Face wash recommendations please

I desperately need your favourite face wash recommendations please. I find myself buying the latest ones on offer in Boots etc and none of them seem to do my skin any good. If it's of any use, I've got combination skin and no wrinkles yet but of the age I think it's advised to start taking a few preventative measures! Happy to splurge a little if I need to, to find something I love and becomes my face wash go to! Thank you in advance.

At night I use Soap & Glory micellar water (Drama Clean) it's pink. It works where Gatineau Floracil failed to remove some of my mascaras.

I love Philosophy Microdelivery wash (need to order some more)
Today I opened a bottle of Philosophy Purity that was lurking in the cupboard, but I don't like it on my eyes.

Good Things Manuka Honey cleanser with a hot cloth

Soap & Glory 'Face , Soap and Clarity' has little spheres in it but I'm not sure what they do TBH.

All are non-drying, I'm 48yo with a "normal" skin.

ThisBitchIsResting · 27/09/2014 21:45

Soap and glory 'peaches and clean'.

I keep trying other cleansers and returning to it, it just leaves my skin so fresh, don't know why but it's magic. The brand annoys me with its faux retro stuff but this cleanser is the business. I've scoured the ingredients list to try to work out why it's so good but have no idea. My pores are clear and I don't get spots and my complexion is smoother. I've tried other cleansers and nothing else has the same effect.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 27/09/2014 22:39

Cetaphil, and I've used loads of expensive cleansers. It's the business.

WrenNatsworthy · 27/09/2014 22:43

Frankincense facial wash, Neal's Yard Remedies.

MosquitoFood · 27/09/2014 22:48

I've been using Lush's Angels On Bare Skin. Cleared up my sudden acne and really balances my combination skin. And gives me an excuse to stock up with bath bombs when I run out.

Messinthemorning · 27/09/2014 23:19

I use Simple 'Kind to skin refreshing face wash' gel. I had severe acne requiring treatment with roaccutane, and have quite sensitive skin which clogs as well as drys! I was recommended to use dermalogica by my dermatologist and gp but I find that simple works just as good and not as expensive. I rather put more money into moisturisers and serums Thant face wash but still need the face wash to be effective.ps.i also swear by the Phillips clarisonic!

I love REN's Rosa Centifolia Hot Cloth Cleanser here (MintyChops mentioned the balm version of it above). It is very mildly fragranced and feels incredibly gentle. I was a loyal user of Liz Earle's Hot Cloth Cleanser for many years, but over the last year or so, my skin began to get very itchy and uncomfortable at times after using it. I really like using a cleansing cloth and love other REN products so thought I would try it. I would highly recommend it!

Simple moisturising face wash. Really like it.

susiebee46 · 27/09/2014 23:27

flannel and water

I was forever buying various potions that just made me dry. my skins a lot better with just a flannel

Miiaaoow · 27/09/2014 23:54

Yet another Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish fan.

I've bought so many cleansers over the years such as Simple, Clarins, Clinique, Bioderma, Avene, St Ives. etc But my face never really felt clean and I used to feel the need to exfoliate all the time because my skin felt so dull and clogged. Either that or I felt tight and red after using them.

And then I discovered Liz Earle Grin. My skin feels so soft and smooooth after using it.

Her moisturiser is lovely too.

Minimammoth · 27/09/2014 23:58

I use the Amie one, paraben free. Not expensive.

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 27/09/2014 23:58

vichy normaderm face wash for me. not the creams (i use no 7) but really like the wash.

duchesse · 28/09/2014 00:55

I don't put water or soap of any kind anywhere near my face or it becomes leathery and rough.

Instead, I use Corinne de Farme baby lotion as a cleanser, and it moisturises at the same time. I have to pick it up in the supermarket in France when I'm there, but at £4 for 750 ml I don't mind stocking up!

duchesse · 28/09/2014 00:59

FFS

One last time, with feeling.

This.

RoseWater5 · 28/09/2014 02:27

Shiseido Pureness facewash! The skin feels squeaky clean and it gets rid of the blemishes as well. It's got a bit of exfoliation in it as well, but at the same time it's really nice and gentle on the skin. I love it Smile

Labracadabra · 28/09/2014 05:14

Marking place as I really need to find something for my dry, sensitive skin

Fabulassie · 28/09/2014 08:48

I use that L'Oreal Miracle Oil or whatever it's called. It removes all makeup and leaves my skin very soft.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 28/09/2014 08:51

This is an interesting thread. I use Clarins gentle foaming facial wash for sensitive skin. Have done for years after swapping from Clinique products, which, out of the blue, started to irritate my skin despite having used them for years Confused. I can't afford the Clarins day creme now, though, and wonder if that's contributing to dry, almost exzcema-like patches on my eyelids. Or whether, i've developed some sort of resistance to the facial wash. Like a PP, I dread having to road test new products cos my face reacts so badly.

MrBee · 28/09/2014 09:25

I really like Dr Nick Lowe foaming face wash. Not drying at all for my skin. Last time I went to buy it it wasn't available though, I think they are rebranding the packaging.

I also recently discovered L'occitance Shea face soap. Again non drying and good if you prefer an actual bar of soap.

Bunbaker · 28/09/2014 09:31

"I don't put water or soap of any kind anywhere near my face or it becomes leathery and rough."

My face doesn't feel clean with just a cleansing lotion. How do you manage to wash your hair without getting your face wet BTW?

Blueistheonlycolour · 28/09/2014 09:31

Special cleansing gel by dermalogica is my "return to over and over again" product.

duchesse · 28/09/2014 09:44

Of course I end up getting some water on my face when I'm washing my hair! I just don't scrub at it with any chemicals while I'm at it.

My face feels and looks perfectly clean after I clean it with that particular lotion. I have tried other lotions but they are never as good- they leave me feeling greasy, or sticky and give me spots. That one is the only one I've found that both cleans cleanly and moisturises. Which is why I recommended it.

coffeeinbed · 28/09/2014 09:59

Water and a cloth in the morning
In the evening I try to use a cleansing bar type of thing- I'm horrified at the amount of plastic everything comes packaged in, and a facial bar is usually only wrapped with paper.
Also switched to soap for the body.

And I try not to over cleanse - hate that stripped feeling on the skin.
