Hi all.. , several of us on S&B have been posting about our clothese spending ( we know thatis what S&B is about [smile}.

We have wardrobes and chest of drawers utterlyand totally rammed...

We have piles of clothese we've even forgotten we have,(some with the lables still on )

We obsessively peruse S&B looking at recommendations (and then buy them, just because there are there)

We have no willpower,(yet Wink)

We are a friend to every online shop and discount offer going..(not to mention credit card companies)

We just cannot resist sales..

Our postmen and women and the local couriers are getting to know us better than our friends and neighbours..

BUT we want toget back into control and just enjoy what we have to wear.

To this end We the Undersigned PLEDGE to a NO spend August on clothes bags, accessories and shoes (and also make up and beauty products if that is your weakness)

The ONLY exceptions will be tights, basic underwear (knickers and bras) and to replace something that has Genuinley worn out..

It will be hard .. It will be tough.. We will have to be accountable to each other ..BUT WE CAN DO IT!

So Who's in? Smile

Sign up below .. (and try and resist spending for the rest of July.. this is NOT atime to stock up before too late!!)..

those who sign up wil be prepared check in here regularily

(A tyrant ain't I? Grin

I find it kind of depressing and I'm including myself in this that we keeping on buying stuff...........

LightastheBreeze · 15/08/2014 16:02

i find it depressing also, it's really got much worse with internet shopping, as before it was quite restricted and I didn't have access to all the brands I do now. My mind constantly wanders to what new clothes I want, whereas in the old days I would maybe see one thing on a Saturday i wanted, now it is all the time, all hours and so easy to buy and get obsessed with it all.

masterprocrastinator · 15/08/2014 19:24

Yes, I agree it is depressing, insidious and all consuming. Even when I am not actively buying I am window shopping online under a consumerist maximalist clothing spell.

WillPenn · 15/08/2014 20:37

So I did buy the trousers - only £18 spent though. But you guys are right - the constant looking is depressing. I have removed all the links to clothes websites on my computer a couple of days ago by wiping the history and I found that to be very helpful at not looking at stuff.

I am now going to hold out until the end of August and into September. Because I really DO NOT NEED ANYTHING ELSE

Karbea · 15/08/2014 20:46

Hello all,
I'm still going strong, haven't even been tempted. :)

KiaOraOAotearoa · 15/08/2014 21:25

Same here :)
Not an iota bought.

ZaraW · 16/08/2014 09:09

One thing that really annoys me is that if you browse items online and then go onto another website they track what you have been looking at and those items show up on the new web page tempting you to buy these items.............

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Today I went out with DD and bought a Uniqlo jacket Grin
Rational: DD bought one last year, it's warm and snuggly, folds up into a tiny bag.
Can't steal hers, she's a teeny size 6 , I'm a 14 top half.
When I looked online, they were sold out. I looked on eBay, prices were same as Uniqlo.

So, I bought it. It's up in my wardrobe now, tucked away for when I need it.

I think December might be my Don't Buy Anything month. The shops will be manic.

(And I got coconut oil for my hair but that's ok, isn't it? ) Wink

Karbea · 17/08/2014 08:46

I'm really interested to see just how long I can go without buying clothes, I've loads, and I only buy things because I'm bored of what I've got, or I feel people have seen me in it loads.

Ive found it relatively easy to date, but I've mostly been working so wearing the work uniform.

macandcheesewithbaconbits · 17/08/2014 20:41

I sent the Brora gilet back. Sad. Couldn't justify it.

HalleLouja · 18/08/2014 08:49

Still going here. Bought some sexy undies but they hardly count as clothes more something to spice up the bedroom

PeachandBlack · 18/08/2014 09:23

No spending here. I've done a bit of browsing for autumn bits and pinned them on Pinterest but I won't buy just yet. I am going to try and keep going until September payday, by then I should be ready to start wearing jumpers etc.

One thing I have been doing in recent months is not buying ahead and only buying stuff that I know will get worn within a month. I figure that if I haven't worn a new item within that time, then I'm probably not that keen on it or it's not really suitable. It also means I can take it back and still be within the returns period.

Pollywallywinkles · 18/08/2014 09:34

I've not bought anything else despite going into my favourite boutique at the weekend to pick up a little something for a leaving gift.

Not spent anything here. Have unsubscribed from email offers which helps!

CoconutAmericano · 18/08/2014 17:51

Eh, ahem, so i bought a leather bag in Spain and boyfriend jeans when i got home. Presents for the family don't count in my head anyway

In fairness my bank balance is still in the black which is a miracle for me. i have really cut back on my shopping this month. I hope to carry this into September actually. I honestly feel better in myself for abstaining as much as i have (ok not totally, but for me, I've been really good!). Like I'm not carrying round a guilty secret..

Laska42 · 18/08/2014 18:54

Hi there . I bought a scarf today.. tkmax (what was i doing in there?.. looking for some trainers for my son , which i didnt find!! ) Is the perfect black and grey scarf ive been looking for for all these years.and . I feel ok about that.

Will ebay some of my other (admittedly vast) collection of scarves ..BUT I didnt buy the lovely green cashmere cardigan I also saw there which Icertainly would have usually ..(yay, and I wont be going back tomorrow either)

Today am wearing Monsoon cream linen roll up trousers and a Boden turquoise and cream top iI have had for at least 2 years now along with a Monsoon turquoise cardi (at least 4 years old).(along with the good old navy flats)

Over the weekend I sold a Boden dress and a Fossil handbag on ebay .. (sadly the bag for much less than i'd hoped). Am going to look out some Autumn-y things to sell next

Bad thing though.. I'm 'watching' a pair of grey boots due to come up in 2 days.. (I dont have any grey boots.. ) ..

Ok 18th August ive not been totally good , but so much better . Im definately going to carry on for September..

I'm still being good, but I'm getting ankle boots in September!!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/08/2014 20:44

I will do my non-clothes buying in December I reckon.
All the A/W is appearing now and I don't want to miss them.
I have no interest in buying S/S in December though (let alone the hassel of trying things on)

Laska42 · 18/08/2014 20:57

When shall I start ebaying my autumn/ winter things do you think? .. (my last two summer maxi dresses that finished this weekend didnt sell.. so probably too late for any more like that this year ..)

I have already identified a couple of Boden coloured demin skirts that can go, a nice Warehouse kilt (new and not worn) and also a couple of Boden tunics ..maybe a Monsoon woollen dress and a Laura Ashley navy mac (though i'm thining that may be more spring like)

I also have a lovely pair of Dune knee length boots that I will ebay, black leather riding boot type, they are virtually unworn , because the zip goes up the back and the couple of times I have worn them sadly cuts into the back of my heel..

When do you think i should ebay them? Wait say until october ?

How about my Celt and Co shearling gilet?

I also have a georgeous pair of purple leather gloves unworn from Libertys with lables and box (a' present and too small ) They'd make a fab christmas present..

What kind of price should I start the boots, gilet and gloves on do you think? (im going to put this question on the ebay thread also , but maybe you fashionistas will have an idea orf what you'd expect to pay..)

cloutiedumpling · 18/08/2014 21:03

I've still not bought anything, but that may be because I'm still waiting for the zatchels bags that I ordered five weeks ago!

This thread has been good though because it has made me think about how I buy clothes. I'm going to try to use up more of what I have, rather than buy new just because it'd be nice to have something new and different

HalleLouja · 18/08/2014 21:37

Laska I often start at 99p depends if I think it will get lots of interest. For shoes I was starting higher and including postage.

masterprocrastinator · 18/08/2014 21:47

Hmm. Bought sea salt cotton jacket and odd Molly shirt in charity shop. Not good. But at least I am still resisting online shopping.
More than halfway now Wink.
