 18:26

Cetaphil for me too, wish I'd used it years ago.

kirsten123 · 27/09/2014 18:31

Waves at Kundry !!

I also luffs her - have met her in real life twice when I lived in London and was richer

Kundry · 27/09/2014 18:33

You've met her?

Am very very jealous.

cartsmar · 27/09/2014 18:41

Does Caroline hirons really get paid to promote everything? Shouldn't she be a bit more upfront about that then? I went off her when she started putting up bullshit quotes on her Instagram page. I digress... I did find her cheat sheet thing handy though back when I thought baby wipes were adequate skincare Grin

kirsten123 · 27/09/2014 18:48

Hi Kundry, yes, it's £200 per half hour!

She likes: retinoids (prescription only - over the counter is too weak)
She does not like: face powder, saunas (esp for acne sufferers)

She is very lovely and likes a glass of red wine!

I use the La Roche Posay one in the pump bottle in the shower, and in the evening either one of: Eve Lom (my fave) or Eve Lom clones like the Botanics one, or Liz Earle. Clarins alpine herbs cleanser. On my list to try is the new Autograph hot cloth cleanser.

StepDoor · 27/09/2014 19:31

Another la Roche posey user.

NannyR · 27/09/2014 19:33

I use waitrose baby massage oil, which is basically a pot of vanilla scented coconut oil. Melt a bit in your hand, massage in, then wipe off with a hot flannel. My skin feels brilliant.

MrsPnut · 27/09/2014 19:38

I use good things manuka honey face wash, it's made my dry skin much better.

ChickenFajitaAndNachos · 27/09/2014 19:44

Clinique and if you can afford it the new out Clinique facial cleanser brush. It's like having a mini salon treatment twice a day. I follow that with Clinique clarifying lotion and then clinique superdefense moisturizer. Once a week I do the 7 day scrub and I also use the serum. Clinique stuff lasts for ages and if you buy it at Bonus Time you get lots of free products to try.

SarfEasticated · 27/09/2014 19:51

After years of spending lots of money on expensive Elemis face unguents I have recently started washing my face with my daughter's Sanex body wash. It's incredibly gentle and makes my face feel lovely.

GuiltyAsAGirlCanBe · 27/09/2014 19:54

I use simple, the richest one I can get.

The one for "mature" skin is good.

After years of battling acne, and a brief dabble with the oil cleansing method which transformed my skin, I have learnt that stripping your skin of it's natural oils is not the way to go.

But I find cleansing too much of a faff, so have settled to using a gentle face wash that I can use in tr shower

MooMinCow · 27/09/2014 19:56

I read about CeraVe on a blog and bought a few bottles while in the States earlier this year. My kids use it to clean their faces.

I tried Cetaphil but was too drying for me. CeraVe is perfect for a quick a.m. cleanse but I prefer Body Shop Camomile oil (to remove make up) then either Good Things Manuka Cleanser or the green Superdrug one.

Will check out the other blog too!

NigellasGuest · 27/09/2014 20:01

I really like Perricone cleansers - I use the one for sensitive skin. A bit pricey but lasts a very long time.

I'm also another fan of Emma Hardie's balm, Take the Day Off Balm, and Cetaphil. My 14 yr old DD loves Cetaphil too and my 17 yr old is an Emma Hardie fan.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 27/09/2014 20:16

Oil of olay one in a purple and black tube. Anti wrinkle. Have had lots if compliments on my skin since using it. Not sure if it's the wash which has tiny scrubby bits in it but gentle or the waitrose pure facial oil I've been using.

williaminajetfighter · 27/09/2014 20:35

Eve lom cleanser for the last 10 years and really happy with it. Recently tried Rodial Glamtox cleanser which has similar consistency but, nay, not quite as good.

Cetaphil is v recommended by dermatologists so can see why it's popular.

FYI I wash my face at night but never in the morning - I just cleanse with water only. No need to strip the face one more time. Much better to cleanse properly just once a day. Otherwise you're caught up in the strip moisturize strip cycle. I also don't like to wear any moisturizer or product at night as I think that's when your skin wants to breathe...but I digress!!!

ByTheWishingWell · 27/09/2014 20:41

Lancôme Gel Éclat - it's quite pricey, but it foams up really well, so you only need to use a tiny bit and it lasts for ages. It keeps my skin really clear and soft and shine-free. Unfortunately I'm useless at keeping up with a routine, so once my skin's looking great I drift out of the habit of using it, only to start again when I break out in spots...Hmm

MeDented · 27/09/2014 20:46

For all those using Liz Earl hot cloth polish - try Sally's Skin Truth Hot cloth polish, it smells identical and feels lovely at a fraction of the price of Liz Earl

Familyguyfan · 27/09/2014 20:52

I followed advice on here and am using Lush Angels with Bare Faces, or something like that. My spots are clearing up, not sure if that is a coincidence but it's lovely!

EmNetta · 27/09/2014 21:25

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned my favourite - Crabtree & Evelyn's Goats Milk Soap, which has a really subtle scent and I rarely need to moisturise now, using it once a day.

northdownmummy · 27/09/2014 21:34

I'm another Liz earl cleanse & polish fan.
