MrsS, as I took full control of the kitchen, DH was on the holiday - did a brilliant job (apart from the last bit trying to book air bnb, so I did step up to do that bit!) Although I have to say that he would be fcuked in Nicaragua without me - I didn't speak a word of Spanish before we went, but I can now just about manage most tourist situations and can understand quite a lot of written Spanish (thanks to Modern Family subtitles!)
Your DD's new roommate sounds good. Are they really back on a bank hol weekend? (result!)

We only have F&C on occasion, MI. Infact the DC don't - they prefer saveloy, preferably battered (DD) or burger(DS)!

DD's room is done - wallpaper looks a bit bodgit and scarper, but DH and I have rearranged and it is looking good! And we went out to the pub to celebrate, on our ownSmile

So next Wed? MrsS, MI, Herbs, me, anyone else?

cremolafoam · 22/08/2014 21:45

Mrs S I have , about my person a giant bottle of bien Etre in the green flavour. I've been using it for years too. Now syphoned into little spray bottles from Poundland ( extra classy) for handbag use. Eau jeune ( eau Fraiche ) also a fave , still avail at Monoprix.GrinGrinGrin
Hatty hello ! Welcome back!
We have hit the Normandy Coast for the ferry thereby managing to avoid Noir day on the A10. Mind you I think many headed off last week as the weather was a bit rubbish.

hattymattie · 22/08/2014 21:54

Weather's been a bit rubbish all over France this summer Crem, it has obviously been raining in Paris by the look of my cherry tomato plants which are laden.

Tomorrow, IKEA, as DS and DD1 are swapping bedrooms - DD going in the small room which needs to be adapted to her (she's a bit beyond bunk beds).

herbaceous · 22/08/2014 22:15

Well done mini/creped. Yet more brains in evidence.

Had a delicious farewell meal in the Blue Ball, as recommended by WAF, and now odd to bed. Had weird ad-related headache all day, so hopefully an early night will kill it. Leaving by 10 tomorrow, so much packing to be done in the morn.

First signs of girl-interest from DS in restaurant. He looked all dreamy, saying 'that waitress is So Beautiful.'

Then, urgently, 'Dont tell her, mummy. Please. Don't say anything.' He's five. Just.

Have had to stroke DP's brow most of today, as he's been really feeling the loss of his dad. Fridays are the worst, it seems.

Another castle on the agenda en route to pals' house in Bristol tomorrow.

motherinferior · 22/08/2014 22:15

I am SO COLD. I have reached that bit of the year when I refuse to wear quite enough clothes (for me - for anyone else they would be perfectly adequate but I get v cold) before capitulating to layers of thermals and sheepskin insoles. By midwinter I am insulated from the outside world.

motherinferior · 22/08/2014 22:18

Poor DP, Herbs. Mr Inferior came home in tears yesterday because he went to a retirement do just before we went on hols...and the (v nice) bloke who was retiring was killed in a boating accident this week.ShockHmm

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/08/2014 22:30

Oh God, MI, that is terrible. So sorry.

OP posts:
MollyAir · 22/08/2014 22:35

I'd love to come to my first Crepey meet-up on Wednesday, please. My diary is rather empty for next week, which reminds me of another disadvantage for those of us who have late summer birthdays - everyone goes away, and parties are pointless. Although, being Leos, we tend to have huge do's in September.

MI, dh has been touchingly tearful at significant events in the ds saga, including this morning, when ds' place at the new uni was finally, definitely confirmed. Aw. To fill in for other crepeys: ds has switched from a course at one uni to a different course at a different uni. For complicated reasons to do with a serious sports injury and the fallout therefrom, not least what I suspect was a touch of Post-Traumatic Stress.

cremolafoam · 22/08/2014 22:54

MI how utterly awful. And sad.Sad

Poor mr Herbs. I do think it comes in waves herbs.

Molly that must be a relief for you all, ( about ds)

MollyAir · 22/08/2014 23:24

Huge relief, Crem. And now I have a fresher on my hands again, so I can hand-hold with those of you who have dc newly off to uni.

Rosebag · 22/08/2014 23:33

I'm so sorry that some DPs are feeling sad. mrsS a tour company put together our trip but we were very specific and detailed about what we wanted. We also researched all the hotels they suggested and rejected some of them on various grounds. Eg I wanted pools at all the Vancouver places and they're first suggestions of hotels didn't have. We then googled and came up with what we wanted and told the tour company to come up with a price. It's a lot of attention to detail. DH did a lot of it but I vetoed things I didn't like.
Hope stomach and period pain get better.
Having a truly relaxing day. Just had late lunch by the pool and DD us back swimming. Me soon. DH gone to explore a bit. This is do needed.
MI we love fish and chips but I'm not a fan of batter. Enjoy!

Blackduck · 23/08/2014 07:00

Sounds like a wonderful holiday Rose.
Herbs sorry to hear dp is feeling blue - likewise MI.

At inlaws and heading home to half tiled bathroom :(. Sil expressly against orders has left us lots of JL/waitrose vouchers in compensation for taking DNiece with us (personally I think we should pay her for putting up with ds for a week....)

I have an extra long weekend to deal with the laundry and stuff....... Cool.....

Blackduck · 23/08/2014 07:01

Oh yes, and I got stopped at the airport (as predicted) as i had the children....... So three surnames between the three of us.

bigTillyMint · 23/08/2014 08:34

MI, that is such a sad story and just underlines a chat I had with a slightly older friend about seizing the moment as we just don't know what the future holds.
Sad for your DP too Herbs, but good that he is "letting it out" and you are there to support him.

Molly, that's great news - meet-up and DS. That's the kind of story that should give us all hope that nothing is unfixable!

Cremo/Herbs/Rose glad you have had/are having lovely hols!

BD express sympathies on bathroom - why is it that these things always take twice as long as they originally say?Angry

QQ how is your kitchen coming along?

NUFC69 · 23/08/2014 08:53

Morning all, welcome home to those returning from holidays.

Rose, perhaps I can pick your brain some time about the Rocky Mountaineer, please. We have rather got in a rut with our September holidays and have done different things in western America for the last ten years or so. This week we decided that we needed to do some things before age insurance caught up with us even more.

Herbs and MI, sorry that your DPs are feeling sad - good that they have supportive partners.

I have just done an hour on the exercise bike so now cream crackered - wish I was playing badminton with DH.

motherinferior · 23/08/2014 09:03

I have a rather nice day of seeing friends ahead of me (there will be No Charity Shop Unvisited in south London by Dr Who time), have written for an hour and am about to do a long walk to my first destination, as I have been virtually immobile for the past three days and the scales are creaking.

MrsSchadenfreude · 23/08/2014 09:12

Where are we going to go on Wednesday then?

OP posts:
MrsSchadenfreude · 23/08/2014 09:13

DD1 got an entire new wardrobe from the charity shop she worked in over the summer. For about a fiver. Grin

MollyAir · 23/08/2014 10:01

I'm easy about where we meet, MrsS. Have Oystercard, will travel. We met in Waterloo with the other MNers, didn't we?

BTM, thanks for your kind words. Very good point about things seeming like the end of the world, but actually being fixable; and in fact hopefully turning out to be 'all for the best', etc. I hope ds has got that message now. The only thing is, to make things fixable, you have to a) tell people and b) ask for help.

bigTillyMint · 23/08/2014 10:05

Let's go to one of our usual haunts/somewhere new and exciting in town that is easy for Herbs to get to as she has the small-child babysitting to sort.

MI, will you be coming to purvey the charitee shoppes round my manor?!

Blackduck · 23/08/2014 11:00

Would love to come for a drink this week, but back at work on Wednesday. Any date planned for back to school?

MollyAir · 23/08/2014 11:22

I think we should have a Crepey Competition for Best Charity Shoppes, to be judged by MI. My manor will win

MrsSchadenfreude · 23/08/2014 11:48

We are getting ready to go to PIL for DSIL's birthday bash. I bought her a scarf, which came wrapped in a nice clear cellophane package. In the five minutes I left it on the dining table, while I went in search of wrapping paper, scissors and sellotape, the cat jumped on the table and licked it lavishly. So I have had to rewrap the bloody thing (scarf not cat) in tissue and it looks like a dog's breakfast. Gave cellophane to cat who is in seventh heaven, lying on his back, holding it between his paws and licking it, making little grunty noises, while simultaneously kicking the shit out of it with his rear paws. Confused

We are supposed to leave in an hour and DH has just decided that he urgently needs trousers and has gone into town to get some... Angry

OP posts:
NUFC69 · 23/08/2014 12:52

Grin that would be our cat, too, MrsS. I feel your pain with regard to DH and suddenly deciding he needs something - my DH is exactly the same. In the week he decided he needed some new navy summer trousers. Well, possibly, but why didn't he look at the start of the season? He has at least agreed to have a look today at holiday clothing: his favourite is to get something out of the wardrobe the evening before we go only to discover it wants washing. Sad

hattymattie · 23/08/2014 18:29

Great news for your son Molly and welcome to the fresher's groupWink. Have spend the morning at IKEA and the afternoon assembling, cleaning house and doing post holiday laundry. DD's room looks quite cosy and I'm almost feeling jealous. DH and I both exhausted and will be collapsing in front of Dr Who with beer and crisps!
