Face wash recommendations please

I desperately need your favourite face wash recommendations please. I find myself buying the latest ones on offer in Boots etc and none of them seem to do my skin any good. If it's of any use, I've got combination skin and no wrinkles yet but of the age I think it's advised to start taking a few preventative measures! Happy to splurge a little if I need to, to find something I love and becomes my face wash go to! Thank you in advance.

Take The Day Off balm is AMAZING, but very pricey. I'd recommend using coconut oil and steaming it off with a hot flannel as it has a similar effect and is amazing at removing make-up. If you prefer an actual wash that foams though, Lush do a soap called Movis which is really lovely and balancing for combination skin (although it has little bits in it that makes cleaning the sink afterwards annoying!).

Googled 'micellar water' after reading about it on here cos I didn't know what it was. Bought both the L'Oreal and Nivea versions as they were easily available and on offer, and have spent the last week using them.

They are simply amazing on my tired, beginning-to-wrinkle 47 year-old face. Easy, easy, easy cleansing and leave skin hydrated. Combined with my Paula's Choice 2% salycilic product my skin has never looked better. Open pores have been deep cleaned and I am happier with my face than I have been in years. No exaggeration.

Thank you MN, micellar water has been a revelation.

I use a clinique soap bar

Darkesteyes · 28/09/2014 18:49

Avon i too found that after a while the Clarins face wash you mentioned started to make my skin feel tight.

And the lady at our local Clarins counter also told me last week that a lot of people find Clinique too harsh.

I find that if i stick to the Simple Age Resisting Facial Wash and use nice creams like NO 7 that this seems to work for me. I cant afford Protect and Perfect though (i think its ridiculous that they are the same or similar price to Clarins) so i use Beautiful Skin.

Darkesteyes · 28/09/2014 18:54

gobbin i use the Loreal micellar water at night I love it Its amazing It makes my skin feel so clean and soft.

Versions for the public were made because it was so popular and quick to use for the models during Fashion Weeks. This is how i found out about this wonderful stuff on the beauty pages in Red last year.

Does Caroline Hirons really get paid for promoting products? I really did not think that was true actually.

LikeSilver · 28/09/2014 19:24

Having tried zillions I love the No7 Beautiful Skin Oil Cleanser. It really works well for me.

fancyacupoftea · 28/09/2014 20:47

Clarins Gentle Cleansing Milk with Alpine Herbs - I use with a flannel in the evening and it cleanses and takes all my make up off bar stubborn waterproof mascara. I too have combo skin and few wrinkles yet and my skin is the best ever.
I also found that only rinsing my skin, not washing, in the morning really helped with breakouts.

Feel like I want to try the Clarins Melt stuff though after all the recs here!

Brummiegirl15 · 28/09/2014 20:47

Another one for Clarins melt but also love Eve lom too as a pressie or when I'm feeling flush, intrigued though about Micellar water - will have to try them.

Philoslothy · 28/09/2014 20:51

I currently using the no7 oil cleanser as the second stage after "Take the day off". I like it.

hugoagogo · 28/09/2014 20:53

I think this thread just shows that no one product suits everyone and even if you find something that suits you it might not always. What a pain!

I use superdrug naturally radiant hot cloth cleanser and love it. (for now) Grin

GoodEggy · 28/09/2014 21:28

Simple moisturising facewash or Aldis cheapo version which is almost exactly the same. Neither over £3. Gets all my make off and doesn't dry out my eyelids like most others do.

OneDayWhenIGrowUp · 28/09/2014 22:07

I bounce around arond usually have 3-4 cleansers on the go at any one time - more/less scrubby, morning/evening scents, heavier duty after makeup etc...

perpetual favourites
Lush Angels on Bare Skin (been using this for around 15 years) I used to love their Baby Face too but it was discontinued :-(
Kieh's Ultra Cleanser
Origins Never a Dull Moment or Dr Weil's
Philosophy Purity
St Ives Apricot scrub

Nivea Gentle Cleansing Cream Wash

chocolatespiders · 28/09/2014 23:03

Gobbin- is it the resist Paula's choice cream you use?

Twittwooo · 28/09/2014 23:07

Hope it's okay to mark my place and come back later!

helenmirren · 28/09/2014 23:34

i'm lurve jurlique's: www.jurlique.co.uk/products/b01/balancing-foaming-cleanser
expensive but it lasts for ages because you only need a tiny bit, really light and easy to rinse and not horribly perfumed.

AddToBasket · 29/09/2014 00:05

Shu Umera cleansing oil is miraculous.

(Don't use it if you have false lashes though - they'll come right off)

theonlygothinthevillage · 29/09/2014 02:41

I have combination skin and switched to the oil cleansing method a couple of months ago - would heartily recommend giving it a go. I use a mixture of about a quarter castor oil and three quarters sweet almond oil, then moisturise with just a bit of sweet almond oil at night. In the morning just wash with water and use usual make-up products.

Before that, I would buy Simple or Nivea face wash (whichever was on offer - one or the other always was!).

JamNan · 29/09/2014 06:17

Almond Soothing Cleansing Lotion from Weleda £9.95
(for very sensitive skin)

Can't use Clarins anymore as it leaves my skin feeling tight and dry

EasyToEatTiger · 29/09/2014 08:15

I have a giant tub of Moroccan Black Soap and another giant tub of Shea Butter.

Nonconformist34 · 29/09/2014 08:48

Demalogica's Special Cleansing Gel. It's took me 25 years to find my perfect face wash and I would never change!I have very sensitive, oily skin and if I use anything with oil in I break out. I did try using oil products on oily skin like many previous people have done but it made mine so much worse.

A £40 massive one lasts me 6 months so works out cheaper than buying all the cheaper ones on offer at Boots.

fromparistoberlin73 · 29/09/2014 08:54

dermalogica special cleansing gel

MackerelOfFact · 29/09/2014 10:11

Watching with interest. Have used Clinique Anti-Blemish Foaming Cleanser for years with great success but in the last year or so my skin has started coming out in large cysty spots on my jawline and my face always feels oily.

I like the sound of the charcoal Biore one (but hated their ice cleanser, was great on the rest of my body though). Have also been thinking about booking a Dermalogica facial and getting some products recommended.

Those that use Cetaphil, what skin type do you have?

I like hot cloth oil cleansers but my bath/shower is slippery enough as it is.

KneeQuestion · 29/09/2014 10:50

I use coconut oil and a hot wet flannel. Followed by coconut oil to moisturise.

Wish I'd known about it years ago, so much better than all the oil stripping face stuff.
