OK, following on from 'Bag Recommendations for £900 thread', I took the 'bag by the handles' and started a bag lovers thread. This is not a 'OMG why would you spend that amount on a bag' thread, its purely a lust thread.

We look, we lust, we love, we discuss. Grin

My first offering the new Gucci Lady Tassel in mandarin. Love this...

I love Tom Ford!

I've got this (this isn't mine as I can't be bothered to go upstairs and disturb it from it's little bed ;) it's all packed away snugly ). It is absolutely gorgeous!

I'd love a birkin or Kelly, but I do think that there are a lot of fakes out there, and I'm sure most of the ones you see out and about aren't real. Which kinda makes me not want one. I do have a chanel 2.55 but it hardly comes out as I often think people will assume it's fake. There are some bags my dh won't even buy me because he says everyone has a fake one :/

Just given my aged tods a good going over with leather balsam and transferred everything into it. I will not let my bags fester! I will use them!

cardamomginger · 29/08/2014 16:24

Bloody hell, I carry around a lot of crap.

Karbea · 29/08/2014 16:25

Which leather balsam do you use? I really should do that more often :( (bad bag mummy!)

MarshaBrady · 29/08/2014 16:27

lol Linus you made me laugh!
I know. I can do navy trio. I could do a box bag.

I will consider how I'd could branch out. Grin

cardamomginger · 29/08/2014 16:28

Lord Sheraton. Really smooth and goes on easily. It's off- white colour, so perfect for most colours.

HolgerDanske · 29/08/2014 16:34

I will pay the money for the quality and also for the pleasure of knowing it's bonafide, IYSWIM. For me that's the main draw. So I would rather have just a few definitely authentic bags. I expect I'll only ever be able to afford one, or maybe at a real stretch, two, per year. I'll always buy in the sale. My choice will be limited firstly by finances and secondly by what's available during sale periods. But I don't mind that. It's worth it for the warm fuzzy feeling I get from knowing that I'm carrying the genuine article.

On one level this makes perfect sense. On another level I am probably a bit of an idiot, seeing as I don't really have much money. Perhaps I'd get just as much pleasure from a well made fake. But somehow I don't think so.

MarshaBrady · 29/08/2014 16:36

I could never buy a fake, it defeats the whole purpose for me. I don't want to look like I have an expensive bag, I want to buy something that a very good designer has designed.

LinusDKD · 29/08/2014 16:38

I love that TF Jennifer bag, especially in that colour. I saw it in Bergdorf Goodman's last year and DH had to drag me away. Grin

MarshaBrady · 29/08/2014 16:38

Obviously friends who know what it is will share the excitement or whatever, but I'd rather the genuine thing over something with big branding / label.

HolgerDanske · 29/08/2014 16:39

Exactly. It's also about substance for me, and buying fake or even possibly fake feels completely wrong. If I couldn't afford it I would much rather just buy the best that my money could get on its own merits, you know? But I guess some people don't see it that way. Each to their own, I suppose.

HolgerDanske · 29/08/2014 16:43

It's interesting, though, that for so many people it's the appearance of elitism that's important, whereas for me it's the elitism itself that's attractive. I wonder who's the biggest dupe in the grand scheme of things...

Ah well this is starting to hurt my head. I'm going to get back to the pretty pictures Smile

BecauseIsaidS0 · 29/08/2014 17:01

Dear God, I guess I shouldn't have mentioned the (probably fake) bag my mom bought me Grin

MarshaBrady · 29/08/2014 17:03

Ah everything is welcome Because and that's just love and kindness as a present Grin.

BecauseIsaidS0 · 29/08/2014 17:11

It's actually proved to be one of my most often used bags because it's not heavy and it is very very roomy! Looks a bit like this (sorry for the bad image, I'm too lazy to take a picture of mine, which is dirty because the pug sleeps on it)

HolgerDanske · 29/08/2014 17:13

If you love the bag and if it was given to you with love and affection, then that's an entirely different thing. As fakes vs genuine articles go, it only matters if it matters to you Smile

Pastperfect Fri 29-Aug-14 12:37:39

Frogmore if the pic you posted is actually your bag then probably your DH....

My DH - what?

HolgerDanske · 29/08/2014 17:29

I am awful for getting distracted. Especially by boots. And shoes. And scarves. Far too impulsive, far too inclined toward instant gratification, far too everything, really! At this rate there will be no money in the kitty when the sales next come round...

MarshaBrady · 29/08/2014 17:31

I so swayed by discounts on things, I tend to stock up for the new season with sales stuff. I suppose I can feel a bit better that I'm not paying full price.

I seem to get very distracted by jumpers. Must stop.

HolgerDanske · 29/08/2014 17:33

That's what I do too. And it's been a lot worse this year because I've lost three stone and am four sizes smaller so I've had a legitimate reason for building up a whole new wardrobe.

PigWhisperer · 29/08/2014 17:39

BecauseIsaidSO My Hermes buying days are sadly behind me for now, but when I bought from ebay I often used the Purse Forum. They have a list of reputable sellers and also will try to authenticate a bag before you buy. Its a free service with no guarantees, but some of their posters are experts!

H shops used to have the infamous list - does this still operate?

forum.purseblog.com/authenticate-this-hermes/

PigWhisperer · 29/08/2014 17:39

And birkins are heavy!

BecauseIsaidS0 · 29/08/2014 17:49

Apparently, there is no list anymore; you just have to keep calling the shop and asking if they've received any, and one day you might just be lucky and snap one. Or so I'm told Hmm. Any chance you'd like to offload any of yours, PigWhisperer? Grin

cardamomginger · 29/08/2014 18:02

Don't understand the attraction of fakes either. For me it's about quality, as well as not facilitating something illegal and supporting a trade that is linked to even more morally questionable and criminal activity. If I can't afford something, I'll buy new within my price range, scout around in the sales, or go for the item I'm really after but second hand.

Karbea · 29/08/2014 18:09

Ok I know these aren't a bag, but I think I'm in love...
