BTM!!!! Is it THE birthday????

bigTillyMint · 29/08/2014 18:59

It isn't THE birthday till Weds, but it's THE bash tomorrow nightShock

motherinferior · 29/08/2014 19:08

Have a fabulous time!

bigTillyMint · 29/08/2014 19:24

ThanksSmile I would have loved to invite you all, but DH put a limit on numbers, which I guess was sensible...

NUFC69 · 29/08/2014 19:38

Have a great time, BTM*, we'll want to hear all about it.

MI, I think that is quite encouraging and well done to your DM for being positive.

DH cycled 44 miles today and has been snoring gently in his chair. He did manage to stir himself to eat dinner. I have just made a pavlova for when the family come on Sunday. I have this thing when we go away - I gather the family for a meal just in case we don't come back, kind of like a last supper. Shock

MollyAir · 29/08/2014 20:00

I did a special meal for the family the night before ds went off to uni last year. I made the mistake of calling it, jokingly, the last supper.

She really thought I was likening him to the Messiah...not just the pfb, but...

I can assure you that her suspicions in that direction are unfounded.

Rosebag · 29/08/2014 20:02

I'm glad some more reassuring information is surfacing, MI no harm in them going away if she feels well. Thanks to you all.

Is it the big 50 Tilly? The bash sounds brilliant...I hope it goes well and everyone makes lots of fuss of you. My last "big" birthday was a couple of days before a major family function. Naturally I made lots of noises along the lines of " no need to make a fuss....we've got more important stuff going on" etc etc. So they didn't. I felt shit. Hmm Angry. You go girl...enjoy every moment.

NU lol but understand. I come from the kind of family who in the previous generation never flew together...like the royals so there was always a parent survivor in case the plane went down....you sound like a lovely family x

We are waiting for the transit to the airport. Two flights...one to the mainland and the the transatlantic from Vancouver tonight. I am looking forward to....
Catching up on Holby and GBBO; semi skimmed milk ( cream in tea...uuuurgh) and MEAT!!! Oh and also, using my BBH...it won't work here on the reduced voltage. My hair...oh my hair...

CointreauVersial · 29/08/2014 21:35

Safe home, Rose. Holiday Hair will soon be a distant memory. Grin

DH and I have just spent a frustrating half hour trying (and failing) to replace our defunct built-in microwave with the shiny new one which arrived today. It's too big for the gap! Irritatingly, the drawing I downloaded from the Hotpoint website before ordering is not the same as the one which arrived with the microwave - 2cm difference. Angry Angry So now I have a giant shelf, which I shall have to fill with cookbooks or something. Luckily they will take it back for free, but the hunt for a replacement continues....Angry

Ooh, Micky Flanagan's on! Byee...

cremolafoam · 29/08/2014 21:56

Oh how frustrating CV. That kind of thing drives me mad.Confused Hope you can get a more suitable one easily.

Rose, safe trip! This time I got a cut and blow dry on the last day of the holiday as the sand, sea and breeze had me looking almost feral. I like the cut; they seem to know instinctively how to cat the back of my hair in France. Hairdresser always leaves it too shaggy here, and relies on the ruddy straighteners to make it look right.
Must get my nails sorted ( raggedy) and a pedicure as I simply can't do it myself with sciatica. There are quite a few bits of myself I can't reach.boo

MI it is so hard to know what to do for the best( thinking of your mum) I know I'd like to be asked: please tell my if you would like hand-holding or prefer if I have practical help. It might allow her to express what she needs from you. Thanks

My poor dad went to have the catheter removed and sadly they couldn't do it. He's had it since February and really has lost control.
M&d are ire upset by this than anything so far ( including 4 heart attacks. It's what it represents I think.
A loss of the past and a lot if freedom for dad. Sad Wretched isn't it, this getting old and ill thing.,.....

beachyhead · 29/08/2014 22:00

Safe journey Rose....

I can understand your mum wanting a little break next week while waiting for news. We had some friends, some years ago, who were in the unfortunate position of 'waiting for news'. They phoned us, while we were camping, and asked if they could borrow our holiday home. We of course said yes and gave them all the directions to Ddads for keys. They arrived and found we had taken all our pillows and duvets on holidays (a fact I had completely overlooked!) and spent the next two hours rooting around in the loft looking for manky sleeping bags! Still they got the break they needed, but it wasn't quite what they wanted. Still I second a mini break to alleviate the horrid waiting time.

It's my birthday tomorrow - significant less one! WineWine

Have a lovely birthday party, BTM...

Blackduck · 29/08/2014 22:14

NUFC69 · 30/08/2014 06:27

Happy birthday to you, Beachy, have a wonderful day.

Blackduck · 30/08/2014 07:20

Happy birthday Beachy!

bigTillyMint · 30/08/2014 07:21

Happy Birthday Beachy! You really are the end of August - we would have been in the same year group, but I would have been a whole year olderGrin

Up early as DD starts back gym coaching today, but mate who did drop-off has now moved to Cali and DH needs the car to take DS to a match so I can't pick up and she is NOT happy!

Feeling a bit nervous, but long day ahead yet first!

cremolafoam · 30/08/2014 07:42

BTM - we'll need a blow by blow account of The Party!
What are you wearing? < veers thread back to S&B> ShockGrin
Taking notes....

bigTillyMint · 30/08/2014 07:55

Thanks for reminding me Cremo - it needs pressing! It's a sort of 50's style navy dress. Unless I change my mind and go for something else!

herbaceous · 30/08/2014 08:19

Happy birthdays, big and nearly big!

Holed up at aged Ps. Bit annoyed. It's a long-arranged weekend for family meet up, against which I have assiduously avoided booking anything else, and sis has bailed, saying she's too busy. So, it's just me and DS here, getting bored, frankly, awaiting arrival of mad brother for lunch. I got here yesterday lunchtime, and can't go until after lunch today.

Admittedly, she has a lot on her plate, but this is the same sis who accuses us all of not giving her family higher priority. Pot, kettle, etc.

Also, despite there being many many beds in this house, DS insisted on sleeping in mine last night, so I hardly got any sleep.

Bad. Day.

lalsy · 30/08/2014 08:22

Happy birthday Beachy, have a lovely day.

And BTM, have a great party and happy birthday for Wednesday - is that your first day back!?

Herbs, that is sooo annoying.

bigTillyMint · 30/08/2014 09:08

Herbs, grit your teeth time. And have a Wine!

Lalsy, sadly not - we go back MondayShock. But no kids till ThursdaySmile

Stropperella · 30/08/2014 09:26

Happy birthday, Beachy! And happy birthday party, BTM! Grin

Herbs, oh dear, that is vvv annoying. Hope today doesn't drag too much.

I have had my last CBT sesh, but will be going back for a review in November-ish, if all goes well. I really have a lot on my plate for the next few months, so I am feeling somewhat nervous and being a bit of a headless chicken at the moment, trying to get through the mother of all to-do lists. Ds is away at PGL this w/e with the Cubs. Taking DM out tomorrow for birthday treat which is nearly 3 months late Blush. Was going to write long update post, but have no time and tbh it's all very dull anyway. Am busy, suffice to say. And appear to have developed a chronic sciatic-ish problem with my back/leg. Has been rumbling about on and off for a year or 2, but is now there all the time and I am scoffing painkillers every day at the moment. Although strangely I had only the merest twinge when on hols. Circuit training appears to be making it worse, but will have to re-think exercise regime from the beginning of this term anyway for other reasons. Will have to go to GP. Meh.

Am probably about to embark on an odyssey of dealing with roofer, electrician, carpenter, plasterer etc during the process of having the chimney taken down and various attendant modifications. I hate all that blah, but as rainwater is now appearing out of the chimney cleaning hatch in the kitchen on the ground floor, I fear grasping this particular nettle can be put off no longer.

motherinferior · 30/08/2014 09:29

Happy birthday, Beachy! Three of DD1's friends (two of them twins) have birthdays tomorrow and then another friend on Monday. All in the same year group.

Herbs, annoying sisters are VERY ANNOYING. I speak as someone with a lovely sister who STILL annoys me sometimes. She also appears to be on holiday, selfishly, so I can't ring her up and whinge at her.

BTM, hope the party is fabulous and you dance on tables into the small hours.

Cremo, that's truly tough about your dad.

Molly, PLEASE tell me you said "He's not the Messiah, he's a very norty boy"???

I've snapped up a cheap day ticket so I'm going to zip up to Naaarch later and stay with old friend (who was, once upon a time, a rather fabulous young French teacher who arrived when I was in the upper-sixth) and meet DP and the kids chez my parents tomorrow.

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/08/2014 10:05

Happy Birthday BTM and Beachy!

My get up and go seems to have got up and gone, not helped by the fact that no-one in this place ever wants to do anything. Even the cats are still asleep. Think I will make some bread, and maybe make some mincemeat this weekend - does anyone want a jar? Will also make some Christmas pudding vodka...
