I know this has been done before and posters have got flamed but I'd really like some suggestions.

I'll go over the budget if its something I really like, but not wildly so.

I probably looking for more of a tote style rather than clutch.
Thanks.

..i do like lovely things [ like my gorgeous toast boots ] but i feel that i can be [like others] caught up by being incredibly materialistic and its not nice. Material things especially things that arent really true necessities are nice to have..but they are generally unimportant and lavish and self centred because they benefit no-one but the person buying them. Its just not a nice trait and i see it in myself.

dexter73 · 23/08/2014 17:29

That's a lovely bag Downstairs.
I don't need to justify my spending at all. I never feel ashamed about buying something as I have no debt and all our expenses are covered. I don't buy clothes or bags all the time but mostly in the sales as I hate paying full price.

monsterowl · 23/08/2014 17:31

Aghast at this thread. Haven't read the whole thing (because that would be torture), but am fast getting the impression that the more you're willing to spend on a bag, the more vacuous a person you are. If it's not bleating about which objects are prettier than others (basically like a group of pre-schoolers), it's giving whining justifications about whey it's okay to bleat about which objects are prettier than others.

ChickenFajitaAndNachos · 23/08/2014 17:35

That's the same as me. I wouldn't spend if I felt guilt or a need to justify. Why do something if it causes a negative in your life? I get one beautiful bag a year. Bags and holidays are probably my main extravagance and wine and lattes.

AmberNectarine · 23/08/2014 17:38

Think I'd rather be vacuous than tediously worthy.

FWIW, I doubt somewhat that the professional women on this thread who command the high incomes necessary to afford these bags are terribly vacuous.

I had a Balenciaga City bag many years ago. It actually broke on a couple of spots where the hardware corners pressed when I would drop it on a funny shape on the floor or the sofa (I'm just bad at looking after my bags).

And even though it's terribly passé, I have to admit I still love my Alexa. It's aging well and a perfect weekend bag for me.

I have a mini Pashli that is super cute and like the normal sized one, especially after seeing it on foxyshoes's arm!

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 23/08/2014 17:47

I am going to get my first 'good' bag for Christmas so may I hijack?

I'm after something that will do for evening but isn't tiny, ie I want to be able to carry more than a phone and some cash. But definitely not a tote size. I like cross-body bags. And I think I'd like colour. Budget is probably going to be around the 250 mark? But I have never spent anything like this before, so I don't know where to start! Can anyone suggest some brands?

MrsDavidBowie · 23/08/2014 17:47

green garden pixie round where I live in SW London, houses costing are expensive.
Our house is worth more than £1 million and believe me, its nothing special.
If we moved, we would be looking at houses of £1.5 million plus.
So £1.8million is not excessive or jawdropping imo.

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/08/2014 17:51

Sorry, got distracted by thinking about puppies and kittens and other vacuous stuff Wink

Mrsk - I like decent shoes but only recently have spent £££ on them. I generally spend less on sandals and more on boots. Always leather though.

Tessie is lovely - I bet it will end up in the sale, especially the previews

MrsKoala · 23/08/2014 17:51

I know exactly what you mean monster, all those vacuous women spending their days bleating about pretty things, like Hillary Clinton, Margaret Thatcher, Michelle Obama... Grin

I'm wondering if it just bags which are vacuous? And therefore women. What about Jon Snow spending £100+ on ties. Is that vacuous too. I wonder if he sits around bleating about pretty things too.

dexter73 · 23/08/2014 17:53

Lonny - are you anywhere near an outlet centre? My Christmas present last year was a Coach Alexandra bag that cost £200. I have used it every day since. My dh bought it from Bicester where there are handbag shops galore, but he chose Coach as he knew I liked their bags.

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/08/2014 17:53

Lonny - gucci soho disco may fit the bill. They went down to around £250 in the summer sale in Harvey Nichols. I have the navy and love it - its practical for day but good for evening too.

Ilovenewts · 23/08/2014 17:55

Lonny - Michael Kors do so e nice ones for that amount.

And for what it's worth I don't earn a huge amount - probably less Han most here but still spend money in bags because it's my money and I can afford it being as I don't have an expensive lifestyle in general.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 23/08/2014 18:01

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 23/08/2014 18:04

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 23/08/2014 18:10

Ilovenewts · 23/08/2014 18:13

Oh good Grin glad to have helped !!

ZaraW · 23/08/2014 18:15

Check out www.yoogiscloset.com they sell some really fantastic pre owned bags. I got a Marc Jacobs a few years back and it was as good as new.

storynanny2 · 23/08/2014 18:34

LEM. I also buy my leather bags in TKMaxx, especially Osprey ones.
Not getting into the argument about price, but my reasoning behind paying about £50 for a leather bag is simply that I love bags so much that I wouldnt just want one expensive one which I would be obliged to use every day for years! I like matching them to my outfit and actually enjoy the procedure of swapping all my stuff over!

Fcukfifa · 23/08/2014 18:48

Downstairs, I absolutely love that Chloe bag!

Definitely on the Xmas wish list!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 23/08/2014 18:53

Lonny: try the outnet

carrielou2007 · 23/08/2014 18:59
