So good I posted it twiceGrin

My goodness, MI time flies! I cant believe Dd2 is Form 1 or whatever they call it now. Hope very much that she likes it. Oh and well done on getting another contract. Even if it is about classroom assistants. I work with one of them - she does a few hours for me in the evenings. she is in a permanent lather over all things classroom assistanty. Seem v thankless.

Im booked. I may have to book 'special assistance' with unEasyjet and get them to roll me to the gate in a bath chair........ Thats if the old leg gives out.
Lalsy, I know it is difficult for you to get a break , but Id love to meet you!
Likewise Molly and Monty. Hatty, sorry you cant make it. There will be a Paris meet up one of these days...
BTw we took Ddad to Bofinger for his 80th. Dd and I arrived as a surprise. he though it would just be him and mum, but no, we appeared from behind a liveried waiter.Grin

Auriga · 02/09/2014 01:32

Sorry can't make 11 Oct (singing in concert). Good to see everyone reappearing, this is what I love about September.

Blackduck · 02/09/2014 06:06

Can I come on 11th? Promise I'll have had a bath by then ;)

I can't find the bloody letter telling me what ds has to take on the first day..... Everything? Nothing? Something in between?

bigTillyMint · 02/09/2014 07:03

Addle, glad to see you had a sunny and relaxing break - good to see you back!

Auriga, shame you can't make 11th, but BD, you can come (providing you have your bath first!) I don't think they need much on the first day - a pencil case and packed lunch if necessary?

11th - get it in the diary!

I would like to try and put in an appearance on 11th Oct! There is a chance we'll be away that weekend but not definite by any means. Is it a day time meet up?
Good luck to all crepeys with DCs first day of new school. I have to admit I was very happy not to be the parent of primary school children any more when DD started secondary...goodness, she's going in to year 10 tomorrow. dS2 went off to sixth form induction today.
Bon Voyage NU Hope you got away ok?
Monty DDad is at home with DM his main carer. They have help two mornings a week. His dementia is definitely progressing and incontinence is becoming a major problem. He did well on the memory drug Aricept but there were too many side effects so he had to come off it. It's a pretty rubbish situation but There's a lot of help DM isn't ready to accept at this stage. She still wants to be in control. It's very sad...DDad was a doctor himself. I think I mentally said good bye to him a while ago.
Well. I actually slept a bit last night. DD and I felt absolute rubbish yesterday. We both seem to have stomach upsets. Don't know if it's just the jet lag or what. I still feel nauseous this morning....

Rosebag · 02/09/2014 08:04

Ps NU good news re clear tests!
CV condolences Sad

bigTillyMint · 02/09/2014 08:13

Rose, I am sure we could meet in the afternoon (and continue into the night!) if you can make that?
And I felt really nauseous with jet lag - what's all that about? I didn't have a stomach upset though.

Sorry to hear about all the elderly dementia - I think DM may be slowly heading that way.

motherinferior · 02/09/2014 08:19

Do count me in for 11th if at all possible.

Have conducted another Ladyjog in hope of reducing spare tyreHmm. Must get to the desk. And I've just realised none of DD2's new uniform is labelled so must hand her a Sharpie and tell her to get on with it.

Looks like my run of bad luck with crepey clashes has finished - I'm fine for the 11th Smile.

Have a wonderful trip NU.

Dementia is a beast.

In S and B news, I ended up with a Bravissimo swimsuit with a rather challenging cross strap arrangement that provoked some swearing initially but it did work and nothing popped out in the surf. I set a low bar for S and B success......

cremolafoam · 02/09/2014 08:37

Rose! Please come, would love to meet you. I could have written the sentence you wrote about your mum not wanting help, about my own mum.Confused I'm so sorry about your DF. Cruel , cruel illness.

NU safe trip. Have a wonderful break.
Hope you can meet us sometime in the future. Perhaps we can coordinate a mini northern meetup in Betty's sometime.

cremolafoam · 02/09/2014 08:38

Lalsy yay!

I can't come for the afternoon, but will hotfoot it to wherever in the evening on 11 Oct. I can't seem to find the daily start or end time of my weekend course, but it probably ends somewhere between 5 and 6. So you will all be well sozzled by the time I get there. Grin

lalsy · 02/09/2014 09:23

Crem Grin.

MontserratCaballe · 02/09/2014 10:09

Sorry to hear your sad news, CV.

Rose, how strange, my Dad was a Dr as well. I know what you mean about saying goodbye now. I haven't had a proper conversation with my dad since DS was born (he is now 5.5) and he hasn't known who I am at all for the last 2/3 years. I have grieved quite a lot already. He is 84 now and has had other health problems, so could go at any moment or, equally, could live for years. It is so tough for your mum though. Sorry you are feeling unwell today, too. Hope you are rallying.

MI, impressed by the ladyjog. I still haven't been. Must try harder.

Meet up - I would love to meet you all, though do feel slightly anxious that I am neither stylish nor beautiful. The day is hard for me with all the kids' activities but I could venture out in the evening if you will still be going strong by then.....

Safe journey today, NU. Hope that the ash cloud has now settled.

lalsy · 02/09/2014 10:18

Monty, I am neither stylish nor beautiful, nor terribly interested in such matters. No-one from RL would think of looking for me in the S and B section!

MollyAir · 02/09/2014 10:38

Ditto, lalsy. Grin Surely the criterion is to be crepey. Tick.

Rosebag · 02/09/2014 10:56

I thought this was the anti style and beauty thread, anyway. I am also lacking sorely in that dept...and getting old to boot. So no worries there, monty!! Feeling very sad for our dads. Mine is a bit older, 87 and I'm the eldest of four, so he's known my kids well and as his long term memory is better, he can still relate to them but they have noticed he's somewhat doolaly. It's partic hard for DM because as that generation was, they did everything together ( DH and I certainly don't) and also I think all her admiration for him was bound up with his status as a doctor. I miss being able to ask him medical questions and talk about stuff.

I really want to try to get to the meet up. I want to put faces to names and meet you all. Thanks cremo Will have to confirm nearer the time, though in case we go away. Ps does it matter that I don't really drink? Will it make me a laughing stock?

tilly have spoke to a few female friends who have said they got nausea and upset stomachs when jet lagged. Must be hormonal or something. My DSis who lives in the US takes melatonin but it's still not licenced as safe in the UK as yet. Apparently it really helps.

Well I am schlepping myself out with DD who's not back to school til tomorrow to try to get the GP to run off a letter for her performance licence without her being seen. They do it every year....maybe twice a year sometimes. Can't believe it's time for Xmas show rehearsals to start again next week. We have only just got over the last one. It's Peter Pan this year. Smile I do love all that.

cremolafoam · 02/09/2014 11:11

Rose, I'll not be On the sauce either because of my meds. No one believes me ever but I actually rarely drink. High days and holidays only, including crepey meetups. Fizzy water for me this time thoConfused boo.

On the topic of style, come as you are. Bathed or unbathed not an issue. Grin

motherinferior · 02/09/2014 11:22

I am pursuing several different features in a state of juggling, which is actually quite fun if nerve-wracking.

Melatonin is interesting stuff, because it cues our bodies to night-time. Given to nocturnal animals, it actually wakes them up. True fact.

hattymattie · 02/09/2014 12:18

Monty- yup we are the anti style and beauty thread. It is for this reason I have never actually dared to meet up with BonsoirBlush.

Rose and Monty I'm sorry to hear about your Dads - another DR's daughter here. Mine is holding his own though - it's my mother who's having memory problems.

I can hardly drink anymore - two glasses sends me over the edge so I have to really watch out. It also seems to combine with menopausal flushes to make me bright red.Hmm

Blackduck · 02/09/2014 12:35

Hatty I think MrsS has met Bonsoir you should ask her about her (IYSWIM)

I am full of cold and feeling distinctly under the weather....

S&B - I am here under false pretenses :)

Rosebag · 02/09/2014 13:02

Oh no, BD the change of season cold…I dread it. Get well…

cremo I've never really enjoyed alcohol, wine in particular….…it gives me a deep sort of stomach pain and none of the benefits! It's only since I've got old and crabby that I have the guts to 'fess up to it. Someone once told me that people who don't tolerate alcohol well usually do better with gin. I would have to agree and I do enjoy a gin and tonic or two, so long as I've eaten first. Quite like a glass of prosecco which also affects me less. But I often just stay on the wagon. DH likes a drink so I'm always the designated driver as a result! Hmm

Linking arms with Monty and hatty re being doctors daughters Smile Did either of you pursue medical/paramedical careers?

MI sounds like the work is rolling in…thats good, isn't it?

DD and I have just had a lovely walk through the park to the high street and the GPs. Feeling a bit better as a result. GP receptionists very helpful re letter for performance licence…says no appt needed and I can pick up on Friday. Impressed. Equally impressed (in my small little life) that a brand new, clean, shiny Costa has opened nearby. Love Costa.

DS2 has just messaged from 'The Mezz" (name of the sixth form refectory, on account of it being on the Mezzanine level…) to say he's bored and wants lessons to start. Likes the Mezz, though…apparently they're allowed to use their phones in there. WTF?

S&B alert….is there anywhere that stocks longer line blazers. I just have to cover the thunder thighs and saddle bags but don't want to look like an '80s relic. Short blazers make me look like a weeble, if that's possible at 5'7''...
