Well done Sherlock Cremo for spotting that!

Congrats, Auriga!Flowers

motherinferior · 21/08/2014 14:19

Auriga! Well done!! And thank you for the info - this is the one condition that totally freaks me, tbh.

I am SO COLD.

NUFC69 · 21/08/2014 14:29

Yes, I missed that, Auriga, congratulations! When do you start?

MI, I am frozen, too. In fact we put the central heating on over lunch to take the chill off (DH has since put it off again).

bigTillyMint · 21/08/2014 14:35

I am cold too, but DH has decreed no heating till September!

Stropperella · 21/08/2014 14:51

Fantastic news, Auriga! Well done. And I hope you enjoy your very well-served holiday.

BTM and Molly, well done also to your dds. Sorry your dd was disappointed with her chemistry result, BTM.
Dd had the salutary experience this morning of having to give a good friend of hers his results over the phone as he is out of the country. Friend has SN and is at the other end of the ability scale, but tries vvvv hard and still did not get the basic grades he needed and he cried. As did various family members. So whilst she is sour about dipping out on some of her grades, she is (I hope) keeping some perspective on things. That said, she is now v. grumpy after texting and messaging for the last couple of hours and comparing her results to everyone else's.
Difficult as the last 2 years have been (and trust me, they have), I'm still proud that she's done ok in her bog-standard and enormous comp without any tutoring or suchlike, despite her own best efforts to repeatedly shoot herself in the foot. I am hopeful that she has learnt a few valuable lessons and that what she has achieved will give her confidence to overcome the anxiety which is still a big problem for her on a daily basis. However, only time will tell. Now she has the trauma of deciding what A levels she wants to do. I expect much faffing..

Rosebag · 21/08/2014 15:09

No time. Will post properly from Vancouver tomorrow. DS got stunning results. 5 a* 3 a and 2 b. is obsessing about the bs.

NUFC69 · 21/08/2014 15:34

Well done to DS, too, Rose. Have you enjoyed the Rocky Mountaineer?

cremolafoam · 21/08/2014 15:44

Stropps, I know you have had a really difficult time with dd . But she now has a realistic idea about what she actually needs to do to get a certain grade. Tbh I think she's done brilliantly with those A*s and As and Stropps you should be very proud of Yourself for your encouragement.

Sadly a fair bit of the AS level choice can come down to time tabling .Confused

We are in Normandy and it is blowy and cold at the American Cemetery.
I need to know how long it is until my next crepe . < stares at dh> brr.

bigTillyMint · 21/08/2014 15:59

Stropps, she has done really well regardless of any difficulties. Given the anxiety stuff, it is particularly well done!
Well done to DS2, Rose - you are right - they are great results!

Why are they beating themselves up over getting good results? DD seems to be hiding at her friendsSad

Cremo, what kind of crepe will it be?!

CointreauVersial · 21/08/2014 16:40

Some fantastic results from the junior crepeys - funny how they are all focusing on the "Bs" or the "two marks off an A*" I guess, as long as they get the grades necessary to open the doors to the next stage in their education, that everything else will soon be forgotten.

I spotted the "new job" comment, Auriga - well done, how exciting!

MI - sorry to hear about your DM. Fingers firmly crossed it turns out to be something which can be dealt with.

And MrsS, sorry to hear about yours too. Wink

Monty - I forgot to say, well done on dragging your crew to the Tate for some cult-cha. Shamefully, I spent a week in a house less than 100 metres away and never made it over the threshold. Blush In my defence, the sun was shining.

I've just arrived home from work to find the house blissfully peaceful deserted - DH has taken the day off and is out somewhere with the DCs, because it is Littley's birthday. Eleven today. She was very pleased with her presents (pierced ears, wireless speakers, and a GiffGaff SIM for my ancient mobile phone), and I have been instructed to cook spaghetti bolognaise and cake for tea.

motherinferior · 21/08/2014 16:56

I have capitulated to my children and bought them school uniform. God I hate buying school uniform.

bigTillyMint · 21/08/2014 17:37

Glad to hear that, MI - what were you expecting them to wear?Grin

motherinferior · 21/08/2014 17:42

Ragged uniform. Cast-off uniform. Pant-revealing outgrown uniform. I'm still not in the hang of buying uniform, and there's so much of it. Even for a remarkably shabby low-key school. They still need shoes. And socks. And a sweatshirt for PE. DP can sort that on Saturday while I go out for brunch with v old friend who has new bloke and wants to tell me all about him. Wink

motherinferior · 21/08/2014 17:45

ooh look

beachyhead · 21/08/2014 18:03

Woo hoo MI. And congratulations to the fresh faced Crepeys! Excellent results all round.

I am, ever so slightly (!), getting sick if the summer holidays. There is much bad behaviour from dd 2, which is greeted by much shouting from dh and general admonishment's from the other dc's. I then leave the room, amongst much shouting that I am 'Doing Nothing'.... I am a smidgen fed up. Plus we are packing to camp away until bank holiday Monday in the mud and rain. I have bought a new book and I shall sport my poncho jauntily!

MollyAir · 21/08/2014 18:18

Oooh, that article is very good, MI. And I agree with it. Wink

motherinferior · 21/08/2014 18:21

I have written most of a feature about an obscure eye condition and have to cook supper. I don't want to cook supper...

addle · 21/08/2014 19:00

Congratulations to Stropp's DD and Auriga! V lovely news.

Sorry about your DM, MI. Fingers crossed and thinking of you.

My DS, like BTM's DD, disappointed and fed up but realistically it's only Y10 dammit, he didn't do badly at all and he only turned 15 2 days ago ...

NUFC69 · 21/08/2014 19:09

I am glad that you found the article, MI - I enjoyed it and I don't even have DC who are preparing for uni.

Three weeks ago today DD and family moved in to their new house. Today BT finally got the special line working for DSiL's home office. It was booked in for the day after the move and, of course, he has lost business because of the problem. Shock I don't suppose for one minute he'll get compensation.

NUFC69 · 21/08/2014 19:14

Sorry that DS is upset, Addle. I do feel for the younger ones in the year - my DS is a July birthday and didn't actually start school until the September after he was five. We moved here when he was 6 and all the children in his new class had started a whole year before him which didn't help either.

Baby GS put on 13oz this week so we're all delighted.

bigTillyMint · 21/08/2014 19:39

The summer-born thing has only really appeared to be an issue in the last couple of years for DD, IMHO. She was fine in primary, but I do feel she would have benefited emotionally from being in the year below since secondary.

She is pissed off because she has under-achieved according to predictions and all mocks, CA's etc. I am hoping she will not want to retake because of pride, as she is unlikely to take it at A'level.

bigTillyMint · 21/08/2014 20:00

MI I was reading through the article and then scrolled back to the top and realised it was written by you Grin Flowers

MollyAir · 21/08/2014 20:17

I was summer-born, and I can tell you it accounts for a great many of the problems I had at secondary school.

Stropperella · 21/08/2014 20:18

Dd was a July baby and has spent her whole school career to date running to catch up socially and emotionally. She is still very young for her years.
A* for the article MI. Grin

Am bunking off circuits to drink grenadine and Cremant with dd.

Stropperella · 21/08/2014 20:24

Jeez, the old auto-correct gremlin has been fiddling with a few of my posts today - soz about the typos.
