Hi all.. , several of us on S&B have been posting about our clothese spending ( we know thatis what S&B is about [smile}.

We have wardrobes and chest of drawers utterlyand totally rammed...

We have piles of clothese we've even forgotten we have,(some with the lables still on )

We obsessively peruse S&B looking at recommendations (and then buy them, just because there are there)

We have no willpower,(yet Wink)

We are a friend to every online shop and discount offer going..(not to mention credit card companies)

We just cannot resist sales..

Our postmen and women and the local couriers are getting to know us better than our friends and neighbours..

BUT we want toget back into control and just enjoy what we have to wear.

To this end We the Undersigned PLEDGE to a NO spend August on clothes bags, accessories and shoes (and also make up and beauty products if that is your weakness)

The ONLY exceptions will be tights, basic underwear (knickers and bras) and to replace something that has Genuinley worn out..

It will be hard .. It will be tough.. We will have to be accountable to each other ..BUT WE CAN DO IT!

So Who's in? Smile

Sign up below .. (and try and resist spending for the rest of July.. this is NOT atime to stock up before too late!!)..

those who sign up wil be prepared check in here regularily

(A tyrant ain't I? Grin

Bit late to the party but can I join in? I am useless - every month I ptomise I won't buy...and every month I cave. Am currently awaiting 2 boden parcels - ordered for no reason other than boredom/wanting to perk myself up.

As well as not buying for myself I need to stop buying stuff for the kids that will hardly get worn...
Also must ebay some stuff and have a big clear out

Laska42 · 18/08/2014 22:27

daimbardiva Welcome! you are not too late..i'm thinking i want to continue into September and ill be doing another thread .. ..TBH ive not been totally good , but its helped me so far, and I'm certainly thinking about my buying more.. (even if I have failed a bit)..

I want to be able to only buy what I really need .(rather than just what I want because I see it and its nice) and its just too easy to spend on the net without thinking too much.. I think thats why we are all here..

So yes do come join us! Even if you dont make it totally ..its good that we are all helping each other to be more aware..

Laska September/October i think is ok for winter things. People are generally looking for things around about now! I wouldn't sell anything for 99p tbh. I would price them at the least you want for them...unless of course you dont mind getting £1.00 for something..which would totally piss me off personally, not just because its a pittance but because i would have to go to the time and trouble to post it for that amount!! I agree, summer is kind of over so save the maxi dresses for next year otherwise you wont get much.
As for me on the shopping front well..mmm....not doing that great! Ordered a pair of trousers and a top from house of fraser! [in the sale...a bit of a bargain Blush ]

Karbea · 19/08/2014 11:13

Hello all,

So still going strong here, today I'm wearing a pair of primarni leggings that I got oooo over a year ago maybe, still had the labels on :/ and a Michael kors t shirt that really is more night than day... Soon I'll be back in my work uniform tho!

daimbardiva · 19/08/2014 11:48

Great, glad to have some support!! I have just been clearing out and have found a pair of shoes I have no recollection of even buying!! I have however rediscovered a fake fur gilet I bought 2 years ago and never wore. I'm wearing it now and it's lovely and cosy and I can see mysrlf using it a lot this winter.
Quite disgusted w myself over the shoes tbh.

Laska42 · 19/08/2014 12:19

Thanks for ebay advice..
l wait a bit I think, though maybe I have some transitional things . (im quite into clearing out wardrobe now).

A couple of days ago some clothes arrived from White Company that i'd ordered weeks ago! ( before we started this .. wasnt in stock then but i'd clicked 'buy' and forgot about them FFS! Blush.. See what i'm like? ) .

Anyway, I'm not keeping them , but was a bit annoyed that I'd missed the fact that on WC returns are not free Hmm (they wont be getting any more of my business then)..

Anyway , I rang them .. (quite posh Italian opera holding music Smile and quite posh staff it seems from the voice on end of phone) .. Anyway, having put on my best 'terribly disappointed Home Counties' voice , they were terribly apologetic that I hadnt read their small print and they are sending me a returns lable.. So thats another clothes purchase avoided . ..

Hello, am also joining late. Have been shopping this month but planning to stop from tomorrow until end of September. If I manage it will be unprecedented which is a bit sad and scary! Am hoping to massively reduce my shopping over the next year but I like the idea of starting with a small goal and seeing how it goes. Usually telling myself I will stop shopping prompts me to buy loads before the start and also to fall off the wagon spectacularly at some point.

My particular weak point is the internet: reading blogs and S&B, plus pinterest usually means I find something I never knew I wanted. Am also easily enticed by the bargain. That coupled with how easy it is to buy online (doesn't feel like real money) causes a lot of my difficulties.

I have made some positive steps over the last year such as unsubscribing from online retailer websites - if I don't see it, I don't want it! Also I try to be more discerning about not keeping things, though I do like a lot of what I buy so have a really bulging wardrobe. I could probably not buy anything for at least 2 years and not want for clothes.

It was mentioned by someone else but I also try to buy stuff I will wear now. I've stopped buying for a fantasy lifestyle.

Ideally I should go cold turkey on the internet but I can't imagine managing that yet.

Phew, feels good to get that off my chest Grin

Been watching this thread as it's definitely something I have a problem with. There's a programme on BBC1 tonight at 8pm with Jasmine Harman on compulsive shoppers - maybe worth a look for motivation?

CoconutAmericano · 21/08/2014 17:10

Thanks cirrus. I will record that. I bought some boots yesterday. I couldn't wait two measly weeks until September arrived Blush
I have it bad Sad

Greengardenpixie · 21/08/2014 17:13

Are you back from your holidays coconut? which boots did you buy? Im not faring that well. I bought some boots too :(

CoconutAmericano · 21/08/2014 17:17

I think it's the change in the weather green? I lived in my saltwaters all summer. As soon as it got cooler i was out like a bullet to buy boots Blush. Like i have no self control??

I am home. I bought a few bits for my dd's, some muscat for dh and a leather bag for me. I don't mind the holiday spending tbh. It's the back-at-home-and-bored spending Blush Sad

CoconutAmericano · 21/08/2014 17:17

I bought a pair of black leather vagabond boots green. They were not cheap Blush

CoconutAmericano · 21/08/2014 17:18

What boots did you buy?!

Greengardenpixie · 21/08/2014 17:31

Oh well i bought a pair of Toast boots and they were really really extra utterly expensive! Blush I would never normally buy anything SO expensive but....i missed out on them last year and they will literally last for years because they are a very good make. They are beautiful lace up ankle boots. I think what it is when i had my older children i went to visit my aunt in London and she always had lovely things i could never afford. I remember seeing her with a pair of gorgeous ankle lace up boots..i thought they were to die for. She told me they were incredibly expensive..out of an expensive shoe shop..the name escapes me. I have always had a hankering and when i saw these..i thought they are mine!! Of course i cant really afford them but i want to get them before they go so have just put them on my card and will pay off.
Ive never heard of vagabond. I usually wear fly boots and bought a pair of harley davidson biker boots that i just adore. The fly boots are lovely but i have had them year after year.

CoconutAmericano · 21/08/2014 17:40

I used to love fly boots but they kept letting water in so i fell out of love with them! I do love a nice comfy leather boot tho! Well i hope you get years of pleasure out of your new lace ups! I totally get it. I could never afford nice things growing up. We were as poor as they come. So now i enjoy good quality items. Leather, cashmere etc. but I've gone too far now. Far too far. I suppose it's keeping in control is the challenge.

CoconutAmericano · 21/08/2014 17:42

They're not the olivia boots per chance are they green?

Greengardenpixie · 21/08/2014 17:58

er yes...Blush How bloody expensive are they???? Its outrageous!!! I will never tell my dh!! He would be shocked. Its topped anything i have ever paid for an item except a coat that i bought years ago.

I agree with fly london boots letting in water. Mine all have. However i got a recent pair and they were not the same. They kept my feet super dry so i think they have resolved the problem now. They were fly london sminx. I think they must have had loads of complaints. They did on amazon. Sadly the zip burst on them which has never happened to me before.

Greengardenpixie · 21/08/2014 17:59

My boots come tomorrow :) I just couldnt wait ha ha..got express delivery! :) Im super excited but if they are crap when i get them or do not live up to the price, they are going straight back at that price!!

CoconutAmericano · 21/08/2014 18:00

They are stunning stunning boots. You have great taste. You will cherish them. I didn't tell my dh about my boots either Sad

CoconutAmericano · 21/08/2014 18:01

Ooh let me know how they feel on. I hope they're like slippers. They'd want to be lol

Greengardenpixie · 21/08/2014 18:04

I will let you know..yeh they better feel like slippers ha ha....

ZaraW · 21/08/2014 18:26

So far not bought anything, I've felt like buying stuff but I've made myself busy and the urge to shop has gone. I need to buy winter boots for my trip to Iceland for next year in September as they are in the sale. But finally I think I am getting to be in control of my spending. Hope it lasts.

The money I save from shopping will pay for my trip. Looking at experiences rather than things.

CoconutAmericano · 21/08/2014 18:28

You're so right zara. I started looking online for pt jobs today. Sick of being bored. I need more. Not stuff. More experiences.

ZaraW · 21/08/2014 18:39

Boredom is my trigger so I've decided that instead of looking at shopping sites I am going to be spending my time more constructively. Now looking at the free learning sessions on the OU on subjects that interest me.

I have so many clothes I really don't need to buy anything really for a long time.

Laska42 · 21/08/2014 19:52

greengarden! ... ok they are nice.. last year i got Dh to buy me some lovely h 'victorian style broge boots with a small heel from Jones , and also some blue nubuck brogues from JL (neither worn much) they will have to be worn this year.. .

I havent bought anything for at least 3 days!! (scarf monday) ..

but I have my eye on a couple of things.. (national sugar boots in grey on ebay, and a celt and co cardigan.. ) Um....

However the boiler packed up and that was over £200.. Sad
