Chopping all my hair off...

I'm feeling in need of a change, so this week I've decided to go from my past-shoulder-length hair, to next to nothing (something like the picture, but darker hair).

I have a long neck so I'm hoping to be able to pull it off, but have no idea about styling or even what cut I'm asking for.

My hair is curly/wavy and I don't want it shaved or shaped too severely.

Does anyone have any tips and more importantly, what cut am I asking for?!

Wow you look so much younger! Very nice, are you pleased?

MyGastIsFlabbered · 23/08/2014 16:20

I think I'm still in shock but I love how it feels. And I think I can do different things with it if I want to.

DachshundGirl · 23/08/2014 16:20

Looks great Smile makes me want to cut mine short again, but it never looked as nice as yours does Envy

Elliptic5 · 23/08/2014 16:55

Looks fantastic! Much younger Smile

MissScatterbrain · 23/08/2014 17:55

Cocolepew · 23/08/2014 18:46

You look great! Lovely Smile

ninaprettyballerina · 23/08/2014 18:51

interesting thread.... so who wouldn't suit the pixie cut? I'm slightly podgy, slight double chin and don't tend to wear girly clothes. Best to avoid??

TeaAndALemonTart · 23/08/2014 19:05

I love it.

ballsballsballs · 23/08/2014 20:25

nina I'm slightly podgy, have a slight double chin and live in jeans. I look fabulous in a pixie cut :)

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 23/08/2014 22:07

Wow, gast! You look amazing! It's so different, and all in a good way :)

Expect to find yourself constantly surprised by mirrors for a few days :o

I really am so impressed by the change.

Nina, I'm mostly in non-girly clothes, I think it suits most people. Join us!

And gast, I was trying to think of the right description for yours, and I think it's "funky" :o

Love it Gast! Poppy, love that style, very Demi Moore circa Ghost Smile

MyGastIsFlabbered · 23/08/2014 23:05

Thank you for all your kind words. I think I love it but it's still a shock, it's soooo different!

PoppysStyle · 24/08/2014 00:41

It looks amazing!! I think shorter hair can take years of people - it doesn't weigh you down. Follow @Nothingbutpixies on instagram - she has amazing photos for inspiration.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 24/08/2014 08:29

Can someone explain styling products to me. Last time I had short hair there was basically gel or wax, now there's gel, wax, clay, putty Confused what does what?

TeenageMutantNinjaTurtle · 24/08/2014 08:38

I really want to do this to my hair. Wavey and chin length at the moment. It looks shit tied back but irritates me loose. I haven't plucked up the courage yet and dh was a bit Shock when I mentioned it...

bobkate · 24/08/2014 12:30

gast you look lovely. Are you pleased you went for it? I think it really suits you Smile

MyGastIsFlabbered · 24/08/2014 19:56

Yes am really pleased although haven't washed it yet which I'm a bit worried about!

MyGastIsFlabbered · 25/08/2014 17:32

I'm starting to feel nervous about going to work tomorrow!

CalamityKate1 · 25/08/2014 17:42

I'd love to give short hair a try but:

I have no neck.
I have a double chin.
My hair is fine, dead straight and floppy.

Just not feasible, is it? :(

FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 25/08/2014 21:07

You ladies have inspired me! DH is away, so I'm thinking of doing it before he gets back on Friday... I have a lot of hair, currently bra strap length. I haven't had it cut in over a year. I don't know if I'll cope with a 6 weekly cut, but since I tend to stick it in a ponytail every morning and that's it for the day I want to do something more interesting with it. This is me. The longer hair is pic I used the last time I went for a major chop, and the Jenna Elfman one is the one I'm thinking of going for this time. Any opinions?

Yes, the shorter one, the volume around your ears would really look beautiful with your face shape. Would you change the colour also or keep it natural? Because either would work on you!

FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 25/08/2014 22:15

Thanks Gilbert! Definitely keeping my own bottled colour, I'd never cope with having to have that kept up too! I've just googled some of the really good local salons and the prices are a bit less scary than I expected.

kaykayblue · 26/08/2014 13:02

Fruit - If you're going to cut your hair then I'll take it!!

I didn't go for a pixie but cut my hair off to just below my ears, five months ago.

It wasn't the best decision I ever made, and now all I can do is stare wistfully at pictures of ladies with gorgeous long hair!

I would definitely recommend that you keep some length around the face, without it being as poofy at the sides like in the third picture. Maybe something like this:

FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 26/08/2014 20:30

Argh, that is what I'm afraid of, Kay, that I'll get over the initial euphoria of it and then it'll drive me mad! I've pinned a load of slightly longer pixie cuts and I'm going to see the creative director of a local salon and get some advice. I'm really lucky that my hair grows like grass which will probably drive me mad when I'm trying to keep a pixie cut looking presentable so if I hate it, it shouldn't take too long to get it to something I like better.
