Is it the grenadine and cremant that's a typo?Wink Enjoy!

MrsSchadenfreude · 21/08/2014 21:12

Took DD1 back to school. She spent the entire journey saying she hated school and didn't want to go back, was greeted by two friends when she arrived and disappeared off for something to eat! So it can't be that bad. Still need to have words about her timetable as she has been bumped out of the Advanced History class and Art and we don't understand why.

And congratulations to all of the DC who have done well in their exams!

Birthday Girl DD2 is (obviously) summer-born but has always been quite grown-up for her age, and certainly not lagging behind educationally - I think this is largely due to the fact that she is the youngest of three, so has always been in the company of older ones. Her friend for most of primary school was the oldest in the year - they are something like 350 days apart. But best friend is an eldest sibling.

It remains (of course) to be seen if things will change at secondary school...

Blackduck · 22/08/2014 08:29

Will catch up on all news when home but congrats Auriga on job, Stropps on results and BTM on kitchen
MI sorry to hear about dm.
MrsS I'd have killed your mother by now.

Bathroom not finished. I am contemplating staying here....

MontserratCaballe · 22/08/2014 08:57

Having terrible trouble with phone which keeps cutting out. Time for an upgrade.

I am so sorry to hear about your mum, MI. I hope that the tests provide reassurance for you both. Thinking of you.

Auriga, a new job, many congratulations. When do you start?

Congratulations to all sitters in the exam results, especially to those who had a struggle and overcame it.

Rose, hope you haven't been eaten or chased by a bear. Stay safe and have fun.

Am going to post before phone dies. last day on beach today. Kids want to have a burger at the swanky burger bar for supper whereas I was thinking of something a bit more glam and less carby. I have eaten and drunk a lot this holiday. My "check liver " light will come on soon. Must get back on it next week or my work clothes won't fit. U

Have a great day everyone.

NUFC69 · 22/08/2014 12:05

Everyone must be busy this morning ...

I have been gardening and cleaning all morning prior to going out on my bike this afternoon. It's actually lovely outside for a change, although I understand that a frost is due for swathes of the country on Sunday. Shock

motherinferior · 22/08/2014 12:36

Ooh, when do you go on holiday? And where and how long for?

NUFC69 · 22/08/2014 12:47

Are you asking me, MI? If so, on the 2nd September for three weeks. Yippee!

What is it like being back to work? I used to hate the way that within days the holiday just disappeared.

cremolafoam · 22/08/2014 13:01

Hi all,
Congrats on that piece MI , excellent, and very timely for me obviously . Am taking notes.
Auriga , many congratulations on the new job! Also wishing you a lovely holiday and I am very relieved that your dd got to take part in the BBC thing.Smile
Happy belated to dd CV. I too was a summer baby. In their infinite wisdom in the 70s I got to do year 7 twice ( 2 sets of 11+) so that in wasn't too young. Instead I was nearly 19 on leaving school.Shock But was definitely more prepared, on balance, for the great wide world .

Last day en France. Feeling wistful.

NUFC69 · 22/08/2014 13:03

Enjoy your last day, Crem. I hope that you have all had a great time. Safe journey home tomorrow.

Auriga · 22/08/2014 13:37

More congratulations to Rosebag's DS and to BTM's DD and Addle's DS. It's a measure of the pressure they're under now that they can be disappointed with perfectly good results, isn't it?

The concert, Britten's War Requiem was utterly amazing. Chorus sounded fantastic, so did orchestra & soloists. It was dramatic & emotional, almost overwhelming at times. After the last chord died away there was a long, reverent silence before the applause began.

DD said the chorus master told them that the bit where the organ joins in the Libera Me would be the most exciting moment of their lives - and it was.

Thanks for job congrats - it's a special advisor role with a regulatory body, so part-time and should be interesting.

bigTillyMint · 22/08/2014 13:39

Am enjoying my free slice of carrot cake in JL having put the DC on the train to the PIL caravan - bliss! Am postponing going back to do last bit of papering in DDs room...

Cremo, enjoy your last day!

cremolafoam · 22/08/2014 14:07

Thanks BTM . We are now in ELelerc doing a mass Supermarket Sweep:
Armagnac, cidre, Marseillaise shower gel, crème de marron, walnut oil, strings of garlic, chocolat noir, Carambars , caramel buerre salee in jars, wine, more wine, enough Cremant for Xmas dinner, stationary,
Dry cleaning spray full of illegal chemicals, etc.
we are tarts . It's like the final day before the apocalypse.Grin

bigTillyMint · 22/08/2014 14:15

Yummm! Not the cleaning stuff though!

Must shift myself back home.

MrsS, did u fix a date for a next week? Tues/Wed/Thurs all poss for me atm, Wed poss best!

CointreauVersial · 22/08/2014 15:20

Oh, I love a French supermarché. Usually our spending is curtailed because the car is generally stuffed to the rafters with suitcases and smelly laundry by the time we get to it.

I'm just back from Guildford - took the DCs (and NDN's son) here for an hour's jumping around (while I observed from behind a novel and a cappuccino). DS took his GoPro camera and took some great shots of bouncing feet. After that we had a quick blast around town to pick up the last few bits and bobs for school (bras, tights and pencil cases). I was very good and didn't buy anything (not that the DCs would have let me pause long enough to do so).

Just heard a splash and a scream from outside - DD1 has just done the Ice Bucket Challenge. Grin

Rosebag · 22/08/2014 17:40

Hail crepeys, from Vancouver, which I think I'm going to like very much! I have declared the next few days, REST days...pool, beach and strolling around. In lovely hotel on the marina. Nearly committed murder last night when DHs phone rang at 2 am as he didn't put it in silent. I am very angry with him for not thinking of others. I'm turning off my devices at night owing to the time difference. I did sleep again eventually til nine though. Our experience on board the Rocky Mountaineer has been one of a life time and we will never forget it. DS, although being grumpy with no wifi on board has been speaking French for two days with French speaking Canadians on the train from Quebec and Ottawa. Everyone in your carriage gets very friendly. Love train travel over all forms. Highly recommend NU. If you want more information let me know.

MI I do hope tests for your DM prove reassuring. Waiting for results is the worst time. Hugs to you xxx

Auriga well done on job!

MrsS don't engage with DM....don't get Into the detail of the discussions...

Great news and pats in back to all DC with results. I too feel the obsession with getting A for everything is way out of proportion and as some one said up thread, it's just a means to an end or on to the next stage , which in DSs case is A levels and he got A or A in all his chosen A level subjects for next year. But he's gutted over the Bs, one in English Lang ( which he hates any way) and amazingly one in ICT which he took out of school having not actually studied the course!!!

Now let's see if we can have a conversation about where to go for breakfast without any arguments....

Blackduck · 22/08/2014 17:56

Bilbao airport on my 15 mins free wifi.
Time to get home - even if the bathroom isn't finished....

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/08/2014 18:58

Am not feeling well - went to bed early last night, not feeling any better today. Upset stomach, joyfully joined by horrific period pain.

Dragged myself round the Gilbert & George exhibition this morning. DD2 refused point blank to look at anything, so we left her on a chair in the hall for an hour or so.

Wednesday would be as good as any day for a drink.

I buy from French supermarkets: drinking chocolate, rillettes (for me and the cat as no-one else likes them), Eau Jeune Eau Fraiche perfume (classy me), Bien Etre Eau de Cologne, Menier chocolate for cooking, sweetened shredded coconut, bags of praline... Didn't know about the dry cleaning spray - sounds good!

I want your holiday next year, Rose! Actually, what I want from a holiday is for someone else to book it and sort it all out and for me just to turn up. That would be enough for me.

Hello Crepeys - just to say I'm back after three WiFi less weeks. Have been to the Dordogne (and canoed), the Alpes (MiL), plus a childless weekend in Venice - very crowded.

Now full steam ahead to uni - MI have copied your article for myself and DDSmile.

Fantastic news and many congratulations to Crem and Lalsy's DD's and the younger Crepeys doing AS and GCSE's.

I've skimmed through thread so not entirely up to date but will catch up later. For those in France, tomorrow is a major travel day on the roads so set off early.

motherinferior · 22/08/2014 19:24

I didn't know you could still get Eau Jeune!

We have absolutely no food in the house. DP is picking up fish and chips.

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/08/2014 19:27

I was going to ask you to pick me up a bottle, MI! But I found one in my toiletries stash.

Glad I am not the only one who occasionally has no food in the house (or nothing to make a meal that everyone would eat). DD2 is always clamouring for fish and chips, shall I send her over?

OP posts:
motherinferior · 22/08/2014 19:29

We never, ever, have F&C. I am slavering. DD1 has just got back and is allegedly "still upset" about something I did or didn't do...

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/08/2014 19:45

DD1 said she really likes her new room mate. Smile So that is a positive - she said that as well as looking really alike (!) that they seem to be quite similar and both like to be on their own from time to time, so that bodes well.
