Face wash recommendations please

I desperately need your favourite face wash recommendations please. I find myself buying the latest ones on offer in Boots etc and none of them seem to do my skin any good. If it's of any use, I've got combination skin and no wrinkles yet but of the age I think it's advised to start taking a few preventative measures! Happy to splurge a little if I need to, to find something I love and becomes my face wash go to! Thank you in advance.

I use Effaclaar Purifying Cleansing Gel by La Roche-Posay, which someone recommended to me on MN when I was getting a lot of spots. I also use Effaclar Duo. They have cured my spots! Wish I could remember who recommended La Roche-Posay because I'd like to thank them.

I loved Liz Earle's products, but they don't seem to suit my skin and I used to get a lot of breakouts.

Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser

fairnotfair · 27/09/2014 13:25

Another vote for Clarins Pure Melt. Lovely stuff. Clarins are pretty good about giving out samples as well Smile

perfectpeach · 27/09/2014 13:35

I use Trilogy or Neals Yard. Amazing products

squoosh · 27/09/2014 13:36

Another vote for Pure Melt, I love rich oily cleansers.

Avoid anything that foams as it will just dry your skin out.

rockpink · 27/09/2014 13:37

Superdrug hot cloth facial cleanser is absolutely lovely, as is the moisturiser and night cream. I am such a convert.
It's the stuff in the green tubes that is usually buy one get one half price, proves that you don't need to spend a fortune.

Balanceme balm and Pixi exfoliating toner plus the whole Caroline Hiron's cleansing routine.

Honeezreturn · 27/09/2014 13:49

Simple foam cleanser in a pump action bottle, cheap as chips, lovely and soft, good to sensitive skin,
Once a week I use it with a buff puff (think scourer!) just to get dead skin off

ouryve · 27/09/2014 14:09

It cetaphil unscented, then? I have about 6 months worth of Clinique Comforting Cream Cleanser left, then that's it because it's been discontinued. My skin, particularly on my face and hands, reacts horribly to so many different products that I'm dreading the hunt for something new. I'm mid 40s with very sensitive combination skin and don't wear make up but do like to clean off stale moisturiser, at the end of the day. It's random what I do react to. I exfoliate, weekly, with Lush Dream Wash, but Simple products leave my face burning and itchy.

ArtDecoGirly · 27/09/2014 14:27

I use Clarins Cleansing Care (Gentle Foaming Cleanser with Cottonseed Normal/Combination Skin). You only need a little bit, rub in hands with a bit water to create a lovely foam, gets rid of every trace of make-up/oil and just makes me feel really clean

MintyChops · 27/09/2014 14:40

Ren Purity Cleansing Balm. Amazing.

Balance Me Face Wash

La Roche posay Effaclar Duo
A maz ing

Has transformed my skin in weeks - It was spotty hormonal and horrible. Now it's rather good, even if I do say so myself. Has not dried it out or anything, which I was worried about.

I stocked up when visiting my Dad in France, as it's way cheaper there, but you can get it in Boots here and it's not that pricey -around £11.

kirsten123 · 27/09/2014 16:30

Cetaphil!

It's "non-comedogenic" ie doesn't give you spots.
Recommended by dermatologists inc the famous Dr Sam Bunting :-) as it's safe for use even after treatments.

Re Liz Earle etc - you're just paying for the nice smells and packaging! Agree with previous poster who says cleanser is not about "doing your skin good", it's to safely remove dirt. End of story.

Then use cetaphil moisturiser at night. Or SPF in the day. Don't smoke.
Drinking water makes naff all difference according to Dr B.

Also - all this "double cleansing" is overkill unless you work down a mine.

You're welcome!

I love Superdrug mint & tea tree foaming face wash.

MooMinCow · 27/09/2014 16:39

Just recommended CeraVe on the cetaphil thread. Great for normal-dry skin (but non foaming)

Sounds daft but how do you get your hot cloth? Like being on the aeroplane? I love those.

I was always told to avoid using any soap at all on your face, just wash with a hot cloth then moisturise! It's served me well Smile

Darkesteyes · 27/09/2014 17:50

When i can afford it which is rare the Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser with Shea Butter for Dry Skin.
But most or all of the time its Simple Regeneration Age Resisting Facial Wash.
Ive been on a healthy eating plan for over a year and people have told me my skin looks great so i think some of it is what you put inside your body too. I cant afford Clarins face wash at the mo as im having to buy new clothes and being ahem quite busty bras are expensive.

Worst face wash ive ever tried Olay Anti Wrinkle and Olay Regenerist. Harsh and abrasive.

pupsiecola · 27/09/2014 18:05

I have recently switched to the Dermatologist's favourite, La Roche Posay. I have extremely sensitive skin. I used Clinique for a few years, and I tried Liz Earle earlier this year. But I am never switching from LRP. It's not got any crap in it. So it may not smell delicious (it doesn't really smell of anything) but it is doing my skin the world of good. I do use the cleanser with the Liz Earle cleansing face cloth. It's also very reasonably priced.

pupsiecola · 27/09/2014 18:06

To clarify, I use LRP cleanser but I have kept my Liz Earle cleansing cloths to use with, because I like wiping my face with hot water, then cold water :-)

Georgina1975 · 27/09/2014 18:10

Emma Hardie balm (the Clinque balm is good too). I like aromotheraphy associates a lot too - the range is on offer at Beauty Bay.

Second Caroline Hirons blog. Check out her cleansing cheat sheet.
