Can s and b exist without judging?

(It's about Another thread, yeah yeah whatever)

It's about skirts. People do like these skirts and. People don't like these skirts. All at once there was the criticism that this is a horrible thread.

Can you discuss fashion choices without some judging? Or would that lead to posts like 'well if you like it that's nice.' Which are nice but unhelpful if needing advice.

Summer scarf thread
Dishevelled thread

lurkingaround · 08/08/2014 12:00

Sheesh life would be boring if we all agreed. Like someone said, it ain't personal, it's about the style, not the person. But anyone who doesn't like smoked salmon is craaazzy.

santamarianovella · 08/08/2014 15:19

Thanks for the dishevelled thread links

thisbitch you are right, sometimes people take things too personal, we all think that a certain item or look suits us,when in reality its a complete disaster, I would be greatfull if someone pointed out and said "look Santa, i love you,you are drop dead gorgous Wink and i know these boots are givenchy ,but they really look horrible on you,you don't have the legs for these kinds of boots, they look chunky on you, stop pretending you are Barbara Martelo , take them off,and never ever wear them again, understood?" Grin

MissBeehiving · 08/08/2014 16:32

Anyone who doesn't like smoked salmon is clearly deranged Wink

It's only clothes, so it's really quite hard to get worked up about whether someone likes something or not. Although the comment about lace shorts looking like French knickers has stayed with me and has prevented me from buying a pair

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/08/2014 16:58

So tempted to flounce over smoked salmon, but I just can't perfect that wronged, sniffy, outraged tone that people do on the S&B threads when, for example, somebody tells them that their see-through leggings and sheer crop top are really not the right thing to wear to a wedding.

Although, clearly anybody who likes smoked salmon is a nob.

For remus yum!

Can s and b exist without judging?
LinusDKD · 08/08/2014 17:10

this maybe not so yum. Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/08/2014 17:14

I got all excited when I saw the word Macaroons come up.

Yuck.

LinusDKD · 08/08/2014 17:18

I know! I love macarons, I love smoked salmon, but together? Bleurgh.

santamarianovella · 08/08/2014 17:24

remus not even the lapsang souchong smoked salmon? It's scrumptious, I could eat it everyday,

dexter73 · 08/08/2014 18:19

The thing I don't like about smoked salmon is that the taste hangs about for so long. It's a nice taste while you are eating it but not so much 4 hours later yuk!

lurkingaround · 08/08/2014 19:44

Oh Remus! I take umbrage at your comment re smacked salmon and nobs! How very dare you. Grin

lurkingaround · 08/08/2014 19:48

Argh! smoked salmon, not smacked. Grin
I sound like Franc that wedding planner in the Steve Martin movie about the daughter's wedding.

polyhymnia · 08/08/2014 19:51

I recently asked for views on a particular pair of shoes I'd been thinking of buying -must have had doubts or wouldn't have asked - and got lots of very honest answers, the vast majority saying that they were awful.

Really felt people were giving a frank aesthetic judgment on the shoes, not a personal judgment on me. What would almost certainly would have been an expensive mistake. That, for me, is an example of S and B at its best.

polyhymnia · 08/08/2014 19:51

And I like sm salmon but only if it's top quality, not coarse and oily

polyhymnia · 08/08/2014 19:52

Smoked !

LinusDKD · 08/08/2014 20:05

lurking you nearly made me spit out my wine with your smacked salmon.

Been reading too much 50 Shades? Hmm

lurkingaround · 08/08/2014 22:38

Linus! Grin

Is there smacked salmon in 50 shades?!!!

LinusDKD · 09/08/2014 08:55

Imagine! "No salmons were hurt during the making of this film" Grin

This thread has been slightly derailed by the Smoked Salmon Appreciation Society, sorry. I'll stop now.

MarshaBrady · 09/08/2014 08:58

I want good opinions on whether stuff is nice. I cba going through the delivery and return process if it's wrong and I don't want expensive mistakes.

OneLittleLady · 09/08/2014 09:51

I like it when people give honest opinions about the clothes/shoes but not if it turns into insulting the person. There's never any need to dish out personal insults. Judging the item/s in question is fine though. Oh, and I like smoked salmon!

Floisme · 09/08/2014 10:11

I think it's different though when you've asked for opinions. It's when you haven't but some random poster who sounds like they're trying to polish up a stand-up routine comes along, mouths off about your favourite stuff and then disappears... that's when people get upset.

I've joined in that type of thread myself by the way so I'm not claiming any moral high ground. I just don't think it's quite the same as someone asking 'should I should buy this bag?'

AnathemaIsANiceNameForAGirl · 09/08/2014 11:55

Really felt people were giving a frank aesthetic judgment on the shoes, not a personal judgment on me

Which is fine, and there are loads of threads on which this happens. You asked for and got. I think that's one thing.

But would be different if you had bought the shoes, loved them, and posted a pic of yourself wearing them, saying "look at my new shoes, I adore them!" and someone went "actually they are hideous and they make your legs look stumpy."

polyhymnia · 09/08/2014 12:34

Yes, I agree.
