Hi all.. , several of us on S&B have been posting about our clothese spending ( we know thatis what S&B is about [smile}.

We have wardrobes and chest of drawers utterlyand totally rammed...

We have piles of clothese we've even forgotten we have,(some with the lables still on )

We obsessively peruse S&B looking at recommendations (and then buy them, just because there are there)

We have no willpower,(yet Wink)

We are a friend to every online shop and discount offer going..(not to mention credit card companies)

We just cannot resist sales..

Our postmen and women and the local couriers are getting to know us better than our friends and neighbours..

BUT we want toget back into control and just enjoy what we have to wear.

To this end We the Undersigned PLEDGE to a NO spend August on clothes bags, accessories and shoes (and also make up and beauty products if that is your weakness)

The ONLY exceptions will be tights, basic underwear (knickers and bras) and to replace something that has Genuinley worn out..

It will be hard .. It will be tough.. We will have to be accountable to each other ..BUT WE CAN DO IT!

So Who's in? Smile

Sign up below .. (and try and resist spending for the rest of July.. this is NOT atime to stock up before too late!!)..

those who sign up wil be prepared check in here regularily

(A tyrant ain't I? Grin

green i am absolutely delighted for you!! Please do post a poc. They are so beautiful on their website, i bet they are even nicer on foot!
Well i wore my boots again today. It's only the right foot that hurts (weird) but having pounded the streets for 3 hrs they are finally 'giving' and i see light at the end of the tunnel thank feck

Boght nothng today despite mooching in both massimo dutti and cod. Nothing. Go me! Well done on those who have abstained completely so far. We are nearly there Smile. But i think i am going to try again in September. hopeful Smile

CoconutAmericano · 23/08/2014 13:41

Cos, not cod lol

CoconutAmericano · 23/08/2014 13:43

sludge- can you say what your blog is? I follow a few bloggers. I do enjoy a good blog Smile

Greengardenpixie · 23/08/2014 13:49

Ha ha coconut...bloody predictive text...post a poc cod

Think i will try and cut down in September. Decided i think i am just going to allwo myself a budget and thats it...once its spent its spent.

CoconutAmericano · 23/08/2014 14:10

Yes, i think setting a budget is a good idea. I will have one splurge a month because really, i don't need a single item of winter clothing. So what i do buy will be an indulgence. I am setting my spend at €100 pm and that is it. I need absolutely nothing. This does not include buying for my dd's but they need very little also.

SludgeBrown · 23/08/2014 17:29

Thank you Greengardenpixie

The blog is iwontwearsludgebrown.blogspot.co.uk CoconutAmericano

I'm setting a budget of £100 per month come September and I think my first purchases will be black cigarette pants and black skinny joggers. That's probably the £100 gone. It doesn't go very far does it!!

CoconutAmericano · 23/08/2014 18:27

Oh I'm liking your blog sludge and now i really want beige cigarette pants Sad. You have styled them so well.

MrsEboJones76 · 23/08/2014 19:46

Determined not to buy anything else this month. Totting up my spending was sobering as I told myself I'd bought 'virtually nothing' this month.
Sludge you're right, the budget doesn't go far!
I'm going to a 40th birthday next weekend and am determined to put together an outfit from my existing wardrobe rather than using it as an excuse to hit the shops.

SludgeBrown · 23/08/2014 22:21

Thanks CoconutAmericano they're old and I'd forgotten about them. Wasn't sure whether the white shirt was a little too long actually. You know when you feel not quite right all day? That. I thought I might try a bit of Audrey Hepburn in the Autumn and style with a black polo neck and ballet pumps. That won't cost me a penny as I've got all the bits already. Go me!!

CoconutAmericano · 25/08/2014 10:34

How are we all dong? Still abstaining?! green. Have you worn your boots? Has your dh noticed they're new ha ha. I have been really good all weekend, not a thing bought. Have to buy dd her school shoes later but that doesnt count Grin.

KiaOraOAotearoa · 25/08/2014 11:23

Not a penny spent on clothes. Or jewellery. Or make-up. Every time I was tempted, took the money out of my purse and put them in my diary. I know. I now have £340 plus a tin full of £2.
I have worn the same 3 me&em dresses this whole month. One thing I will say: they wash pretty well. Just as well.
I am now thinking to do the same till I get to £1000. And then go mental in January sales?

Apatite1 · 25/08/2014 12:50

Well, I'm going shopping with friends today so I might blow it if I see my perfect camel coat or the exact shade of blue handbag I've been searching in vain for. I thought I'd confess here to you all first that I'm heading to the den of sin!

To be fair, I started early so it's been over a month for me already Grin

MrPop · 25/08/2014 13:09

I am on day 3 - hoping to get to end of September though. I have just been pinning things I like at the moment, but ideally (not sure how realistic it is for me right now) I should stop looking at things on the web. Need some displacement activities...

ZaraW · 25/08/2014 16:20

I got to 25 days without spending which is a bit of an achievement. Just bought these boots. They were 50% off and I need them for my trip to Iceland and of course I will be able to use them in winter.

Greengardenpixie · 25/08/2014 16:30

coconut they are too good to wear ha ha!!! I have put them in my wardrobe. I dont want to wear them to work...and i am at work Monday-Wednesday. My dh saw them arrive and didnt really say anything but believe me, i was quick to take of the price!! He did actually ask how much my shoes were and i said er...£50!!! Blush I will rot in hell!!! I do feel a bit guilty really but its done now.
As for buying anything else well i havent bought anything yesterday or today :) and am dont usually when i am working. Not allowed to shop at work you see [ work policy]
Glad to hear you are doing well yourself [ well apart from your boots!]

Laska42 · 25/08/2014 17:55

ok its nearly the end of August 25th (ok still some sinning time) but...who wants to carry on in September?

Even if we have bought somethings im pretty sure we have all help-ed each other.

here is my tally since we started .. Ive not been good , but i reckon with your help ive been a lot bette rthan i would have been in the sales..
(and i wont be buying anything more now as broke until payday!)

Bought end July (after startingthis post but before the 'official' start)
I pair Monsoon linen trousers inthe sale (to replace another pair).. they have hardly been off since i got them

1 linen JL dress ( that was the week before we first started .. I had 3 but sent two back, even though I liked them all.. wouldnt have done that usually )

Bought in August 2 linen tops and 1 yellow cardi in the Monsoon sale
1 scarf
1 pair Top shop shorts (taken back and then rebought again the next day Blush at a quarter of the original sale price (and have i worn them ? NO!! Blush [blush ] )
1 dress from charity shop for sewing practice.
1 yellow top in charity shop.(also for sewing practice)

sent back (stuff i had unworn still with tags on or ordered from before the start of the challenge) 1 linen tunic from White Company orderd before challenge but didnt come until last week
I yellow cardi too big, I black pair of linen trousers ( both bought before challenge and not worn) ..

I ebayed 5 dresses/ tunics and a bag.

I think thats it.. so actually im quite pleased now ive totted it up ....for me that was a big result..

so i'm up for September .. who else?

Am happy for people to set themselves budgets instead if they still want to to be accountable .. I know we are not finished Aug yet , but think we did pretty well all told (well those who didnt buy£275 sorry, £50 boots anyway Wink)

ha ha...yeh..im up for September. Being on this thread does make me aware of my spending!! Believe it or not, i feel i have cut down a little :)

Greengardenpixie · 25/08/2014 18:08

Oh i am impressed with you Laska..you have done superbly!!!

HalleLouja · 25/08/2014 18:17

So today I bought some jeans. I need new jeans as old ones are too baggy thanks to weight loss and we were in an outlet and didn't buy anything else. They were also a total bargain as we're less than £50 for two pairs of Lewis.

HalleLouja · 25/08/2014 18:17

Levis

MrsEboJones76 · 25/08/2014 19:04

I'm up for carrying on! Unlikely I'll stop shopping completely but this thread does make me more aware!

Laska42 · 25/08/2014 19:48

oh and I threw away all my catalogues and unsubscribed from clothes sites .. [smug] BUT I did spend more money on other things .. ebooks,Wine theatre tickets, a plane ticket , the boiler.. Sad.. I do need to think about cutting down in other areas as well. ..

Flipflops7 · 25/08/2014 19:50

Still only bought the one £10 hoodie all month; I'm really pleased. Will carry on in September barring essentials. It definitely focuses you on overspending.

cloutiedumpling · 25/08/2014 21:25

I've cracked and bought a skirt from Laura Ashley - they have a discount on everything this weekend. In my defence, I know I'll wear it loads with tights and boots throughout the winter.

masterprocrastinator · 25/08/2014 21:25

Yes this thread has so helped me, despite my latest charity shop spree of river island black boots, dickens and jones top and grungy t- shirt. Sad I doubt I will manage to stop completely, but remaining accountable has helped me to see what I am doing.

Off to buy school shoes tomorrow, dangerous 'treat myself too' territory.
